  1. Aye, it was totally out of character, but I can't believe there is anything dodgy - he wouldn't have made it so blatant! Hendry was pretty poor this evening to be fair, and still won 7-1.

  2. What do you mean 'if'? It already is enormously popular in China. They will be dominating it soon.

It probably will happen right enough, but it'll happen even quicker with a Chinese world champion to inspire the young players. Not a bad thing for the game as a whole, I suppose, but personally I would find it less interesting if most of the top players were Chinese.

Again as I said to Gnash - why?

Millions playing doesnt mean that they will automatically be world class.

Where are the World Class Chinese or Indian footballers?

Of course they won't automatically be world class. I said nothing of the sort. It's pretty obvious, even to you I suspect, that the more people play the game in China, the more world class players there will be.

It doesn't work in football for at least 3 reasons - football isn't as popular in China as it is here (and it's really not very popular in India); football is very popular in most of the world, so there is more competition, unlike snooker which is only popular in the UK (and increasingly some other countries including China); football is a team game - it's not just about having the best individuals and it's harder for any one team to dominate.

  3. I'd like to see Ding Junhui win. He seems a nice lad... and I think a Chinese World Champion would be good for the game.

I think it would be really bad actually, at least from a selfish British perspective. China is so huge that if the game becomes really popular there, in 20 years time the top 16 will be all, or almost all, Chinese.

  4. Kanadia - congratulations. :)

Reina - sorry to hear that, terrible news.

Why should they have to try it though? To be honest that whole paragraph annoys me. And before you jump in I've worked as a midwife and I breastfed my son.

Because it's (generally) the best for the child, which they've chosen, one way or another*, to bring into the world. I'd make the same argument about why women shouldn't smoke while pregnant.

    * For the pedants, I exclude women who became pregnant after a rape, or whose contraceptive failed through no fault of their own (eg didn't just forget to take the pill).

  5. I'm no breastfeeding nazi, but mothers and prospective mothers who have no intention of breastfeeding and don't try at all do annoy me. If they try it and it doesn't work for them or if they're simply not able, then fair enough.

Rest in peace little Oliver Hewson.

The word tragedy is far overused in trivial things like football forums. This is a real tragedy. Thoughts with the family. I used to work with his mum. :bairn

Very sad. Puts things in perspective.

  6. The problem is that it doesnt always come out in the same direction two pees in a row or even consistenly through the duration of a single pee. Quite often you can be peeing straight into the pan when suddenly and without warning a breakaway stream fires off at a 45 degree angle.

Take a garden hose, cover the end with your thumb and and try to aim it into a bucket. This will give you an indication of the challenge.

The problem is exacerbated after any kind of arousal and/or alcohol

Please Note- I can only speak for as a cavalier - roundheads may have a different experience

Correct. And on top of all of that, even if you have mastered the wonky angles and double streams, there is a remarkable amount of spray that comes from the tip and spray back after the main jet has hit the toilet. Assuming there's a reasonable pressure, it is quite literally impossible to leave the toilet rim completely unscathed.

Ladies, if you think it's easy, try it for yourself. Hold your boyfriend's / husband's / stranger's wee fella while he's doing a piss. I bet most of it ends on the seat or the floor.

  7. Cbeebies doesn't do too badly in the fun/educational stakes. I'm a fan of Mr Bloom's Nursery, myself. I'm not sure a 16 month baby will get the gist of it, but they all get up and have a dance and a sing at the end, so I see that as exercise. Channel 71 on freeview.

As an example, here are the listings for tomorrow. Tommy Zoom (not a personal favourite, I have to say) is all about environmental stuff, like pollution and how it's bad and so on. Zing Zillas is all about music. Tweenies is just a group of kids at nursery, but there's a few lessons to learn there. Numberjacks is a good one for counting and numbers in general. Alphablocks is about 3 minutes long per cartoon, but I love it. The blocks hold hands to make words and there's one episode in particular where each block tells you the sound they make. Charlie laughed his bottom off for ages watching it on repeat when it first came out. Something Special is not so much aimed at kids with learning disabilities, but it teaches sign language to all kids while Justin goes off on adventures with disabled children. It's great because it doesn't make a feature out of it, and personally, I think that makes children less inclined to pick out differences because they just won't notice, if you see what I mean. I definitely recommend that one. Mister Maker - Art Attack for little ones. That should be enough to keep you going a little while!

    Great info there, thanks.

Your children should be taken in to care.

Haha - sometimes I think that too! :P

  8. When do kids usually get interested in TV? I've heard some parents say they stick their 6 month olds in front of the box for a couple of hours a day to shut them up. But even if I wanted to do that, it wouldn't work because Callum (now 16 months) has never shown any more than a fleeting interest in the TV.

I've nothing against him watching a moderate amount of educational TV - any suggestions about what to try him with?

  9. Not a good week for accident and illness. Callum saw fit to head-butt the radiator on Monday, and almost immediately his forehead swelled up to the size of an egg (probably an exaggeration but it was huge). It was the first time I'd totally panicked but eventually got him down to A+E, where they said he was fine, apart from the egg sized lump.

Then on Thursday morning we got him up in the morning to fine he'd vomited all over his cot. Today I got a call from the nursery to say I needed to collect him as he'd had 3 loose nappies in quick succession. I'd just got home and lifted him out of the car seat when he promptly vomited all over me. After 3 more bouts of diarrhoea he seemed to be getting back to normal and vomited all over my wife and the carpet.

The last time he had diarrhoea and vomiting he passed it on to us and we got it much worse. It's shaping up to be a very messy weekend.

  10. My wee boy's just caught chicken pox. Everyone's been saying how it's unusual to get it so young (just over a year), but it doesn't seem to be bothering him all that much as I think it's less severe the younger you are. We don't know where he got it from as we haven't seen anyone with it. Most likely place is nursery, but they're denying any of the other kids there have had it.

Shame his lovely soft skin has been ruined, albeit temporarily. :(

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried breast milk? A friend was asking

Aye, fresh from source. Tasted ok, but was far too warm for my liking. I reckon chilled it would be nicer than cow's milk.

  11. But the constant backing and foring to GP trying to get them to take me seriously is wearing.

Yeah, that's the experience we (mainly my wife to be honest) had as well, although your poor wee one sounds even worse than my boy Callum was. We tried several different medicines, each with varying degrees of success. Gaviscon, Colief, Infacol, Carobel and changed his milk to Neocate. The clear winner was Carobel, which is basically just a feed thickener, but it almost stopped the sickness and the post-feed screaming. To some extent he just grew out of it as well.
