  1. Totally agree with you. The day "houses" became "property" and greedy rich folk decided to call themselves "speculators" rather than "selfish tossers with no consideration for any other person on the planet so long as I get mine" was the day your generation got shafted. The good news is that a lot of them are getting burned, because so many other people saw it as a good way to get wealthy of the back of some other poor slob.
  2. Currently in the middle of "The Book of Dave" by Will Self. Now, I like Self's stuff, even if he is up his own bum a bit, and this book is as good as anything I've read for a while. Cracking satire on religion, and very funny with it. The idea is that the book that a psychotic taxi driver wrote to his estranged son and buried in his back garden is discovered hundreds of years later by a group of people living in a flooded England, and its language and misogynist and misanthropic outlooks are picked up as the new religion, Daveism. Terrific stuff. I'll come back and edit this once I've finished it, but for anyone that fancies something a wee bit different with some laugh out loud moments and a lot of introspection, this is the fella.
  3. Booooo! THe copycat thread was a work of passion and genius. Some people..........
  4. Monkey, that avitar is just down right disturbing. Is it truly due to your love of art, or is it merely some perverse continuation of your War on w**k?
  5. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Pretty disappointed TBH. I loved Hunter S. Thomson's work, and I rate Johnny Depp highly, but with the exception of one or two moments I didn't think this did anyone involved justice. I can't beleive the same man who brought us "Brazil" could do so badly with this. Still good fun, but no more than 5/10 The Warriors (Directors Cut) Aged terribly, but a damn fine film, and you can see lots of references to it more modern gangland stuff. 7/10 Reservoir Dogs. 'Nuff said, 9/10
  6. So this is how this new fangled malarky works then.....

  7. Massive Attack, Brixton Academy in February. I don't get out much A bit worried about this one. Blue Lines is one of my favourite albums of all time. Ditto Protection (with the exception of the appalling "Light my Fire). Mezzanine was pretty damn fine too. 100th Window was total pish. We'll see............
  8. God. Read the book, then rewatch the film. I've rarely been more disappointed in a film.
  9. Nope. I'll give it a go though, had a look on Amazon.
  10. The first graphic novel I could take seriously, closely followed by Maus 1 and 2
  11. Oh absolutely! He was a brilliant war leader and a brilliant man of his time. Most of his politics did not appeal at all. TO be fair on him though, I think you're taking your quote without context-I believe that at one point he was deliberately trying to stretch Lufwaffe reserves with a lot of dummy steelworks etc., not necessarliy in heavily populated areas, so that might have been the reference? I don't know the context either mind you.
  12. Currently working my way through Winston Churchill's 2nd World War diaries. Heavy going, and a lot of it is probably only of interest to tacticians and economists, but the man was truly fascinating. Probably better than a biography, since you have to get the picture of a man not writing self consciously about what he was, more what happened and how he influenced it. A couple of classic quotes: "I was criticised for the diplomatic nature of my declaration of war [on the Japanese Empire]. ...It costs nothing be be plite when you are going to kill a man..." "[Vichy France] ...[britain] would have her neck wrung like a chicken within three weeks. Some chicken. Some neck."
  13. PLease post a review if your ears have stopped bleeding
  14. Motorhead Cambridge Corn Exchange Muse Wembley Arena 22nd November
  15. Mince he was. He was being thick and self centred, just like folk who don't put their trolleys away. I sincerely hope his phone doesn't work.
  16. I think he said yesterday that that was the next thing on the agenda.
