  1. Hopefully not.

I like him as a player but doesn't strike me as being assistant manager material. Slightly unfair to judge him on it but if I remember correctly our under 19 results weren't great last season and he's in charge.

No they weren't and he can't IMO read a football match. It's a No from me.

  2. I reckon losing Jacko is a bigger loss than some people may think. Murray may bring someone in, or may just stick with Mark Spalding but a senior player like McLaughlin, possibly not Prunty, may be an option.

Interesting that everyone was concerned about Murray moving to Edinburgh but it's Jack Ross who's now actually doing it. Good luck to him but as I've said before we need to get on with it.

  3. Donnelly is a strange one. He certainly seems to have fallen from grace pretty spectacularly over the past few seasons. It wouldn't be the most exciting signing by any means, but if Murray sees something in him then who am I to question that. I remember when we signed Lister how underwhelmed everyone (including me) was, and look how that turned out.

He saw something in Owen Ronald too

  4. Devil's Advocate...those 6 walk in fans may catch the bug like we all did and become regulars. Perhaps even future season ticket holders.

However, it doesn't excuse the fact that the club should have communicated this better, giving advance notice of an impending cap.

I see Alan & Simon have tried to put a positive spin on the official website. From the guys who know them better...is that their actual outlook or are they privately embarrassed and angry?

They can speak for themselves but my guess is that they are probably well used to it. There are many other issues on which the Trust has been able to lead the club down the path of common sense but this one exploded in their faces.

But there is a bigger and potentially more worrying picture here. Despite the fact that there is a Board in place two guys are effectively running DFC on behalf of the majority shareholder Brabco. At the behest of Brabco the same two guys are currently working on a plan to move the club to a new stadium. The season ticket situation has highlighted concerns with both judgement and communication, both of which are going to be of much greater importance in any stadium move. Attention levels will need to be high.

  5. I fully agree with this but if they do insist on having one (as ridiculous as it is) it should be 100 or less.

Feel like the good work done by the Supporters Trust is being totally undone by greed and terrible decision making outwith their control. I sincerely hope no one holds issue with them for this utter f**k up.

This is an incredibly important post, as for years now the Trust has been buffing the rough edges from many, many aspects of Dumbarton Football Club's affairs, and, it has to be said, at times in the face of some pretty churlish attitudes.

The Community Director can and probably will speak for himself, but due to a seeming reluctance on the part of DFC officials to engage with their public the Trust has for many people long become the 'voice' of the football club. No great problem in that per se, except that it helps to have both influence and information, and far too often that's not happening.

    People need to remember that.

  6. With only hours to go rangers hearts and hibs fans must be getting really excited at the thought of finding out when they are playing dumbarton. As long time championship members the sons will no doubt see of these pretenders to the title.

Indeed, but it seems that it's all really not going on down at The Rock right now. The continued eerie silence, punctuated only by birthday announcements on the OS, is beginning to get worrying.

  7. So, what are we to make of it all ? If Megginson signs is this a clear indication that Ian Murray will be staying, on the basis that Mitch (and perhaps others) may well want that to be the confirmed situation before committing to a new contract ? With the OS stuck on freeze-frame it's hard to know WTF is going on

  8. Genuine question. If Murray leaves how do you guys fancy your chances next season. He's done a remarkable job for you guys but i suspect he can't take you any further than last season.

It will be difficult whatever happens but for obvious reasons, not least continuity, it would be better if he were still in place at DFC. There will always be a limit to what clubs like Dumbarton and Cowden can ever achieve but gaining a fourth season in the Championship would still be great achievement for both of us.

What really bothers me is the timing of this current speculation; if it was during the season when a squad was fully in place then that would be one thing, but we are heading for pre-season with a need to add to a pretty basic (in all senses) list of signed players and everything now seems to be in a state of suspended animation awaiting Hibs' appointment. It's a worry.

  9. Played left-back away at Livingston for sure, think he also played against Morton (away) and a home game that I can't remember!

It doesn't now matter where he played, he's away as is Kane, end of. The job for Ian Murray continues to be to build a squad capable of competing on a very tight budget. I would imagine he's already looking at more loan deals.

  10. Maybe you're right. However with the timing and situation it would be a big gamble. I'm still not sure he'll be the man Hibs will go for.

I just heard Leanne Dempster quoted on the radio as saying that Hibs will 'take time' over the next appointment. If we take that at face value then Ian Murray should be hard at it building our squad for the coming season.

My own view is that he may be well advised to stay clear at this particular time; if Hibs don't go back up pronto then neither their fans or their Board is likely to be too forgiving. At the moment I see them third at best, unless they assemble a really good squad.

In terms of reputation he can afford at least another season with us, and presumably it's not as if managing Hibs is the only career option of interest to him.

Move along now Cowden, Falkirk folk, nothing to see here.

  11. Calm down everyone. As of now Ian Murray is still contracted as Dumbarton manager and until such times as that changes he should be busting a gut on our behalf - we don't pay him an insulting sum ;) as a matter of interest.

Football is full of twists and turns and this season is going to be hard whoever is in charge. If Murray goes we look to a similar type to replace him, but don't rely too much on the media being right about Hibs' new boss; Sellick's recent appointment was the Foinavon (Google it kids) of managerial appointments.

  12. Has anything else been said anywhere about increasing seating at the ground?

Well yes actually, the wummin on the Morrison's fish counter says it's all but dead in the water, apparently there are simply too many problems and too little financial return.

  13. Hugh Murray pre injury Aye

    Hugh Murray post injury Naw

For Shug Murray to make a decent contribution he needs a good pre-season under his belt. If that happens he can be a decided asset but I really hope both men have been honest in their discussion and expectations and we're not left with another Smith/McDougall type scenario nexst term.

  14. Aye the 'lets sign Monti' chat is up there with the 'lets sign Davie Crawford, Ryan McStay, Derek Caracary etc' chat.

Done absolutely nothing at this level. As Moonster pointed out Tommy Coyne managed to score about 50 a season at Pollok so that argument is rendered invalid.

  15. Alan Findlay's statement the other day on the DFC website included the following:

“Of course a small club and community like Dumbarton also has to operate within significant planning, logistical and financial constraints.

“Indications at this stage are that, with the best will in the world, it will be extremely difficult to make temporary stands for six games workable, legal and financially viable.

“But supporters can be assured that all possible avenues are being explored with the local council and with experienced contractors.

“As soon as a more definite statement can be made, the Club will do so.”

Knowing Alan, I'm sure he'll have checked his facts before posting that. Seems pretty clear and definitive. The problems in extending capacity are of a planning, logistical and financial nature. Those are what I understood to be the issues when I posted on the subject last month and it looks as if that is indeed the case.

Having spoken recently with the Chairman on this issue I'll be surprised if we manage extra capacity, due to a combination of factors not all of which are in DFC's control. There is also a tendency to make fag-packet financial calculations which are far from delivered in reality. Is there any point in bursting your ass for say £3 a head ?

Of course we should pursue the idea until it can't fly but remember that even without any expenses an additional 1500 bods @ £20 per head generates only £30K - hardly a massive sum.
