From Gerrard's press conference earlier, it sounds like he's expecting Hibs to go 4-4-2.

Yeah I think that's likely. With the personnel we have it's pretty easy to switch it to a 3-5-2 if need be. It will be interesting to see how Rangers back line cope with 2 decent strikers, I imagine it's the first time this season they've had to do that.

  2. Rangers have been very impressive so far, it would be a huge bonus to get anything from this. Kent scares the life out of me but Paul McGinn has been arguably our best player this season.

    I'd go:

    Marciano
    McGinn Porteous Hanlon Doig
    Boyle Gogic Newell Wright
    Nisbet Doidge

Not a huge fan of Wright based on what I've seen so far but none of the back up centre mids have done enough this season to warrant a start. It gives us some continuity with only Murphy having to drop out from the team last week.

The best thing about the group of players we have is that it really allows us to be fluid tactically. The two wingers are comfortable defending if we get penned in but you could easily still say that there's 5 predominantly attack minded players in that team. Should be interesting. 2-1 Rangers.

  3. Can't see anything other than a comfortable home win. The aim needs to be see out the first 30 minutes as their fans will immediately get on their backs.

    I'd go:

                             Marciano
    McGinn Jackson Hanlon Stevenson
                             Whittaker
             Omeonga             Newell
                                  Allan
                         Boyle      Doidge

We have exactly the same defence we had 5 years ago in the Championship.

    Gray, McGregor, Hanlon, Stevenson.

Doig will hopefully slowly replace Stevenson. McGinn will replace Gray. Jackson is actually pretty good but I think Porteous will play when he's fit. Hanlon still has a part to play but I wouldn't be against replacing him.

He's not really though, is he? He's literally had 3 or 4 good post-injury games.

He's been consistently good for 2 or 3 seasons now. He's one of the quickest players in the league and is a full internationalist. I think outside of Porteous and Kamberi, he'd command a higher transfer fee than anyone else in the squad.

  6. Surprised no Hibs fans have said Martin Boyle, an extremely underwhelming signing at the time. Has improved year on year and is probably one of our most prized assets now.

Stokes signing for the third time was a massive disaster. I thought he'd kick on after the Cup final but he was pretty poor and his behaviour was very poor before being punted.

Too much dead wood at Hibs from Hecky's signings.  I only rate Hallberg from his signings, the rest are average to poor.

And there was no way he was someone Heckingbottom had much knowledge of, think he was someone identified via the recruitment team.

It is incredibly infuriating to think of the wages being wasted on Josh Vela and to a lesser extent Jackson and James (who I do like but seems he is no longer in the picture at Hibs).

  8. GK - Graeme Smith

    CB - Sean O’Hanlon

    CB - David Stephens

    CB - Daniel Boateng

    RM - Danny Haynes

    CM - Matt Thornhill

    CM - Owain Tudor Jones

    CM - Edwin are Graaf

    LM - Roy O’Donovan

    ST - Rowan Vine

    ST - Shefki Kuqi

    ST - Darryl Duffy

All from the first half of the decade. Don’t get me wrong, we had some amount of guff in the second half too but those first 5 years were horrendous. What a team.

It was dreadful. I'd like to go all Sellik nutjob and make some sort of lame excuse regarding our player and 'momentum' or 'anticipated contact'  but I can't. Awful.

Having said all that and much as I love him, Marv was a fortunate boy. The elbow in the first half and the "tackle" on Horgan which might have been ok in 1972 were howlers.

He also blocked James' goalbound shot with his arm. Then went in late on Allan just after the first goal. He could have been booked about four times last night. Still a top boy though.
