  1. With regards to Scot Gemmill, credit where it's due, in the u21 Euro qualifications, we're above Belgium and only behind Spain in our group.

Plus, in the aforementioned euro qualification he's mirrored the formation of the senior team.

    Kudos to him for that.

David Moyes is a ready made replacement for Steve Clarke, and he would take the job as he's said it in the past.

It's good to talk about the future but I don't think we should be retiring Steve Clarke too soon.

His contract runs out after the next word cup. And besides, he's earned the right to be the one who decides when it's time to quit.

    Their forward options are frightening

    That's where people are fooled.

In club football those players have Haaland, Rodri, De Bruyne, Musiala, Sane, Kroose, Vinicius Jnr, Camavinga, etc, that make them look good.

It wasn't that long ago that England toiled to a draw against North Macedonia thanks to an OG as well a weak 2-0 win vs Malta, again, with the help of another OG.

If Kane dropped out, they'd struggle to make it out of their group as he makes their goals and scores their goals.

People claim that they outplayed Scotland. They had 2 shots on target in 60 minutes.

    Don't believe the hype.

  3. If a player scores a hat-trick in a match involving Busquets, Alba and Messi, it's safe to say that he has something about him.

(I don't care what age they age those three are. All three could still walk into any EPL team)

I remember about 5 or 6 years ago watching Scotland u21 vs Netherlands u21s. It was Lewis Morgan against Denzel Dumfries.

Morgan spent 90 minutes turning Dumfries into a human pretzel. Dumfries was almost in tears at the end of the match.

I haven't watched Morgan in the MLS (Because I assumed that Clarke would never call him up) but I know he's a good player. He's a player who has a bit of McFadden about him.

It's only 6-Jun, are we doing this already? I'm debating whether to keep a record of all the rumours and we can have a chuckle at them all at the end of the summer. Hopefully we can get a few more McTominay to Bayern, Robertson to Real Madrid and McGinn to Manchester Utd type rumours.

Aberdeen fans seem to think they should be going for Stuart Armstrong and/or Scott McKenna. 🤭

    Sure, why not.

There's threads dating 5 days on this first page so it's not exactly mega traffic. ;)

I suppose I could edit my posts. It's no big deal. :)

    England's squad for Euro 2024

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal).

Defenders: Lewis Dunk (Brighton), Joe Gomez (Liverpool), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), Kieran Trippier (Newcastle), Kyle Walker (Manchester City).

Midfielders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Conor Gallagher (Chelsea), Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace).

Forwards: Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Jarrod Bowen (West Ham), Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Ivan Toney (Brentford), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa).

Defensively they're in bother. No fit left back.

Konsa, Dunk and Guéhi have 19 caps between them. Stones has been injured a lot this season. Only started 12 EPL matches this season.

Their central midfield is absolutely horrendous. Wharton has only played have a season in the EPL and this is Mainoo's first season. Three caps between them.

Four Crystal Palace players and they have "The best squad at the Euros".

    Right.

    Let the games begin!

  6. My initial opinion was I would've called up 35 players in the provisional squad. (Including Gauld, Morgan, Conway, Johnston, Doig, Barron, Danny Armstrong, Miller, Watson)

I wouldn't have called up Doak.

The point of that is that all of the squad would have a fortnight of training and mingling with the squad.

    But it wasn't to be.

The cut off for the final 26 selection is 11pm on Friday.

Suspect he’ll still be incompetent and out of his depth, regardless of calling up a sensible replacement.

Steve Clarke qualified for two tournaments.

If you think Steve Clarke is out of your depth then I'd love to hear your opinion on Vogts, Levein, McLeish, Strachan and Burley.

Steve Clarke is Scotland's best and most successful manager since Craig Brown.

If you disagree? Fine. That's your perogative.

  8. Delighted that Morgan has been called up. He's the only player in the squad who is a natural dribbler and only player who can beat people.

Plus, at 27 he's at the prime of his career.

Hopefully he makes the final 26.

Clarke has to cut 2 players.

A vey lazy retort. Clarke knew full well of Doak's injuries, but still picks him? Made an arse of it. Then Doak withdraws, surprise, it smack of media telling what to do. Surely he could have picked a fit promising youngster instead. Clarke is out of his depth at this level.

    Don't go overboard.

Should Clarke have picked a bigger squad, with a few u21 players in the mix? Yes.

He's taken us to two tournaments. He's hardly out of his depth.

He's a human being. He makes mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes.

I have seen some wacky stuff on the internet in my time but suggesting we rest players in the actual opener takes the fucking biscuit. I think some people should go for a wee lie down.

    I know.

I've read a few people suggest Gilmour be left out for the Germany match.

I usually respect everyone's opinion, but that would be a bad idea.

Germany press high and they're all with the gegenpressing, we need players who are press resistant, and Gilmour is the best at it.

He had a sluggish end to the season so I hope he plays himself into form.

I'd say thats some pretty solid advice for you there slayer

    Nah.

Go to my posting history. I'd be flabbergasted if I mentioned it more than five times in my previous 100 posts.

    That's sparce. ;)

Plus it is the system that we use, what do you want me to call it? The defensive trinity? 😜

Craig Brown or Stevie Clarke as manager?

    Its Craig Brown for me.

People give credit for Steve Clarke solving the puzzle of the lack of center backs, but he only copied Craig Brown's blueprints of a back three.

Also, In Euro 96 there were 16 teams. As opposed to 24 teams now.

Qualifying for a 16 team tournament, especially with the lack of depth in defence and attack, was extraordinary.

People beat Craig Brown with the "He never blooded young players" stick, but when you consider the youngsters at the time were Gary Holt, Stephen Hughes, Darren Mackie, Keigan Parker, Stephen Simmons, Gavin Rae, etc, he wasn't exactly sitting on a golden generation.
