  1. From that list I’d like Wright, but I don’t think it’ll happen for a few reasons. Other than that I’d be interested in seeing what Dailly would have to offer - he always came across well, but it would be a hell of a gamble. Other than that... ooofff. I could see us stepping off the usual Scottish managerial merry go round for this one, and if that list of managers is anything to go by then I kind of hope we do.

  2. Hearts obviously looking to spend some of their impending £10million windfall on compensation.

I wonder how their chief cheerleader Tom English will react to the news that they’re going to spend presumably several tens of thousands on compensation after asking their staff to take pay cuts a few weeks back?

    “Is it FAIR?“

If a 2m distance still has to be maintained you're looking at about only 1 in 6 seats (at best) getting used, so l'd say not much over 2,000.

How does it work for those within your household? Presumably if you had 2,3,4 or however many people in the same household all with season tickets they could sit together? The club should have their addresses on file so they could check this quite easily.

  4. Ashgar discussed this on the radio a couple of weeks ago. He confirmed that St Andrews was out of action at the moment. Youth teams were going to use Gussie. I actually can’t remember what he said about the 1st team, but he didn’t seem overly concerned about it. Don’t think it’s a huge issue - there are clearly plans in place.

Bollocks. Lazy writing scuppered Only An Excuse.

Scottish football is bonkers, 2012 OAE, for example, could have been the greatest tele program ever made. Instead he shat it and played it safe with Denis Law and Frank MacAvenie for the 15th year in a row.

    I very nearly did say:

”That's what really scuppered Only an Excuse. Well that and shite writing.”

  6. Och, I think it’s alright. It’s not exactly a challenging listen - just aural wallpaper in the background, that has a few genuinely funny moments most weeks. I can understand why people criticise it for failing to move with the times - it’s hardly cutting edge. Some people have also said they keep banging on about players and stories from the dim & distant past, but there are less “characters” in football generally these days and very few players hang around Scottish football long enough to make any kind of impact on the public consciousness or even to be be fondly remembered 6 months after they’re gone. That’s what really scuppered Only an Excuse.

As for the alternatives, I’ve seen a lot of folk talking up The Terrace and it’s presenters. I’ve never listened to the podcast, but the TV show was hardly essential viewing for me. It was fine, but the presenters weren’t exactly brimming with charisma, and there seemed to be a bit of a hipster vibe, competing to see who could talk about the most obscure players or teams. And I can’t abide Si Ferry and especially his pal “Slaney” barking “bantz” at each other. You should know you’re in trouble when Kevin Kyle is the brains of the operation.

So new year before juniors / west /east / north non league teams get back playing football. Think most of us will have forgot what our grounds and fellow fans look like by the time we get back!

Have I missed something? Genuine question - Has there been an announcement in relation to this?

    When will people get it?
The Regions and the SJFA are not one and the same.

Nothing to do with the regions - I was just pointing out that it would be a little difficult to reconcile their desire to null & void one competition (which they couldn’t win) with a willingness to play on in another one where they might fancy their chances.

Be same for all clubs , just have to go with who they sign for the season coming up whenever that is , broughty seemed very confident but I don’t think we will Lose sleep if we have to go up there

But, if you're not taking up SJFA membership for next season, surely Broughty will get awarded the tie?

As I understand it (and it’s only hearsay) Broughty voted for the East Region season to be declared null & void. Surely that means their involvement in the Scottish is done & dusted?

Yes, but the West Region doesn't have to go through a championship play-off.

I’m sure both clubs would have happily accommodated a one off fixture into their pre season fixtures. In fact they’d probably quite happily have agreed to a toss of the coin to decide who goes into the Scottish as the overall East Region champ if it meant they were recognised as South or North champs. Who goes into the Scottish now as ER representatives?

  11. 2 hours ago, Marten said:

Why? It's still based on results on the pitch. PPG isn't ideal, but by that measure Talbot were well ahead of anyone else. The PPG system has also been used in plenty of other leagues, or talks are ongoing about using it.

At this rate someone is going to claim the virus was developed in Auchinleck just to let Talbot win the league, but they decided to start spreading it in Wuhan to not make it look too obvious...

Didn’t you say in the East Region thread there was “no other option” other than null & voiding the entire competition?

  12. 1 hour ago, Marten said:

No surprise there, no other options really. As the leagues will be restructured again it doesn't really matter for next season anyway.

No other options? What about doing what every other league in Scottish football has done?

  13. Tayport are struggling in a “super” league that is a shadow of its former self following the defection of all the top clubs south of Dundee. Their form has picked up a bit in the last few weeks, but anything other than a comfortable win for Talbot would be a big surprise.

Interestingly, most of the management team at Tayport were at Carnoustie when they played (and lost to) Talbot twice in recent years.

NCR amateurs were the last team regularly using the park.
Pretty sure it has still never been built on.

Was the plan not to use it to extend the cemetery? That was the best surface in Dundee when the Cash has it, crying shame they got kicked off it.

He barely touched the ball. Surely you have to test him? At 47, his reflexes and movement etc can't be the same regardless if he has 20 years experience or not.

Absolutely, but it’s that much harder to test his reflexes when his communication, organisation, command of his area, decision making and distribution are top class.

    North End 0 - 3 Broughty Ath

A bit surprised at how easy this game was won. Was expecting more from North End. Broughty had a 47 year old keeper in goal and if truth be told, he had absolutely nothing to do.

Anyway, good win for Broughty. 2 semi finals this coming week.

Brilliant score for you boys on Sat mate, didn't see that coming at all.

Good result, but a lot of people did see it coming - it was fairly common knowledge locally that Kirrie had about 8 players as late as Saturday morning.

Much as the Lowland League will change to be more central belt based through promotion and relegation. The Highland League would become more Aberdeenshire/Tayside dominated.

Not so sure about this. Looking at the winners / runners up of the HL for the past 10 years you’ve got Buckie, Forres, Clach, Brora, Formartine, Deveronvale etc, none of which are easily accessible from Dundee and even a decent distance from Aberdeen, again over terrible roads. Only really Cove or Inverurie are within a 4hr round trip from Dundee.

Several highland league sides have massive budgets for that level, that dwarf anything in Tayside and all but one or two junior clubs across the entire country. Lochee United could probably be reasonably competitive, the next couple of clubs could maybe hold their own in the middle/lower reaches of the table. Similarly, only 1 or 2 Aberdeen based junior clubs could compete in the top division of a combined set up. I don’t think the balance of power would centralise there as readily as it will further south.
