  1. Went to see Rare Exports yesterday, a different, often pretty dark take on the Santa Claus story and reasonably enjoyable but 75 minutes, including the credits? Really short film. 6/10
  2. I realised a minute after posting what you meant and edited. There's actually a big debate about it here
  3. Its something like "well I'm sure it was better than my plan making out I was mad, I mean, who would notice another madman around here?" edit...doh I think it's "Hot Potato, Orchestra Stalls but we'll make amends"
  4. The character who said that was dead just a few seconds later, didn't do him much good. Thaw on the way, +2C in Paisley tomorrow, +7 on Friday.
  5. 4 and a half hours to get from Gourock back to Paisley. Meant to be working in Dunoon again tomorrow, I'll be phoning one of the locals at 7:30am but I suspect the roads will be just as bad as they were today.
  6. Currently in the western ferry from Gourock to Dunoon, plenty of big snowflakes landing on the windscreen.
  7. Another 2 inches fell here overnight and it is currently chucking it down.
  8. Surprised that, I thought Irreversible was a masterclass in directorial technique. I'll go see it at the GFT.
  9. What do you mean missed? Is the view that bad from one end you can't see what happens at the other?
  10. 6-4 from 4-1 up...some collapse.
  11. Starman (1984) - Dir. John Carpenter Voyager sends out its multimedia, multi-language message to the cosmos. Jeff bridges is the alien who replies. His ship is shot at by the USAF and he crash lands in rural USA. He takes on the form of Karen Allen's recently deceased husband and makes her drive him to the big crater in Arizona. The authorities find out where they are going and are in hot pursuit. Carpenter made "The Thing" less that 2 years before and Starman couldn't be more different. Initially a sci-fi movie, it becomes a road movie and ultimately a love story. Bridges is superb as the alien, his twitchy movements, speech patterns and just off-kilter weirdness is thoroughly convincing without resorting to special effects...just great acting. The ending would make even the glassiest eye well up. Ideal for a night in with your loved one 8/10
  12. I disagree. Tattichef is an anachronism, an entertainer from a bygone era who, like many others, is now having to compete with the advent of rock and roll. His chance encounter with the Scotsman, his gig in Iona and the attachment the girl has for him, genuinely believing he can produce magic and her subsequently leaving him when she finds love leaves the Illusionist disillusioned and he returns to his homeland. It is a beautifully animated film with superb incidental music, composed by Chomet. You're right in that it isn't for everyone.
  13. Saw The Illusionist at the GFT on Sunday. Beautifully animated by Sylvain Chomet (who did Belleville Rendezvous) with a bittersweet ending. 7/10
  14. Eels, Academy tomorrow night.
  15. The great man's finest performance although the film is a typical Lynch mindfuck.
  16. Inception Saw it last night and wanted to see it mainly because it was not only directed but written by Christopher Nolan. It was absolutely stunning from start to finish, indeed, after that last scene and the screen going black, there was a collective gasp from the audience. 9/10
  17. £2 on Ghana at 11/4 placed in play after I saw hot shite Serbia were and regretted placing £3 @ 10/3 on them before kickoff. Up £25.50 for the tourney so far.
  18. Get yourself into one of Prague's many beer gardens for a liquid panacea. U Medvidku is good.
  19. Watching game 6...I see the Blackhawks goalie is called Antti Niemi...bit of a coincidence.
  20. FFS, I forgot I'd put any HW on my ipod. It's good though
