  1. I do see what you mean, but on the other hand who are we, the SPL (or SPD) clubs to undermine the lower divisions by treating them as a reserve league? If I was a fan of a lower league club and saw, for example, "Hibs B" competing in and (possibly) winning my division I'd feel mighty peeved. To me it just cheapens the lower divisions.

it seems to work in spain, germany and portugal. - though i think there should be an age cap of 3 over 21 players in b team squads.

    not so well san marino

a reserve league would be fine also - but there needs to be something between u19 and full pro as a lot of kids just aren't ready till 21/22 to play at spd/spl level.

anyway change and lots of it is what we need.

  2. I agree with a lot of what you say here, except I'm not sure about the B sides in lower divisions. I'm much more in favour of a return of a reserve league.

    or that as well.

the thing about the B teams is to develop players in competitive football, but not too competitive - if you know what i mean.

i just think our game is falling and now we have an opportunity to really change our game and get the fans back and get them to identify with the players who wear the colours of the clubs.

I would also want an elite SFA development team operating within the league structure with an annual player draft for when players turn 18/19 with the most recently promoted team to the top league getting first pick on these players but with 50% of any transfer fee going back to the governing body to help administer the game.

  3. Good. The SPL has been a failure. I'd rather the SPD was recreated within the SFL.

there are too many governing bodies in such a small country.

I think we need a revolution of sorts to get the crowds back to the game.

I would be in favour of a 20 team SPD, a 20 team SD1 and a regionalised SD2 incorporating non league and junior clubs.

play offs, terraces, lower wages for players, more fans, terrace prices that match the national minimum wage, 10% of capacity being given to local schools, games played at 5/6pm on a Saturday (more and more people are employed in jobs that force them to work Saturday mornings and early afternoons). have beer tents erected inside the grounds after the game serving cheep but low alcohol beers at reasonable prices - turn the games into social events. Standard family (non segregated) priced tickets for all teams at £40 for a family of 4. maximum squad sizes of 20 over 21yo players of which 10 must conform to UEFA's homegrown policy, SPD clubs have B teams in the SD2 regional leagues. Wage limits in the SD1 and lower of each player earning no more than double the national minimum wage (on a pro rata basis obviously). Each club to have a student section of least 5% of the ground with 1/2 price tickets. Wage structures in SPD to be based on performance with maximum basic wage rates (that are the same for each club) clubs able to set bonuses seperately based on league positions and cup performance and able to pay large bonuses for european football progress.

  4. There's a big difference between doing that, and doing it knowing it's never going to get any better.

If you're saying would have, and it would have made no difference to you if Celtic never won the league again, then fair play to you...but I guess we'll never really know for sure.

dude, when i was a kid i didn't think Celtic would get near a championship.

even after mccann came in it took ages to have a real attempt at the league.

when i got into football the premier division was like a few mini leagues.

    top:Rangers on their own

2nd:Aberdeen, Hearts and eventually Motherwell (Aberdeen almost always finished 2nd)

for last european place: Celtic, Motherwell, Dundee United, Hibs, i'm sure st johnstone finished ahead of us one year.

    relegation fodder: the rest....

  5. You're not understanding or acknowledging the distinction I'm making between supporting an Old Firm side, and supporting a non-old firm side. If Motherwell had gone out of business then yeah, we'd all have had to either find new clubs, or scale back our interest in following one properly. That would have been our only 2 choices, end of story. However the point i'm making (and one which you will vehemently disagree with) is that an ex-Motherwell fan wouldn't learn anything by following Kilmarnock, or St Mirren, or Morton, or East Fife or Falkirk, they didn't already know and experience, whereas really going for it full-on, an Old Firm fan would. Although they wouldn't realise it until they did because they aren't aware of anything lacking in terms of their experience in truly following a football club.

i started supporting Celtic in 1989/90..... throughout the nineties 4th and 5th was decent.

so i doubt i lack the experience of following a mid table team around the country.

  6. Every point league Rangers have been given since the mid 90s when they started the shenanigans both in the old Premier Division and the SPL should be deducted now.

on the basis of what the daily mail have to say?

if the daily mail had their way they'd kick the hard working tax paying immigrants (and probably their descendants) out so that small town whitefolks can feel safe when they sleep at night.

so..... i'll wait for further info before passing my all important judgement.

  7. Did Airdrie not have a local team in the 1910s or 20s or were they just not bigoted good enough for your ancestral line?

I am sure there was a far greater racist bigot element among the airdrie fans of that time than there was at rangers.

considering 1910 is just 22 years after the birth of Celtic and it being well documented in Ian Archer's book about Celtic released i think in 1988 that although the poor people of the Glasgow's east end and Glasgow's Irish community in general were happy that their creation Celtic defeated Rangers reserves in their first ever match, Rangers were the team those communities supported.

Sectarianism was certainly a problem at the SFA long before it was a problem at Rangers. (read the Ian Archer book for more info).

  8. Being completely serious in amongst a lot of ribbing and slagging, should this go the full shabang and Rangers do fold completely I have a wee suggestion to put to you. You seem like a very decent sort and I genuinely think you'd get a lot out of it.

If Rangers as we know them are no more, then the club you have followed are gone, and you'll have two choices. The first would be to see what arises from the ashes, and rally behind them...hoping you get back to where you left off as quickly as possible. 5 years time, you'll probably find you're supporting one of the big two, and tossing league titles back and forth. The second? Well, that's a bit more interesting.

Why not pick another club, and give yourself 2 or 3 seasons of genuinely following them as closely as you do Rangers. For that period of time, ignore what's happening with Phoenix Rangers, don't even pay attention to what's happening in the East End. Just follow your new club for that period, get your season ticket, pick your stand and your seat. Travel to away games and just go where the ride takes you for that 2 or 3 years.

If, at the end of that time you haven't liked it, then by all means go back to following Phoenix Rangers. All that will have happened is you'll have missed out all the pissing about in the lower leagues, the ineligibility for Europe, and there won't have been any Old Firm games for you to miss. It will be like it hadn't happened. That's not what will happen though.

Whether you pick the relative locality of St Mirren, a little bit further to Rugby Park...travelling across the city to my own club Motherwell, or hell if you're attached to the size of a city club then go for Hearts or Hibs, I guarantee you will have the time of your life. You'll have a feeling of being part of something that has an intimacy to it beyond anything you thought possible. You'll experience emotions that you didn't even realise you had. You'll make friends that are closer than anyone you've met at Ibrox, purely because you are now going through the same things they are...as they are to you, and if you think you've experienced that already with Rangers then you're in for a bit of a surprise. Do it properly...give it your all and I guarantee you...guarantee....you'll never be back at Ibrox as a home supporter again. There's nothing, absolutely nothing...that can match the true emotion of following a smaller club. Old Firm fans think we're diddies because we follow clubs who can't win? You'll learn that the very reason your bond with your club is so much stronger than an Old Firm fan could ever experience is because you can't win. Take the pursuit of titles away, and all your left with is your bond to the club. It will blow your mind what that can feel like.

Seriously mate, consider giving it a try. If Rangers as we know it are gone anyway, then you've nothing to lose and everything to gain. You think you love football..you think you love your club? You might just find out what that really feels like.....

    Or....

More than one club will rise from the ashes that was Rangers.

  9. Why would UEFA stop you having a church parade?. Perhaps if some of the "minority" went to a church on a Sunday they would possibly learn something.

Why would UEFA stop you working with the Boys Brigade? As a BB company captain we are not a single faith organisation and are open to people of all or no faiths. Yes there is a Christian background but its non denominational (mainly Church of Scotland) and the only BB event I have been to in Glasgow was hosted by your rivals from the East End of the city.

The problem with the "minority" is they confuse their history and bigotry with true religion. That's where the former chairman fell down.

I went to boys brigade as a kid as many of my school friends joined. I kept earning my group minus points every monday night as i had no idea what the hell sunday school was.

    open to all my arse!

maybe these days it's different but back then it certainly wasn't.

  10. That is what your team is all about, those are the fans they have been encouraging for decades.

You started supporting Rangers, I believe, in the 1970's when they operated a sectarian signing policy, and the club and their fans were openly anti-catholic, and still you gave them your support.

Those bigots, backed by the 90 minuters, are the public face of your club, that's what the guy who goes to Fir Park, Rugby Park, or Love Street sees when Rangers come calling. They're the real Rangers fans, not you. The ones on Rangers media clamouring for the administrators to sack all the f*****s first, they're the Rangers fans we've all known for decades, and despised.

Maybe it's time you took the blinkers off, then you'll get it, like we all do.

The Old Firm have, for long and weary, been peddling this lie about it being a minority, the rest of us know the truth.

As I've been saying for years II

    V

I think that's harsh dude, people start supporting their football club long before they understand anything about politics or brainwashing (or religion as some call it).

If you start supporting a club and then become a bigot then there is a problem.

At the end of the day, your team is your team and i would imagine it is very difficult for anyone who has invested their time, money and affection to ditch or switch clubs no matter how much other fans do your head in.

The things other rangers fans may say or do should in no way reflect on No.8

The Rangers fans from the Glasgow area are more likely to be like no.8 and these are the ones who have the right to call themselves the true rangers fans.

  11. In a footballing sense... and this is afterall a forum whose raison detre is the beautiful game as opposed to say being for bankers... them going into liquidation isn't really the big deal in itself, I'd argue.

The big deal would be what happened next.

What happens to Ibrox and Murray Park.

Is a transfer-of-share attempted, and is so, does it prevail.

Is another club bought-up, or a brand-new club formed.

If ibrox is sold, Craig White will be due upto 23,000,000 due to the debenture he bought off lloyds with the ticketus money.

With a part of the stadium listed you couldn't really sell the stadium to build houses!

Part of the conditions for Murraypark was that planning permission would never be granted for turning Murray park into residential development.

  12. Nah, no news today - all a bit disappointing.

People are just speculating on the old 'if they get stripped of their trophies' thing due to the question mark over player registration. Lots of people are getting carried away with historic claims, but only those after 2001 could have relevance.

There's only a handful of us who were really cheated out of trophies we should rightfully have won.

no matter what though Hibs still wont have won the Scottish cup in Davie Weir's lifetime!
