Your own figures show that someone in Sctland on a low salary (about £20K, for example) will pay £23 less than an rUK taxpayer. That's £23 in hard cash, not smoke and mirrors.

If the SNP were lying about making tax cuts for the less well off, I'm sure you would point it out

.The SNP aren't in power at Westminster, of course, and the branch office don't contest seats in rUK, so I'm not sure how they can 'definitely' take over Westminster.

At Holyrood, Scottish Labour might scrape together enough seats to go into coalition with their Tory & Lib Dem chums. Tax cuts for the rich. Hurrah!

45p per week isn't exactly 'hard cash' , you can't even buy a can of Irn Bru for it.    They made a huge point of tax cuts which didn't really justify the paltry saving.

This seems an opportune moment to remind everyone that 51% (a majority) of Scottish taxpayers pay less income tax than they would if they earned the same income anywhere else in the UK.

I suspect that @HulltoonDee may fall into this 51%. If Labour get into government in Holyrood, what will they do with regards to income tax? Do they plan to "simplify" the Scottish tax rates and bring them into line with rUK? That will mean a tax increase for 51% of low-paid Scottish taxpayers, to fund a tax cut for 49% of better paid Scottish taxpayers, including those on 6 figure salaries.

Does @HulltoonDee support this potential tax increase on the low paid?

The low paid argument is a smoke and mirror policy.  45p a week, or no saving at all, so that the SNP can trumpet that they're making tax cuts for the less well off.

I just love how these other parties blame the Scottish Government (SNP) for it...

The crazy think is the shops reap the benefits of the so-called tax....

    Get it tae f***

That's the SNP's fault entirely.    They could have taken the extra back into the public purse and use it for education etc.   In typical fashion they rushed it through to get headlines without thinking it through properly.

It's a bit rich coming from here, then again she thinks rats are just more visible too.  It makes a mockery of the whole "refugees welcome" messages considering they were happy to accommodate Ukrainians on a cruise ship.   Wrong sort of refugees maybe, or just political point scoring with the Conservatives?

“Poor people continue to have large families”

why not make them less poor or have fewer poor people?

I suspect this is a trolling expedition and you don’t believe the evil shit you’re spouting, which would be bad but not irredeemable.

If you do believe the shite you’re spouting then you are an irredeemable C[redacted due to rules on personal abuse]

They could be less poor by not overstretching themselves by having families and lifestyles which their incomes can't support.   Just a thought?    Or do you just want to make people less poor by handing out free money from the magic tree?

What is it with these right wingers? if a child is hungry first and foremost you feed them, you don't squeal about their background.

Maybe the 2 cap limit is a sensible way to get all of the never do wells to keep their pants up and their legs shut?  Child Poverty rates in Scotland primarily down to the fact that poor people continue to have large families.    The mentality of these people needs to change and when it does the problem of child poverty will significantly reduce.

Take a wander around any town centre and you will see people who clearly don't have a lot pushing prams around.

Probably leasing it/renting it or whatever the f**k they do for about £500 a month, amazes me where people get the money from for this carry on.

On the face of it, it seems a sensible compromise. From a purely pragmatic viewpoint, it would be ridiculous to have separate schemes in different parts of the UK, requiring different barcodes for the same items.

It seems odd that glass is excluded, though.

    Most glass is already recycled.

I just cant get past how bad Yousaf is at speaking, he is atrocious. Its painful to watch and the thought we will quite likely have to listen to it over the next year or so at least is depressing as f**k. The content isnt that bad at times and may be the best of the 3 but the delivery is so bad. Surely he can invest in some lessons in how to present, slow down a bit would help. Focus on key points. Its a rambling mess at the moment. He will have to improve as FM.

He'll have been coached for years: imagine what he was like before?

Nicola Sturgeons legacy will be the convincing wins she led in General Elections and Scottish parliament elections, consider that there is only one Labour and six tory MP's in Scotland against 44 SNP MP's.

And then Holyrood dominated by 64 SNP MSP's, with the tories and labour MSP's mostly list.

In fact if the Scottish elections were 'first past the post' as in Westminster the SNP would be virtually unopposed with hardly any london based tory and labour gadgies in the Scottish Parliament.

So the naysayers, petty critics, woman haters and daft journos can throw all the shite they want but at the end of day Nicola Sturgeon delivered elections that gave the Scottish People a voice but especially a political identity.

A great legacy for us to continue.

She was great at winning elections but shite when it came to actually running a country.

Who in Scotland owns alcohol branded t-shirts, jackets and baseball caps? I know literally nobody in Scotland that does. The only people I see wearing these things are celebrities and sports personalities who are paid to sponsor the company or product. I don't see anybody walking around outside with their Strongbow cap. Do you?

I think it's more about glasses etc.    For example, if you're in a bar or restaurant a glass will generally have the brand logo on it and they believe that the wee poor weans will have their minds warped.    That's my take on it anyway.

  12. 2 hours ago, StellarHibee said:

I'm well aware that there's a consultation on the subject of limiting alcohol marketing. But there's absolutely nothing contained within the details of this consultation that suggests removing logo's from pint glasses, umbrellas and t-shirts as the sun falsely states.

It'll likely be a limitation on sponsorship's and advertising boards which I personally think is a good thing. There would be a public outrage if a football club were to sponsor a tobacco company, so why should alcohol be treated any differently?

9.6 One way we could seek to reduce the visibility of alcohol brands would be to prohibit the sale or distribution of alcohol-branded merchandise including T-shirts, jackets and baseball caps as well as branded glasses and mugs. These increase brand visbility and have more permanence than alcohol adverts on TV or on billboards. They are often re-used over time within our homes or, in the case of clothing, can become walking billboards in themselves.

Quite disappointing to see the SNPs energy strategy looking to stop new oil fields. Whilst I am on board with moving to a greener society, this wont happen overnight and oil & gas is going to a key part of the UKs energy strategy for the next 25 years at least. So why is she so keen to wipe the industry out as soon as possible? All that will end up happening is we will need to import product from abroad. Why not extract every possible amount to help fund the transition to greener sources.

Sadly that's what happens when you have nutters like Patrick Harvie propping up your majority.

    Another 1% increase. hey ho.

But they should move the thresholds to nice, round numbers. I mean: Intermediate rate £25,689 to £43,622. Why not £26,000 to £43500, say. Make life easier for the accountants.

I% is still 1% that won't make it's way into an already shattered economy.    Is it fair that someone in Scotland earning £25k is paying 2% more than the rest of the UK?  They're not exactly high earners FFS.

I’m not in the SNP. Glad to see another Little Briton whose fetish for the UK can only be expressed as a hatred for Scotland, though. You do realise that the UK Government holds even bootlicking Scotch like yourself in contempt, don’t you? The more loyalist North Britons are, the more they consider you useful idiots.

I don't hate Scotland, I just hate the SNP.
