Chi Onwurah (MP) just asked if it would save time to hold an inquiry into whether Johnson has ever told the truth.

Suella Braverman calling Emily Thornberry a Leninist in the HofC today, feck me I thought that I’d fallen through the looking glass, real parallel dimension stuff. What are these people smoking?

When I worked for a short time in IBM after leaving uni in the early 90s, there was a woman who allegedly wore the same pair of tights for the week - she was known as ....... the empress ming.

Yes, with a stoical nature I read the whole lot. Enjoyed the first part, with the boys breaking into the ball game but it was a no from me.

Underworld by Don DeLillo - did not enjoy this at all. A rambling, sprawling mess that got nowhere slowly, not the "Great American Novel" as promised on the cover. 2/10
Now onto "The Young Team" by Graeme Armstrong.

Kudos for using the word plamf - not heard that used in anger for decades.

Saw " The Many Saints of Newark" on Sunday night, good addition to the Sopranos story. Only gripe would be that the New Jersey police didn't seem interested in the various murders/running gun battles in the street. Still a solid 7/10 and it was good to be back in the cinema.

Never met the guy. By the time I worked there he had no involvement in the place. As far as I recall he retained ownership but leased the pubs out because it was easy money with far less hassle at that stage. The only place he seemed really involved with was Oran Mor.
A couple of older relatives grew up in Yoker/Knightswood and knew him from school onwards. They would probably agree with his son, though I get the impression there was a huge element of something mentioned earlier in the thread, that if you were in business with the legitimate side you couldn’t meet anyone nicer and more helpful, but if your dealings were on the other side, it was street rules. I think he stuck to that “Moral code” quite well, and he done what he could to make sure his people done the same.
Worked with a guy who used to valet cars for him in the 70s, interesting stories of cleaning copious amounts of blood from the back seats when they were collecting money lending debts, he also found a few finger tips (allegedly)

I used to give my youngest dog's abuse for using scissors, lo and behold we go to Rome on holiday and the first pizza place we go to scissors are used. She has dined out on this for some years now.

Harold Wilson - kept us out of Vietnam despite pressure from the good old boys in the White House. A low bar admittedly but no body bags is a good thing.
