I was at RAF Cosford on a training course that day in the Airframes training hangar. The crew room was just packed with everyone watching it on a 28" CRT TV not knowing what was going on.
The alert state went up and only those who lived off base were allowed to go home. The station guard was increased and the bars closed that evening. It was very quiet, almost eerie walking round the base that night.

Bad news for white van owners in England.
Does this mean we should see a reduction in random paint drops, small stone patterns, tied ribbons and chalk markings?

At Auchmuty High School in the early 90's we had this older history teacher, he was a typical loud, opinionated old style type.
One of the things we used to do was ask him a question that would hit one of trigger points so he would rant for the rest of the period. He was loud and rant but once you got past the bluster he seemed OK.
All this was fine until one day he just wasn't there, usual rumours were about that he was ill, he had died due to his great age or what someone in their late 50's/early 60's seemed to us. Not one of the teachers would tell us what had happened.
Fast forward a few weeks and an article appeared in the Daily Record that he, alongside others, was involved in a rentboy ring and got convicted on charges relating to that as well sodomy etc. Needless to say that questions to teachers about what rent boys and sodomy were not welcome.

Not into Moto GP either, but I randomly watched that happen live. For someone like Rossi to be sitting in the pits afterwards looking like he'd shit his entire body weight into his pants, you know it was a bad one.
But that's a pretty cool slow mo of it all the same. Inches in it.
Such is my knowledge of motorbike racing!

James are a big football band with the members being quite vocal in their support for various teams particularly Tim Booth and his love for Leeds. He's also close friends with Gordon Strachan who often appears in the crowd at their Scottish concerts.
They were also supposed to write the official England World Cup 1994 song with a version of Low Low Low being renamed Goal Goal Goal but needless to say England didn't qualify.

I would have put TSM on the list but only played it on the C64

I personally like shouting out "COVID test" when I let one rip in the house to see if they can smell the aroma of roses and lavender!

Also curious to see what bikes people have? I'm currently still jumping about in a 300 quid Carrera Subway One rigid Hybrid which has been great for me, got it serviced yesterday so I'm in no rush to change it yet but I'll likely be giving it to my son at some point and get myself something better. Only last week I done a 55km run out in it in 1h 59mins and 59secs! average speed of 27.5km so I get some good speed out of it but I'm hoping that something a bit lighter with a better gear ratio might let me get some higher speeds.
Talking of average speeds, according to Strava I've clocked the fastest time between Bonnybridge lifting bridge and the Kelpies this year
I’m using either my mountain bike, a Merida Big 9 a bit more these days or my good road is a Cannondale SuperSix with Ultegra Di2 and I’ve got a lovely set of Campagnolo Bullets on them. I’m not spending any more on wheels in case they are damaged due to the road surface conditions.

I have two songs for definite as they have been constants in my life since I’ve heard them and they mean a lot to me.
Pixies - Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf Mix), it has to be that one as the tempo suits the mood as I go through the curtains.
James - Sometimes. My favourite song and I want it played as people go in.
For a third one, it changes dependent on the day but for now I’d happily settle for Bruce Springsteen and Thunder Road.
No religious songs or sentiments thank you.

Here's a light pollution map - basically get away from built-up areas to begin with https://www.lightpollutionmap.info/#zoom=9&lat=7574228&lon=-378347&layers=B0FFFFFTFFFFFFFF
Thanks Ginaro, I’m hoping between being up in Aberdeenshire during the week and back in Fife at the weekend I might be able to get some shots in.

Here’s a satellite shot which tells you that Fife is not exactly the best place for dark skies, maybe Tentsmuir or thereabouts would be worth a try.
Here’s one I took on the way back from Palmerston watching ICT the other week, at the Devil’s Beef Tub. I left the car lights in deliberately, to light up the hillside, although some folk might have left them out. Dark as f**k down there and one car every 10 mins.
Thank you! What a great shot there, I love that photo. What settings did you use for that?
I’m up in Aberdeenshire this week so will try heading up the Bennachie if I get the chance.

I’m fairly new to photography and have started trying to get some nice night time star shots. Can anyone recommend any good areas in Fife suitable for dark sky type shoots?

I did the Dundee Cyclathon for the first time today. 26 miles around the Green Circular route, starting and finishing at Camperdown Park.
It was a decent day out. A bit difficult to get going initially because the route is really narrow so everyone bunches up. But once it opened up onto short bits of normal roads it was easy to get a bit of momentum going. Absolute b*****d of a hill at the end - Harestane Road/Laird Street for anyone who knows the area. It’s just one of those hills that keeps going and going.
A bit of a hairy moment on the way home as well. There’s a downhill out of Camperdown that leads straight onto a road. I hadn’t realised when I got to the bottom that I was already near-enough full on my brakes. Quick decision to make...decided that I couldn’t hear any traffic so just go for it. Thankfully the closest cars in either direction were far enough away to not be an issue (it’s not the busiest road anyway). When I stopped, I checked my brakes and you could have fried an egg on them (disc brakes). I don’t think there’s anything wrong with them, just a speed miscalculation. But a definite OYF moment
I did it with my 9 year old today and not knowing the Green route I took my good road bike fitted with the carbon wheels, bit of an eye opener and I didn’t think it was as family friendly as they were advertising. Some of the route was questionable for younger riders.
Statts Jnr was a bit disappointed after doing the closed roads Wee Jaunt last week but understood that it was a charity event run by volunteers.

I have to say that aside from the sad news following yesterday’s event, I really enjoyed it. I got across in about three hours as well, which I’m quite chuffed with.
its fun riding on closed roads - never done that before. Slight bummer that it finishes so far outside the city of Edinburgh itself - a city centre finishing line would have been quite fun.
Shame that that’s the last one - whetted my appetite for more events like that. Any suggestions of similar ones to try?
The Etape Caledonia is good but I think Etape Loch Ness is the best one. You can always try PoppyScotland in a couple of weeks that’s supposed to be good.

I did the Wee Jaunt yesterday with my son, he was quite chuffed that he knocked 6 minutes off of last year’s time, and was disappointed in a couple of things. I knew the last stretch going into RHS was going to be rough but it seemed to be worse than ever, I didn’t get a puncture but my son did. The other thing that annoyed me was groups of cyclists and joggers heading the opposite way on the closed roads.
I’m a bit sad to see it go as it was a good event for families so I hoping that the other events that they say they are going to concentrate on next year will fill the gap.

Looking for some info from the group. I suffered a TIA a week ago and have been signed off for a few weeks to recover so I'm planning some long overdue projects to tide me over the winter and need some information.
1. I'm wanting to update my SuperSix and I'm wanting to get it resprayed or powdercoated, does anyone know of somewhere that is reliable and of a good reputation that would do this?
2. I've got an old Reynolds framed Raleigh Team Banana that I want to restore. I've not decided whether to fit it with modern gear or keep it retro but once again it's the frame I need help with. I've Googled it but can't seem to find the original paint colour scheme details, I'd like to keep the paint job as close to the original as possible.
Thanks all!
