  1. Been keeping a keen eye on this trial. I'll be back online later, away to save delete some stuff
  2. Hartley brought both Tapping and McHattie on loan to Alloa, albeit a couple of years ago now, and Tapping at that time was a little too lightweight and always seemed to need a little extra time on the ball to pick a pass and struggled to get to grips with the pace of some games. He did show flashes of creativity at times and struck me as a confidence type of player. If the game is going well for his team and he's had a few good touches, then he'll probably keep doing it for the full game. If not, then he did become a bit of a passenger in the team. McHattie on the other hand was excellent. A problem part of past Alloa teams has been our left-back position and Hartley sorted that out instantly by bringing him in. Stevie May played in the team that same season and its no surprise to anyone at Alloa that both May and McHattie are/were more than holding their own in the Premier League.
  3. Not a surprise to see that list of players being offered deals elsewhere. Expected Bain and probably Cawley and McCord to leave, but really hope Meggatt and Gordon stay.
  4. Danny Carmichael - Alloa Athletic player of the season 2013/14 I see it may now be Bob McHugh that scored it. Oh well...joint players of the year then
  5. That was some darts in those last 2 legs of the last set. Having £35 on Smith (+1.5) at Evs made it better too
  6. I understand your frustration but to put it into a little better perspective for you, I think, Alloa's points total from last season would've won that league 7 times out of the last 10 seasons. Queens were the only full-timers in that league last year and probably had a team which would've competed in this season's Championship with more success than their current set of players. 3 major factors to both team's starts this season. a) Queens lost their manager, Alloa kept theirs. b) Queens lost their goalkeeper, Alloa kept theirs. c) Queens lost their top goalscorer, Alloa kept theirs. I actually think the goalkeeper is the biggest factor of the above 3. If he'd been replaced with someone of the same ilk as the previous one then the current players(especially the defenders) would have more confidence in their play. Results would perhaps be better and with that, the manager's position wouldn't come into question. Not having a go btw, just general observations. I still think QOS will come good this season although I think mid-table is the best either team can realistically hope to achieve. I'd settle for that with Alloa although your own ambitions may perhaps be loftier than ours this season.
  7. I only remember select parts of the '86 World Cup as I was 5 at the time but still a regular (yes even at that time) at the Recs, mainly due to my dad lifting me up on his shoulders to bypass the turnstile...as someone mentioned earlier, 'the good old days when players were allowed to tackle' I was on holiday in France for 2 weeks of that World Cup and was in a creperie when Strachan scored and celebrated his goal with the leg up on the advertising board, and there was a lot of goals in the other game in our group that day. Apart from the amazing crowd at the final and Belgium getting quite far, I don't remember much else about Mexico '86. Will always remember the name Pumpido though but only because he broke his leg early on in Italia '90 and was replaced by Goycochea who went on to become as much a hero for Argentina during that World Cup as Maradona and Caniggia were. He saved them in the 2nd phase versus Brazil a few times and pulled off penalty saves in the shoot-outs against both Yugoslavia and Italy en route to the final. He very nearly saved the Brehme penalty in the final after a Klinsmann dive, surprisingly! Horrible way to lose, especially such an important game, and event! P.S. Maradona is the best player ever in my opinion.
  8. Highlights of the West Ham game are now on the BBC website, looks as if Leeds gave as good as they got. Both teams had decent penalty claims turned down aswell. Would've loved to have been involved in those celebrations for the injury-time equaliser. Decent win in the cup last night against Doncaster, hopefully a good draw in the next round awaits.
  9. Pretty decent game for a friendly i thought, especially with the number of substitutes used by both sides. Leeds actually had 11 different players on the pitch at full-time from the 11 which started the game, albeit a quintuple half-time substitution and a sextuple one after about an hour. Falkirk had the best clear-cut chances in the first half despite Leeds having the bulk of possession and pressure. One hit the bar and ended up on the roof of the net and they also had a close-range effort saved early on,although i think the Falkirk striker perhaps scuffed his shot a little. The deflected free-kick at the end was very close and would perhaps have put a fairer reflection on the scoreline had it gone in,although i still think Leeds deserved their victory. Leeds seemed to be able to use the wings a lot better than Falkirk, especially in the first half, but the final ball was rather poor most of the time. Falkirk had more success when they played through the middle, made some decent passing moves which led to several openings but were never capitalised on(someone shoot!). Snodgrass was Leeds' man of the match, created a lot down the right in the first half and topped it off well with his header for the second goal at the start of the second half. Had this game not been a friendly, then Falkirk would probably have had a man advantage for most of the game, seen a red card for a lot less than that Kisnorbo challenge, even some of the Leeds supporters were wincing when he did that! The number 6 for Falkirk (Murdoch?) played well in the first half i thought, always looking for the ball and was comfortable when on it,even when the midfield got tight. He played a few quick, clever passes and some one-twos to create openings and looked very assured up against a midfield surely better than what he'll face in the league this season. Falkirks numbers 5,8 & 10(i think!) i thought were also solid enough tonight, apologies for not knowing their names. On a personal note, i managed to kill two birds with one stone tonight. Seen my English team play and managed to chalk off a 'new' stadium off the list(although i have been to Brockville a few times). Definitely the best programme i've ever seen for a friendly!
  10. Is it ticket-only tonight or can we pay at the gate?
