  1. Know how you felt! The first 2 miles I was pushing people out the way. I started in B doing sub-7 min miles and still had people in front walking/jogging. Really pissed me off. I did the GNR in 1:34. Was on for sub 1:30 when the heat started to sap my energy after 8 miles. Did a hill session on Thursday and got a Pentalthon today (200, 800, long jump, discus and javelin).
  2. done 2 x 10 mile runs over the past 2 weeks, both withing 1 hour 20 mins.
  3. Did 1 mile on the track on Monday in 5:43. Was chuffed to break 6 mins. also did the Long Jump (4.06) and Discus 19.20. Just started back on training for middle distance last week. 10 x 400m, all between 80 and 85 secs with 90 secs rest in between and then 4 x 1k efforts all between 3:45 and 3:50, was hanging on the last one though.
  4. Did the parkrun last saturday in 19:46. On Monday did Long Jump 4:25, Triple Jump 9:28 and 200m in 30.8 Yesterday I did a bad 400m hurdles in 80.7. Disappointed with my technique. did 9:50m in triple jump. then 12:55 for the steeplechase. First Aid in sport course today.
  5. Well done to everyone that did the Edinburgh Half or Full marathons today. On Monday I did the Long Jump (4:12m), 3000m (11:25) and 400m (71.5) Did Parkrun yesterday... took it easy and got 20.05
  6. Ran the parkrun yesterday. 20:03 and 14th. It was a sweltering and lots of flies on the coastal footpath. I was flying for the 1st mile but died! It took about 6 months to see a noticable difference, but then it got easier. Spent pretty much 6 days out of 7 with sore legs.
  7. 5 mile race on Tuesday in 34mins 12secs. Started in blazing sunshine and ended up soaked to the skin. PB by 49 secs, so I can't complain. Did long jump and hurdles tonight.
  8. Just running is an achievement. Your doing more than anyone sitting on the couch. 5 mins is very achievable. I was 17.5 stone when I started (6ft 4), now I am 13 stone (Still 6ft4) I shaved off 5mins in my first year.
  9. did 5 mile race in 34:12. Didn't plan on doing it, so I did 4 x 400m in the morning all under 80 secs. legs were too heavy and grass too wet to hammer it.
  10. Went for a 6 mile tempo run. Managed the 6 miles in 45:19, which included some pretty long inclines. Struggled from mile 3-5, but when I hit that last mile I was flying.
  11. No video footage of my combat roll. The shin and thigh are still black and blue. On the plus side I'm ranked No. 6 or the Steeplechase, No. 10 for the triple jump, No. 27 for the Long Jump and Number 50 for the 400m for the Over-35 in the UK. Ran the Park run today in 20:07 and finished 6th.
  12. Started off with 2nd place in the long jump with 4.42m, which is a PB. Then finished 1st in the B string of the 400m H in 78.9, which is also a PB. I was 2nd in the B string of the Triple Jump with 9.74m. I won the B string of the 3000m S/C with 13:10. This included slipping of the barrier and bashing my right leg and going into a forward combat roll on the 3rd lap. Lucky to have not broke my neck looking back on it. I then did the 400m in 74.2, but I jogged the last 200m as I was knackered and had no chance of finishing any higher than 4th. The final event was the 5000m which I did in 21:30 and finished 3rd in the B string. Everything from my shoulders to my ankles is in a world of hurt this morning! I did 2 events less than normal!
  13. If you find soreness in the joints try running on grass where possible to avoid impact injuries. Also do squats, calf raises, planks, sit ups and lunges to build up the muscles around your joints. They will help with impact. Obviously losing weight will help (I lost 5.5 stone) joints as less impact. Been doing lots of hurdles, throws and jumps these past few weeks. Not much in the way of actual running. Today is the first track and field match today. 400m Hurdles, 3000 S/C, triple jump and various events that I'll have to cover. Looking to PB in the 3 "main events" listed. Coaching before it today. Thinking of doing the Pier2Pier South Shields to Sunderland next Sunday. Start on the beach, along the coastal footpaths then finish on the beach. Have you ever tried running on a beach? Hard as nails.
  14. Promised I'd put up a link for places for the GNR Here's the first one I have from a little know source. http://www.willow-burn.co.uk/fundraising/willow-burn-events
  15. You can also include planks and side planks into that. Throw in some body weight exercises like press ups, pull ups and leg raises (like Jane Fonda did). I also do hurdle drills that help too, but I'd like to be Ashton Eaton!
