The Lowland League is an east and south league. There is no west league at tier 5.  Commonsense dictates there should be two leagues at tier 5 serving the central belt and south to balance the Highland league which serves a much smaller population. It is ridiculous to suggest the central belt and south should only have one tier 5 league.

The population argument is a complete red herring. There will only ever be at most two places to move up from tier 5 to tier 4, and they will go to the best two teams at tier 5. You can have as many tier 5 leagues as you like and all you are doing is increasing the number of playoffs needed to pick the same two teams. The chances are still the same.

Re Penicuik, what does "looks like" mean, because all I've seen are a few posts here quoting each other, and one from an actual Penicuik fan implying they haven't even applied?

We hadnt applied at that point in time! We have done since and anything else posted on here prior to that was pure speculation.

Thanks RRC, now I believe it :)

It looks like Arniston, Craigroyston, Dunbar and Penicuik were all accepted, so now upto 30.  Some talk of two others applying so we could be at 32.

Deadline now been set at 31st May for further applications according to the website.

It was you who mentioned the 70s first, not me. And now you've been caught out you are trying to deflect. I also suggest that you look up the definition of franchise  as you clearly have no idea what it actually is.

Anyway, don't let me stop you from going out and playing the buses.

    SPFL forum for this pish

That's kind of how a pyramid works. More leagues at the bottom, filtering into a smaller number of leagues as you go up

Yes, exactly. But we are arguing over how many tier 6 leagues we need in the east. You think 2, I think 1. To go along side however many other Tier 6 feeders to the LL we have.

One reason might be that the Juniors and EOS might never agree to some of the plans getting banded about. Mixing the current East super, EOS and lowland would be a messy affair, with all parties looking after their own interests.

East Super and EOS becoming tier 6 for the Lowland might be not be be palatable for some who believe their team should be placed higher but you can't expect to just turn up late to the party and take control of the music

EOS already is tier 6 for the Lowland in the east. What I am saying above is that we don’t need two. How you go about getting the best clubs into it is a different matter, and is not solved by having another tier 6 east league.

    Why?

There could be, but would be a bad idea because

     * reduces quality on the field, why split the best sub LL east clubs across two parallel leagues?

    * reduces quality off the field, an all entry-licensed tier 6 is an obvious and progressive next step

    * unnecessarily complicates promotion by adding extra play offs  for issues which would be better settled over a season

    * unnecessarily complicates relegation from LL, who goes where and why?

Are there any reasons which make it a good idea?

Like that will happen. Game is already up in the east, the pyramid is there and you either join it or you dinnae  and upto 10 clubs will next season. No need for the SFA to meddle in that.

Don't get me wrong Hamish, I'm not holding my breath for the SFA, and your second sentence is exactly what will happen. But shortly after that, when the other 50 or 60 want to join (just in the East), then that will need a bit more co-ordination and good will all round.  I think you may be misreading where I'm coming from.

  9. Here is the news.

A meeting was held last night in Bonnryigg. It is over for the junior grade.

However, it is not over for the many excellent people who administer, manage, run, sponsor, support and play the junior game.

It is now crucial for the SFA to take hold of the situation and ensure an orderly transition. While there should be no concession to any "Continuity SJFA" its people (in the broadest sense) should now be involved in making this happen. If that means the SFA oiling a few wheels, fine. For the greater good.

The World Cup winner told my wee brother and myself to "f.... Off" that night. Pretty sure my brother was only 9 at the time. So he can stick his Jules Rimmet medal up his Rimmet!

I was about 10 or 11. I remember running half the length of pitch to get his autograph, sliding to a halt on my arse in the mud, and being shepherded off, unsuccessful. I still have the programme, with a generous helping of Bayview mud on the cover, which on reflection is more special to me than any signature.
