  1. Saw my first ever gig at the Empire Theatre in Edinburgh (now the Festival Theatre) on 24 November 1972.  Headline was Slade, supported by Thin Lizzy and Suzi Quatro.

Fantastic venue, although i saw more gigs at the Apollo in Glasgow as i got older and the elevated stage meant that you missed nothing. (Got fixed with the girl next to me at the Eagles gig in 1977).

    Happy days.

Had the BBC's election broadcast from 1997 playing in the background for a few hours. Bit of a distraction from a simpler time.

Things that surprised me, or that I'd forgotten:

    • Michael Portillo being touted as a frontrunner for the Tory leadership, before being whisked off the screen as word started to come through that all was not well in his totally safe seat. I'm sure he'll be fine.    He works for British Rail now ??
    • Jill Dando still being alive.   WID      've
    • Stirling 'too close to call' for Michael Forsyth                  Him and his mate Thomas Hamilton, eh ??  🙄
    • SNP hoping to surge to a massive haul of 7 seats.       The Formative Years
    • Sir Jammy Goldfinger and his proto-UKIP party.            Fannies
    • Constant talk of a imminent federal Europe from the anti-EU brigade, who were dismissed as crackpots, roundly rejected from British politics.   Westminster kens best
    • Tories may have as few as 3 seats left in Scotland, but that's a worst-case scenario.  Annabel Goldie ??

Ooh, David Mellor just lost. I remember his losing speech being spicy.    Typical Chelsea fascist

Oh, how today's modern, all-inclusive world differs from then, eh ??

Ibrox average attendance 40,000  Maybe a quarter are from Ireland that's 30,000 votes not a big deal in the big picture, escpecially when you have the same number of **** (or more) voting the other way. Football teams are not really the be all and end all of things. In a recent post it was pointed out that three times as many people go to church on a sunday as go to a football game on a full card Saturday.

You forgot that wee Guillaume has his bidey-in, Willhemena, and their adult children, Mason, Naranja and Sasha.  Add in Naranja's biological dad, Billy, his bint, Derriana, then multiply that by the 30k and you have a veritable plague of voters.

I'm guessing none of the above go to church.
