  1. In any case, I'm not sure the thing that was hinted at will even be in the TV series.

I was actually just thinking that there. The first series was identical to the story from the books, but as the series have gone on, more and more changes have been made.

FWIW, it's not a crazy, surprising spoiler. In the books you could see it coming.

  2. Not to put too much of a dampener on the GOT love in but GRRM hasn't written a good book in 13 years, I don't think that's going to change any time soon. He spends way too much time doing anything but writing. Read Joe Abercrombie, he treats his readers with respect and he's been highly prolific recently compared to GRRM......Scott Lynch is also 'similar' but he has also had issues with his writing speed, he has a valid excuse though as he's clinically depressed.

I'm shit-feart that Martin is going to kick it before he gets the rest of the books finished. The man's old as f**k, and a fat b*****d as well.

Apparently he has told the show's directors/producers/writers how he is planning to end the story in case that does happen, so we should have the series at least.

  3. Mario Puzo's 'The Sicilian'

The novel is a follow up to 'The Godfather', based on the latter part of Michael Corleone's time spent in Sicily after killing Sollozzo and the police chief in the preceding book. Michael is tasked by his father with trying to bring an outlaw from the island home to America. The book switches between present day (1950) and the story of the earlier life of the bandit, Salvatore Giuiliano, who is based on a real person of the same name ( http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvatore_Giuliano ).

It's an absolutely cracking read and one of my favourite ever books, although I must admit I am a massive fan of Puzo and The Godfather (book/films). It fills in a bit of a gap in the original story which I felt was maybe rushed over a little. It also gives a brilliant insight into the history of Sicily itself, with its crippling poverty and the struggle of its citizens to deal with the oppression of the mafia and from Rome itself.

    10/10 from me
