Surely after the season we've had so far he'll have to get sacked in the summer?

Would be ridiculous to scrape an 8th place finish 20 points shy of the playoffs (clearly the minimum target) and then be allowed to just go again next year!?

So yeah that's probably what our board will do 🤦

I think at this rate we will be lucky to get 8th place.  I can see us easily losing to Stirling and Annan which would place us in a struggle to avoid 9th. This charlatan can't be allowed to continue to the end of the season.  Action is long overdue from a board that is known for inaction.

  2. Sadly it is getting harder and harder to find motivation to rock up at Palmerston these days.  Hardly surprising when we are treated to Bartley's own unique brand of negative football.  Tomorrow however is his big chance to showcase his talents live to an entire nation.

On the subject of players arriving late, I agree with a previous poster that this seems to be used as a convenient excuse following a poorer than usual performance.  It is clearly something that needs to be dealt with but keep it in house.  Continually outing this as an excuse does not do us any favours and points to a lack of professionalism.

  3. This is where Bartley gets to show off his brand of anti-football live to a grateful viewing public.  Will he chunter on about adhering to the "game plan" on live TV?

To get anything from this game a massive improvement from yesterdays shambles is needed.  Can't see much of an improvement coming though.  I think a number of our players have long since stopped playing for him.

As has been said previously I’d like to see three changes from last weeks starting 11.

This should be a relatively easy win for us, but we must take Bartley’s line-up and game plan into account.

City’s young team no doubt will be full of enthusiasm and hopefully they’ll be feeling the effects of their midweek game.

Bold, I know but I’m going for a 4-0 win for Queens to try and keep our diminishing chances of the play-offs alive!

What could possibly go wrong 🙂

I think he may have run out of ideas but they won’t make a decision on the future until summer is my guess. If he gets us to 4th he gets another go if not he is toast. A shame, I like his intellect but in reality we are no better than the shambolic Gibson era

Saturday was another master class from Bartley on how to set up to not attack your opposition.  I have long since came to the conclusion that he is deluded.  I think he will get to the end of the season given that we have little danger of relegation.  Sadly though I think that 4th place is now beyond us.

  6. Difficult away game here, Cove seem to have improved a bit since we were up there earlier in the season, in the same time we have regressed..  Given Bartleys negative approach to away matches (and matches in general) this is likely to be another turgid watch from our point of view.  The highlight of the day will probably be the pre match drinks.

I was at the St Mirren cup tie and in my post in the match thread I acknowledged that the players worked hard to fulfill Marvin's game plan, and for 3/4 of the game it worked. Not an unreasonable game plan given our injury situation and given the opposition were 2 leagues above us and at home. That said, I had 2 main criticisms ...

1 - Once we went behind, with 1/4 of the game left, we didn't immediately become more expensive to try to get back in the game. We were heading out anyway, so why not throw the dice?

2 - Plan A carried zero threat and was effectively hoping for ET and penalties from the kick off. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Buckie had more shots at Parkhead than we did in Paisley.

I didn't expect us to beat St Mirren but we weren't exactly up against Real Madrid so it would have been nice to have at least carried some threat.

I too was at the St Mirren game, and agree with the points that you have made.  Taken in isolation a narrow defeat away to opponents 2 leagues above us is not a terrible result.  The game plan may have been understandable had we been playing Celtic at Parkhead.  However St Mirren although decent are hardly at Celtics level, and were very much there to be got at.

Once we went a goal down we should have opened up a bit more and tried to get back in to the tie.  A continuation of Plan A was never going to achieve that.  At least trying to make the keeper work is a reasonable expectation.

*I'm jealous. The only game we've looked good was Motherwell at home. We played well against Annan in the first game but Annan are rank.

** Possibly. But expecting a shot on target shouldn't be a high expectation at any level of football IMO.

I wasn't at the Motherwell game due to work commitments.  Annan away we were ok for the 1st half then completely fell out of it 2nd half.  Montrose away was a decent performance.  Sadly performances of this nature are in the minority, with utter dross being the normal.

I see it as a sad indictment of how far we have declined when not having a shot on target (or a shot at all) is seen by some to be acceptable.

  8. I think it is very obvious to most people who have watched us this season that players are needed in this window.  The problem we have though is that the squad is already too big.  I think players will have to move on first.  Therein lies the biggest issue.  Given how poorly some of these players have performed would anyone really take them (loan or otherwise)?

Well I can live in hope. Let's be honest we're not going to go down but if we lose 1 of the next couple of league games against the team's we're fighting against our season's basically over. What will the crowds be like for the remainder of the home games?

We have numbers guys on the board, let them do the maths.

I kind of agree with what you are saying.  I think the time for getting rid is overdue.  Abject performances and a couple car crash interviews should have seen to that.  The few weeks prior to last Saturday (while little more than papering over cracks) have however bought him a little time.  I now don't see our board acting anytime soon, even if we lose farcically on Saturday.

  10. A fixture in which we never seem to do well.  Hopefully we can add some quality over the week.  However given his poor recruitment this seems unlikely.

Following yesterdays turgid watch I can't see anything other than 3 points for Alloa.  Bartley should be punted now following his latest car crash of an interview.

He's been deluded all season. If I were a queen's fan I'd be really cheesed off continually being patronised with his assessment of games. How can any self respecting manager be happy with a game where you have 0 points, 0 goals, 0 shots on target and barely leave your own half?

Other part time teams with less resources than queens have come to TFS and tactically made a real game of it, Montrose and kelty immediately spring to mind.

What annoys me most is his rigid approach.  Players are expected to conform absolutely to the system and individuality is clearly not encouraged.  Even when the game plan is obviously not working he refuses to change.  Every week his interviews consist of variations of "its not my fault"

Had we tried to make a game of it yesterday and gone down 3-2 or 2-1 , it would have been more palatable.  Attending games now is becoming more a test of endurance.

  12. Can't bring myself to watch the post match interview.  Yesterday was a harrowing enough watch for those of us who attended.  Back to the tried and failed negative tactics.  I've always liked away days, but now I am starting to question if it is worth spending all that money to watch s**t shows like that.

I was there yesterday, a draw was fair. Wind spoiled it a bit, lots of passes drifting out of play or going nowhere in particular ( yes, I know, that’s our normal game in good conditions…..).

Stirling edged it first half, thought the goal was a bit scrappy, was it a misplaced shot from the edge of the box or a good pass?
After nearly scoring in the first minute of the second half, Stirling sat back (or were pushed back?) and it was all Queens. We seemed be getting corner after corner without getting close, until the one that finally went in. If you keep sticking the ball in the danger area, sooner or late it goes in. Is the theory.

With 15 left, I thought both teams went for it (no time wasting from Stirling), it was actually exciting. As Queens fans we were waiting on the inevitable sucker punch (story of our season), there chances at both ends but no more goals.
To our fans not there, that’s a game we would have lost a few weeks ago.
Thought Reilly put in a good shift.

Pretty fair assessment of the game.  I was there too, and the wind was a big factor in the game.  Fair to say we were never going to be treated to a classic in far from ideal conditions.  Once we got back level both sides went pressing for a winner.  Can't say I noticed much on the way of time wasting other than that shown by the first aiders.

Over the piece a draw is probably a fair result.  I would gladly have accepted it had it been offered before the game.  Overall a good away day,  and it was good to talk to a couple Stirling fans in the Springkerse before the game.

I still think "great capture" is a bit much. I was very happy with his appointment but I've never went as far as to say he was a great capture: that to me suggests we're very lucky to have got his services.

It's taken me longer to give up on MB (probably been more patient with him purely because he's a rookie) than others but I'm certainly at that stage now.

Like you I was happy with his appointment.  I'd agree that it was stretching it a bit to say he was a great capture.  Like any rookie manager the appointment is not without its risks.  I had high hopes that he would recruit in a sensible and targeted manner, instead we got more of the scatter gun approach we had become used to.

Being a rookie manager he needs to find his feet and refine his approach.  For this reason I gave him plenty of leeway.  However, this ship has now sailed.  The constant blaming of others when it goes wrong (to me) shows a manager out of his depth.

Next up is Montrose at Links Park, and I will make  the trip more in hope than expectation.

  15. Yesterday was yet another case of it being a good day until 300 arrived and the game started.  Accies seldom got out of 2nd gear.  They didn't have to as we were that bad.  We were ripped apart down both flanks.   Bartley couldn't fail to see it, but he done nothing to address it.  The triple substitution at the end was just baffling.

We proved in spectacular fashion that last weekend was just a temporary blip.  This bunch of shysters that Bartley has recruited seem to be incapable of doing even the basics.  Surely not even Bartley can survive this?  Change is needed now or League 2 could be a very real possibility.

I am not in any way questioning your feelings for the club I am questioning why on earth we would want to create an exorbitant cost structure to accommodate MB as head coach?

Agree with this.  I think the cost involved in creating another layer of football management would outweigh any benefits that might be derived from it.   Cheaper to dispense with our manager (and his assistant), and recruit someone else.  I think he now knows his time is up and is just waiting for the inevitable.

  17. Well reading this thread has certainly livened up my Sunday!

That interview to me was one of a man who knows his time is up.  Spent half of it focusing on basic errors at the back while ignoring his own failings, and failings in the rest of the team.  While he is right to call out instances of unprofessionalism from some players his very public condemnation isn't really the best way to go about it.  After that this is never going to end well.  Very surprised that the club has allowed that interview to be published.

Its a shame how it has worked out for him and the club.  I like the man and find him intelligent and articulate.  I genuinely wanted him to do well.  However, there is no way back now, and change has to be made.

Watched the interview. He does seem very rigid in his philosophy and you can visible see the pressure is mounting on him which in turn he's maybe transferring onto the players? Does he have the quality of players to play the style he's preaching?

It's 5 goals in 9 matches for Queen's in all competitions and haven't scored more than 1 in any of those games. That heaps pressure on the defence too. Marv concentrating too much on keeping it tight and stifling the attacking side?

Certainly underachieving as a group and the number of injuries is a contributing factor. He might still turn it around, needs to start right away you feel.

We were trapped in a similar run and managed to find our way out without looking liked the finished article and likewise with a manager we're less than convinced about.

He is very rigid in his philosophy.  It's very much his way or no way which is stifling creativity, and individuality is clearly discouraged.  A number of our team seem to be playing with fear.   To answer your question I would say that he doesn't have the players to play the style he is trying to implement.  Its League 1 and we're not Barcelona, the players available at this level generally lack the technical ability.  Yesterday was a very painful watch for those of us who made the trip.  Endless sideways passes followed by an aimless punt up the park is making us predictable and easy to play against.

Injuries have clearly played a part and in some cases have forced his hand to an extent.  However setting up not to lose is not likely to get us out of the mess in which we find ourselves.  Like a number of us I was happy with his appointment and I genuinely want him to do well.  However improvement is urgently needed to halt the decline.

  19. Yesterday was yet another case of it being a good day until the game got in the way.  A very enjoyable couple hours in The Old Brewery and then we were subjected to that performance.  Off the back of a good result against a decent Falkirk side our manager again sees fit to mess with the starting line up.  The insistence on passing the ball to death in our own half is making us predictable and easy to play against.  We created little against an Alloa side who without being particularly impressive always looked more likely to score.

Anyone who elected not to go to watch us yesterday definitely got the better end of the deal.  Bartley's post match interview is full of the same talk of basic mistakes.  Its time he accepted that his current approach is not working and makes the necessary changes.  Sadly I think he is too stubborn to do so.  Lose next week and I think his time has got to be up.
