Well it looks like the end of the promotion chase for us now, it'd take an extraordinary sequence of results to keep us in it.

Today was a toss of the coin between the teams, Shotts edged it on a penalty kick that came out of nowhere, it was two very evenly matched teams.

Had we won our last three matches, it might still not have been enough for promotion, so I'm not downbeat tonight. Instead I'm pleased we have taken the promotion issue to the month of May, with a new management team and eleven new players at the start of the season.

We're going in the right direction, and it looks like the uneven playing field of the crazy money spenders are not going to be in our league next season, so we'll see how we compete next time.

Meantime, two home games to finish the season. Johnstone Burgh and Maybole. We could yet have a big say in what happens at the top and bottom of the table. Our friends along the road might be supporting us on 18th May.......

Given that it was our 4 game in 8 days I thought we done well considering the games schedule that we have had this week. All the teams had something to play for one looks like the winners of the league one looks like being promoted and 2 still have a mathematical chance yet of promotion don’t think there is a harder schedule than that and of course 2 of the teams have been well rested and only managing to play maybe one a week if they are lucky. You don’t have to spend crazy money to have a shout of promotion either but have faith in your management teams ability and show a bit of loyalty and give them time to build a challenging squad which I’m sure Willie H the boss and his committee will. Good luck for the rest of the season.

    A couple of points.

    1. Clubs should be told that there is 2 rounds of midweek fixtures to start the season to assist with planning at the end of the season

    2. Why are we playing the WOS Cup final this weekend. You know that you have a date to finish the league so why not wait until after then.

    3. As much as the 2 legged semi finals brought crowds and attention it cannot be allowed to happen again with the impact on the fixtures.

    4. There is also an impact at the bottom with the (unlikely) scenario that Glens might not be completely safe and know what they need to do.

Your points are all good points but there is no way you can tell how well clubs will do in cup ties or how the weather will be over the winter

point 1 you play some midweek games at start of season and get knocked out all the cups in the first round with no weather problems and your finished early

point 2 The west of Scot cup final is being played this weekend as it’s the only date that is safe for playing at Broadwood because the ladies teams play out of there and they presumably will have priority

point 3 The 2 leg semi finals are okay as long as you are not in other cups that are being played around the same time and you are involved in them also

point 4 It looks like if your club is successful in cup ties and get through to the later stages of all the cups you are punished for being successful

there is so many scenarios that change every season and not always the same clubs involved that it’s very hard for the fixture secretary to predict and with lots of restrictions on dates etc that are hampering the process. If you have an Astro facility for example most of your games will be on and if you have lights that would help also but then you have that the 2 teams have to agree any fixture swaps which doesn’t help either if a team has 3 games left and a team has 10 games why would the team with 3 agree to a swap and let the team with 10 games be forced to play 3 games in 7 days although there is some who would like teams to be playing Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday which in our new professional set up doesn’t make sense and there is nobody in the SPFL who would do it but that’s what some want senseless

The WOS playoff representative ,if there actually are any ,are not due to play their first fixture in the play offs until the 21st of May so there is no reason the league  season could not be extended for all clubs to bring them in line with Darvels final fixtures.

Only time will tell if common sense prevails.

Problem is solved some are wanting the clubs who still have games to play and need to catch up too play Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and so on till caught up it’s actually very laughable. I wonder what they would want if they had actually won their cup ties and got through to the latter stages of them all 🤔

  4. They say things even out over a season. But how can things like that even out. How on earth can an official give that second penalty from his position. What did he see that no one else saw? Managers , coaches , players lose there heads over things like that and as part of the Sfa disciplinary procedures get banned about saying things but it’s there for all to see not a club in Scotland would be happy if that is given against them and that’s just the second penalty. I seriously hope the official has a look at the great filming the David done of the game and learns from his mistake and general positional sense when making decisions or guessing whichever way you want to see it. One for the referees training development officer to look at 👀

Sitting having a coffee and with SOS and EOS definitely taking part the play-off, realised that I didn't know who ir how many clubs in the WOS Prem are licensed, so had a look.

Some interesting little facts I found out, I can be a total anorak about facts and figures.

EOS Prem has 11 licensed clubs, occupying places 1 to 11. So will be losing 3 non- licensed clubs. Their 1st Div has 8 with it looking likely all 3 promotion places will be licensed clubs. Only Whitburn can realistically finish in top 3, their facilities appear up to scratch, so they might be close if licensing was allowed.

Here in the SOS we have 5 licensed clubs in our Prem Div  😉. Top 3 places are licensed clubs. Just as well there is no relegation as bottom 2 clubs are licensed 😁.

In WOS 8 of the 16 are licensed, which considering West entered pyramid a few seasons after East Juniors and we had the 2 season covid nonsense, is pretty decent to be fair; will come to the SFA and their games in a bit.

Of the 8 one looks lost to Div 1, Medda, in Div 1 there are only 2 licensed clubs; Glencairn and the North Ayrshire Gers, both of whom are involved in promotion battle.

Across each league the number of licensed clubs shows up the problem with licensing at this stage.

EOS have 26 out of 61 clubs I think, Stirling Uni don't count. Here in the SOS we have a massive 5 out if 11, Stranraer SOS again are invisible.

In the WOS, it's 15 out of 80.

So how can the SFA allow a pyramid system where so many clubs are basically excluded from it?

And how can they expect the biggest section of the pyramid to be fully committed with this 'suspension' in place. I think we are all aware if Beith's challenges with their Licensing journey.

How many other clubs have been caught in this 'suspension net'.

There are a myriad of reasons why the SFA and others at the top of the pyramid are only paying lip service to the pyramid. If they care about grassroots football one jot, then either open up the pyramid to all the clubs or close the door and allow clubs, leagues, associations to decide if its worth being in the pyramid or not.

p.s. not looking to start a back door argument about juniors v seniors. Just think clubs have a right at upcoming agm's to discuss points like these and give their association a mandate to at least approach the SFA and ask questions. The SFA have acted like a dictatorship for too long, hold them to account

Another long winded post from that horse pest from doon Sooth. I'm bored waiting on the vet arriving. 🙂🙂

Very good detailed explanation and some detail of why the pyramid system is flawed. The Sfa wanted a Wosfl to balance out there structure. I don’t think they expected the volume of clubs to all move over but clubs were reluctant to not move incase they were left out. Then came the obstacles slowly being put in place regarding promotion and relegation etc, criteria for promotion , licences required etc the list goes on and I’m 100% certain it’s not finished at that yet. Then you have the low and league letting clubs buy into their league how is that fair and sporting integrity when they can’t be promoted and it stops others from genuine promotion. It is the correct to have a pyramid system but not under the current way it works

I get that - the congestion is far from ideal but I'm not sure it's going to lead to anything more serious than a lot of games in a short period of time.

Players welfare for starters they have day jobs as well. Trying to recover and rest from previous games. If the league want to be professional then it needs to be correctly addressed for all clubs for this senario happening. It happened last year and league was extended it might not suit all understandably but that is not the answer

A bit over the top, no? It's a bit of fixture congestion, not an invitation to fight to the death.

There has now been another 2 games postponed on 22nd April and 24 th April to allow the semi final to be played. League has to be finished on 11 th May when are the 2 games  going to be fitted there is no spare dates. What if Shotts happened to beat Darvel final is on 28th so game on 27th possibly would be postponed and possibly the 30th as well🤷‍♂️

  8. It would appear that if you get a good run in the cups it impacts on your league game scheduling. The problem is any postponements and a run in cups causes the fixture secretary problems as most teams will need to sit and wait to play the same team. Where the current rules don’t work is if the fixture secretary doesn’t issue a fixture and a club with a few games to catch up on and they have a team to play with maybe only 2 games left and they want to bring forward a game both teams need to agree to the fixture change and that is not helpful. We now have health and players wellbeing to respect and also remember that these are part time players who have work commitments. SPFL teams don’t have the fixture scheduling that some of Wosfl teams have. This is a very important issue that needs to be seriously addressed before god forbid there is a serious incident.

  9. If as suggested that Alex McDowell is anti pyramid which I don’t think is true he is maybe just be realistic about it. Most clubs I think wanted a pyramid system in place so they could go as far as they could if they wanted and had the finances to do so. The problem is a lot higher up than that. Do the sfa and the clubs in other tiers really want to be challenged by clubs coming up through a proper pyramid system ? I’m not so sure they move the goalposts and change the criteria every year to suit their own agendas and protect themselves. The league set up was a carve up right from the start so the sfa could have a more regional set up under its umbrella as there was no west set up previously and now it’s more aligned to their needs of working. George Fraser was set up when the league was being formed right at the start their has been a few false promises although I still think the pyramid system is the correct model but there needs to be more alignment with promotions and relegation no deals or obstacles in the way

It has no major commercial tenant after Clyde left. It's a stadium that knows how to handle crowds lucky to break 100 into the thousands. Broadwood suddenly becoming the primary venue for finals for the SJC, SCC, and WOSFL has nothing to do with them being nice. It ticks all the boxes required and relatively cheap.

All ticket will cut back on the Darvel clickers which will save money. The luminous working jackets can be returned to the Darvel village museum

I’m not so sure it’s a cheap option based on the costs involved to host a recent final that was played there.

I don't think the argument you're pre-empting (i.e. trying to stir up) is going to happen, mate. 😬

I ain’t stirring it up when the postponed games are re arranged we will see if there is any comments then about games being altered

  12. Before anybody says it. The games that are all off today are because of the weather not because it’s Scottish cup so before any arguments start.
With the next 2 weeks also cup ties scheduled the headaches begin for Kenny in the first week in October.
