I sadly couldn't make it down to the Trust meeting last night but I hear a lot of interesting things being discussed. Will there be minutes/a run down sent out to members?

Just to confirm that the minutes of last night's AGM will be circulated to all Trust members in the next week or so

  2. First half was a fairly eye-bleeding watch in admittedly difficult conditions.  Would not have said that Finlay Gray and Mikey Ruth were rubbish, but they weren't very good either!  Second half was much better and it was a comfortable win in the end.

Have to fear for Bonnyrigg now.  Never laid a glove on us the whole game.  As others have said, no lack of effort but a serious lack of quality for this level.

Mark Durnan MOTM for me.  Had he and Brett Long avoided injury I'm sure it would have been a much closer title race this season, but them's the breaks.

Was great to have a chat before the match with a Sons stalwart of the mid sixties, Jimmy Veitch.  Into his eighties and still looking in great shape.  Follows the Rose nowadays, but remembers his time at Boghead with great affection.

Anyone who was there yesterday how did Calum Wilson get on in his first start?

Considering it was his first competitive game in nearly a year, he did fine.  Played wide right, but not there to beat his full back and get crosses in.  He was neat and tidy on the ball and put in a shift, carrying out his defensive duties well.

  4. Watched the game as a neutral following the (far too)  late call-off at Peterhead.  Forfar were clearly the better team, but no cutting edge at all in the final third. No surprise that their goal was scored by their central defender following a corner kick.

Stranraer deserve some credit for hanging in there and managing to score with their only shot on target in the whole game.  Marc McCallum must have been suffering from frostbite at full-time!

Aye all these youngsters concerned about having to sit next to a couple of Rangers fans. They should have been around when we played them at Boghead. 16,000 in the ground, the vast majority Rangers fans, and we still managed to change ends at half time.

At least if the game goes ahead at the Rock we won't have VAR, or phone-a-friend as I believe The Rangers call it😀

I was getting regular texts from half-time onwards and by God that was torture.   Apparently at 4-3 down Aidan Smith hit the post with a header and that would have been lights out.  However, what resilience we showed and that's great too see with two really tough league games coming up.  It's great to be able to look forward to the draw (until we land up at Kirkcaldy).

I'm also delighted to see Jinky Hilton getting on the scoresheet and by all accounts it was a cracker, but Ross McLean getting booked for a needless dive in the box wasn't so clever.  But well done Sons and safe journey to all who travelled.

Oh, and don't consult @Jan Vojáček or @BallochSonsFan for the lottery numbers.

Never one to criticise referees OKIII, but that was a stonewall penalty.  To add insult to injury, the ref booked McLean.

An unforgettable match right enough.  Thought Greg Fleming was going to break our hearts, but class prevailed.  Only downside was our struggle to deal with corner kicks and long throw-ins.  Quite pleased that Tommy Goss was AWOL today

Think I mentioned this earlier. No connection with Andy or any other Hosie. I never heard of Hosie a month ago.

Thanks for clarifying.  In fairness to Sons fans on here, there will be two things that spooked them about a possible Hosie connection:

    1.  Residence in the North West of England

    2. An apparent similarity between the company Sure Bets Pro Ltd., of which yourself and partner Rachel are Directors; and a company called Bet Butler (prop. A Hosie), which collapsed in 2015 with debts of £7m+ and resulted in AH being banned from being a Director of any company for 12 years for serious misconduct..

No relationship with any Hosie I had not heard of the Hosies a month ago. Everyone I have met has been first class and seem to absolutely have the best interests of the club at heart. I wouldn’t have gotten involved if I thought otherwise.

    Paul,

Thanks for your replies   Just to be clear, were you at the Bonnyrigg match on Saturday with Andy Hosie?

"Leverage cutting-edge technology" just what the f**k is that all about. It's league 2 not cyber warfare. Fairly sure Stirling won the league by having a better and more consistent team than us, rather than a massive R&D advantage.

Technology, internet and fan engagement being so close together absolutely stinks of NFTs as well. I'm fairly sure it won't be that... Well hoping anyway.

Mr McPherson is also a Director of a Company called Sure Bets Pro Ltd.  A company that tells you how to beat the bookies through the best arbitrage and matched betting software....................now hang on a minute, I seem to recall a former company offering something similar,  Bet Waiter maybe,  or was it  Bet Butler?😉

@O'Kelly Isley III do you know what number the current Trust membership is at?

Currently 241.  Renewal notices for 2023/24 going out soon.  Rarely been a more important time to be a Trust member.  If you have any Sons supporting friends who are not members or perhaps lapsed members, please encourage them to join.

Not much been said after the Trust AGM the other night. I had hoped to make it down but sadly couldn't, does anyone have a brief summary of the discussion points?

A comprehensive Minute of the AGM will issue to Trust members next week.  For non-members, now would be a very appropriate time to sign up!

That remains one of the best Sons goals I've ever seen.  The Big Man told me exactly the same as yourself, and I'm sure the Saints left-back was Iain Munro, with Danny Stevenson the keeper.  I always respected Iain Munro for such a sporting act.

Marking Roy that day was a young Gordon McQueen, the future Scottish internationalist. St Mirren scored a late equaliser courtesy of Willie Borland, who signed for the Sons a couple of years later.

I appreciate that's Faz's character, but this is a Trust AGM and the matters discussed should be in regards to the Trust and the future of DFC. The current playing squad isn't really relevant to that and I would rather this didn't turn into a meet the manager session - we need to get the stuff with our owners clarified and preferably an action plan for the Trust going forward.

I agree the chairman and our owners have questions to answer and should do so in a similar forum, but I agree with TFF that I don't think his presence helps or is required at a Trust AGM. It's likely he will be the topic of much of the discussion.

Just to be clear on this.......we have set aside two hours for the meeting tomorrow evening.  The first hour or so will be solely for Trust AGM business and there will be no discussion of the current situation on the park.  At the close of AGM business there will be a short interval during which I hope members present will avail themselves of the bar facilities.  The Trust Board are grateful that this facility has been made available to us.

The second part of the evening will be a discussion with the Team Manager on football matters.  When the Trust Board decided some weeks ago that we should press ahead with holding an AGM towards the end of March, we approached Stevie Farrell to ask if he would like to take the opportunity to speak to and answer questions from Trust members.  Our thinking was that this would be a factor in encouraging members to attend.  It goes without saying that in the intervening period results on the park have been most disappointing. Out of courtesy, we approached Stevie Farrell last Sunday to ascertain if he still wished to come along to the meeting.  He confirmed that he is happy to do so.

Don’t know about any other sons fans there today but I certainly enjoyed it. Worth it for the stoppage time alone

As always, a very enjoyable trip to Montrose. Pleasant train journey up the east coast, an afternoon in the fresh air watching the footie, a seat on the couch in the Park Hotel to watch the Calcutta Cup match on a big screen, followed by a fine fish tea in Adam's Shack.  Just the job!

As for the match itself.......no argument that at this point in time the Gable Endies are a better team than the Sons.  Their passing game is easy on the eye and they always have a clear pattern to their play.  No surprise that they are virtually guaranteed a Championship play-off spot at least, while we are struggling to avoid the League One version.. On yesterday's evidence though they lack a reliable goal scorer and that was the only reason they didn't take all three points.

For the Sons, our new keeper's handling was very assured, though I can't recall him having a serious save to make (see above). Some brave and resolute defending, in particular from Buchanan and Bronsky, also Paton and Carswell in their defensive roles.   Going forward...dearie me! The fact that with the wind at our backs in the second half we didn't force the Montrose keeper into a single save, nor manage one corner in the entire match, probably says it all!

On to some of the more partial posts on the match thread.  Yes, in the last ten minutes or so we overdid the timewasting tactics.  Very frustrating for the team on top and their fans as I know from the boot being on the other foot.  However, "appalling time wasting tactics for the entire second half" - behave yourself!  And as others have noted, the referee added on some eight minutes of stoppage time.

On Stuart Carswell's trip on Paul Watson.: "Great wipe out tackle. Great attempt to win the ball".  Indeed, on a par with Terry Masson 'taking out Kalvin Orsi off the ball during a rare Sons breakaway.  Orsi's participation the game over and Masson sensibly substituted by Stewart Petrie before play restarted.  Stonewall yellow card for Carsy, unfortunately if the victim then has a kick at the offender, there can only be one outcome,.

Couple of random thoughts.  Watching Cammy Ballantyne close up yesterday reminded me how disappointed I was that we couldn't keep him at the Rock. Very good player at this level and I'm sure he would be very effective in the Championship too.

Given that Ross Mclean is our most effective forward (at least when he's concentrating on the football and not moaning at the officials), I hope his injury isn't too serious and we see him back in action soon.

To be fair, I don’t recall anyone saying that. I think those of us who remembered  John Hosie and his immense contribution to Dumbarton FC from the 1950s through the 60s and 70s thought initially, that his son and grandson might be people who had DFC at heart. John Hosie was “Secretary” of the club but he was in fact much more than that. He was CEO, Human Resources Officer and Director of Football. He was also repair man, janitor and floor sweeper. I knew him personally and he was a determined, focussed and often grumpy wee man. He was in charge at the club during its most successful years (by far)  of the 20 the century. Under normal circumstances, one might think that a grandson of such a person might not be a bad guy to be involved - particularly with his uncle having served the club well too. Many clubs have had successive generations involved in admin and ownership. In the clear majority of cases that has meant sons and grandsons honouring family tradition and trying to act in the best interests of that club. I think many of us hoped that would be the case at Dumbarton.

Can only echo what Wilf has said about John Hosie.  A well-respected figure throughout Scottish football, who made an immense contribution to Dumbarton FC.  His son is also a Sons man through and through, who has served the Club well for many years.  As for John's nephew...........sadly that's a different story!

My memory is it was a second strip (used at home, not away; in those days the home team in Scotland changed strip  - and then only if there was a colour clash) for that one season in the black and gold stripes era until it became the main strip around 1969.

You are correct. The photo must have been taken before a home game  against one of Alloa, Berwick Rangers, East Fife or Albion Rovers.

I agree with @The Moonsteron this. It painfully obvious colt teams aren’t wanted. Why waste time making the questionnaire. Surely easiest thing to do would be “if you want colt teams on the league email us”

Don't think it will be painfully obvious at all to a DFC Board with four new directors, none of whom I suspect will have, until now at least, any knowledge/ interest in the views of Scottish football fans.  So very important that our supporters spare a minute or so of their time to complete the questionnaire.

I was sad to hear of the passing of the captain of our 71-72 Championship winning side, Jack Bolton. A big centre half of the old school. He was 79.

Very sad news. Remember thinking that when he signed from Raith Rovers for £5,000 back in 1970, the Club were serious about ending our 50 odd years of languishing in the lower reaches of the then SFL.  Went on the play a pivotal role in the 1971-72 Championship winning side, particularly as I recall in the last four crucial games of the season, when nerves were starting to affect some of the younger players.

On December 5th 1964 we drew 4-4 with Berwick in an astonishing game in which I'm sure we came from 0-4 down, culminating with a very late Chic Halliday penalty equaliser.

My memory might be playing tricks but I'm pretty certain we wore the white strip that day, one of its first outings.

You're correct OKIII! Had forgotten about poor old Berwick Rangers since their sad demise. I remember the 4v4 game well. 0v4 down midway through the second half, then a double from Drew Nelson, goal by Tommy Reynolds and last minute penalty from Chic Halliday rescued a point. A memorable match in an otherwise mediocre season.
