  1. Onto Brechin, I though Nick Ross was the standout today, never wasted possession, and looked better then he did at Raith. I've still to see what Rory Loy can do, service to him in both games has been dreadful, Kane Hemmings looks very promising. Full backs today, Kerr and Black were the standouts for me. I really hope I'm wrong, but I'm not impressed with Holt so far. Others have raved about him, so I hope it's just me who is wrong, we really need a good LB. McGowan looked off the pace today, hardly surprising, but it could be well into the season before we see him back to his best. For me, he was our Mt Indispensable last year. Gary Irvine was Gary Irvine, decent squad player, but not a starter. Mitchell in goal did little to inspire confidence unfortunately. Roberts and Tank, I doubt will see much first team action. Big plus? Spanish lad Extra B has been very assured, good football brain, can pass a ball. Would like to see him bed in with McPake. No Konrad or Meggatt today, hope they're not injured. Would like to see if Meggatt can handle LB.

Anyway, onto next week, back at Dens with higher standard opposition. Should start to get a better idea of the team as the week progresses. Also remembering, this is a young team we have now. Things should only get better !

I honestly wonder if I am watching the same game as some boys at times - holy f**k

  2. Mild weather conditions, gusts of around 35-40MPH, mild?

I'm not making excuses, the team that wanted to win won, a friendly.

The wind had absolutely no affect on the game today. And the pitch was good.

I am totally chilled guys - I think I am the only one that is! I am the only one not running around making excuses for what I thought was a poor performance. Just saying the players we had out today should be good enough to win against a team like Brechin comfortably. In my opinion a lot of the players didn't put a decent shift in today. Simple as that.

  3. Stewart was pretty poor in my opinion although did put a good ball through to Hemmings late on. McGinn and Kerr weren't bad and Holt looked good. A few players will have to get their finger out if they want to be part of the starting eleven (Roberts has no chance). Not having any of this "it was a 2nd string line-up", "pitch was poor", "conditions were bad" pish. We had a strong team on show, the pitch was better than decent and the weather will get a lot worse soon!

  4. Martyn might not be a spectacular player but he is a solid one and you know what you are going to get from him everytime

Have to disagree with your point there andyh. The biggest problem with him is that we never know what we are going to get. I have seen him have absolute howlers but in other games have seen him rip teams apart. It's the latter that makes me think he deserves another shot. He definitely has potential and we have nobody else like him.

  5. Left back and centre half are big priorities. Dyer isn't good enough at this level and his back up is Gary Irvine! at least Gary reads the game reasonably well despite being out of position and lacking pace. First time I saw Konrad I thought he looked far too small and lightweight for a centre half and this has proven to be the case. Not understanding the love for McPake either. Far from being our worst defender but he doesn't dominate against bigger strikers and gets out paced by the smaller ones. I would gladly have 3 new defenders on Sunday.

First few games of the season I thought our midfield looked very good but injures have cost us in that department. Thompson needs to go. No point in wasting that big wage packet on someone sitting in the stand. I feel confident with McGowan, Harkins and Ferry in the team.

Up front Clarksons luck seems to have run out and Tankulic deserves a start next game. Stewart is the best find we have had for years. Hope we have him on a long term contract because he is getting better every time he plays.

Time for Hartley to be ruthless. 6000 Dees turned up at Dens for a game against St Mirren last week. He won't have that support for much longer if things don't change.

  6. Another good reason to have "summer football " that has been in discussion .

And to the poster who made comments about ice hockey has either never played or understood the game . First off , it is by far the hardest game to play . You have to be able to skate first before even trying to incorporate the skills . Then dealing with physical challenges .

Sorry , I'm Canadian so I get upset at guys who "dis" the game . If you don't like it fine but it is not a "shite " sport

    Rant over -sorry

Of course it is a shite sport. More people would rather watch Raith rovers for fucks sake!

  7. This may sound daft, but there is another sporting team in kirkcaldy that could have a bearing on the rovers crowds next season - the fife flyers. The flyers have been competing in the lower echelons of scottish ice hockey since the demise of the british national league 6 years ago, and there is a chance they could be joining the elite league next season. I know of people who stopped going to watch the flyers and started going to starks park instead. A Few of those people have said that if the flyers get back into a high standard of competetive hockey, they would happily go back to watch, even if they had to fork out £15. Ok, there is the choice of going to watch the rovers in the afternoon, then the flyers at night, but not everyone can afford that luxury. If the flyers do go elite, surely both themselves and the rovers could make some deals which could help people afford to watch both teams? say for instance, buy a ticket for a raith game and get a voucher with a £5 discount on entry to a flyers game, and vice versa maybe?

Dundee Stars are in the 'top' league of Ice Hockey I believe. Crowds at Dens and Tannadice have suffered terribly.
