19 year old Somerset wicketkeeper/batsman James Rew scored 221 against Hampshire in the County Championship today. It's his 5th ton plus score of the season and he is on to 952 runs, averaging 73.23, and he is now leading scorer in the first division.

One for the near future hopefully.

Unbelievable decision to keep bairstow for next test.  I'm convinced Stokes would turn down Gilchrist at his peak in favour of his mate.

  2. Delighted for Woakes and Wood.  Two genuinely good all round cricketers and decent guys who have both had a raw deal over the years, especially Woakes.

Now time to get Foakes in and play some proper cricket instead of the abomination that is Bazball.

There is a series available for the winning if they have the brains to play the way they should.  Nothing wrong with attacking cricket but you have to take cognisance of the match situation, the opponents bowlers and the pitch conditions.

Still to be updated with Broad's latest dismissal, but Atherton was helluva unlucky to face some top class bowlers.

The fact that Gooch had the purplest patch of his entire career against much the same era's best says a lot about just how good he was, and I've always thought Athers was a wee bit under-appreciated because openers didn't have it easy in the 90's and when those shitty England sides used to get pumped repeatedly, he was usually the only guy who still put up a fight regardless.

If you throw into the equation waqar and Wasim plus Donald and Pollock then Atherton faced some of the greatest bowlers going.

His average would be ten higher in a different era.  Also remember his crippling back issues meant to could no longer be as fluent or flexible at the crease.

    He was a top batsman.

Hands up I've been guilty of it - but it has been a while.

I think the past few years (and those that know me closely will know why) - have made me question more the misogynistic language that's casually used.

That's not to say I'm a saint - as you well know - but the one suspension I've had (and 2 warnings pts) were given for intemperate language not for using misogynistic language.

I won't continue this argument as we all know where that can end - another gender thread binfire.

    Sorry couldn't resist.

I reckon if you went through the history of all older long term posters in this site there will be language we all used that we wouldn't be comfortable with today.

    Times and attitudes change.

I think this post needs more than 1 green from me.

Thanks, I'm very humble, I took on this job (yes it's job) from @Cardinal Richelieu who put it out to tender.. Me, @Eednud & @Leeds Saint put our names forward, let's say everyone was thinking the mad man Slip can't do, he fucking mental.

After a few weeks, I took over, played the formation lets say. A solid 442 to stabilize the situation.

I introduced a POTM, which went well, which nobody really noticed.

Then a few folk called for change @Tynie Bagstock was asking for questions...

I threw a curve ball, the weekly cups.

This left the bottom thikos (me) with nothing...

I roll with the Diddy Cup.

I just look in life to improve for all, sometimes  I get I right, sometimes not.

    100% I'll do my best.

I just think, new ideas are needed, I'm be positive.

If you the crowd want me back give me until July until i'm settled in my new job and have routine.

    Long LIVE THE @Cardinal Richelieu

    Buddha loves you,  bunch c***s

Thanks @Insert Amusing Pseudonym you touched my heart.

I think you've done a magnificent job Slips and I'm sure I speak for us all when I say we'd love you to take over again in July.

The effort you put into the group was tremendous and we miss you doing it.

The weekly cups were a fantastic invention and kept everyone involved.

Thanks also to Edmund who also does a great job.

Slippy I am sure he will gladly pass the baton back to you in July.

Best wishes to you and your family.
