  1. Treadmills aren’t great for longer runs or extended use in my experience, I tend to just do a couple of miles on them a week to try and improve my road pace.

This article explains why you get shin splints and other injuries from a treadmill more often than road running and suggests increasing the incline.

The compression knee length socks helped me out, I got them in Lidl for a few pound.

Not sure if this sites been pointed out before but it’s quite handy for self diagnosis / treatment tips.

    Assuming you’re not a hypochondriac.

Cheers for that - will definitely look into investing in a cheap pair of compression socks and see if increasing the incline helps.

  2. Anyone got decent advice on shin splints? Recovery methods any specific gear I can wear on that area which might help?

Fairly new to running and I was doing 2-3k a night in the gym until this flared up, now I'm lucky to get through the first 1k without having to pull up. It's extremely frustrating.

  3. Got my induction at gym next week. Needing advice really on what's best in terms of kit. Basically decent suggestions will be appreciated.

I'm also back into walking trying to do between 3 and 5 miles a day just now

Kit wise the only things to blow money on for the gym is your trainers. Make sure they are fitted properly and comfortable.

The rest, get yourself to Sports Direct and pick up some baselayer tops and undershorts as well as ankle socks. Then it's just a mix and match for shorts and t-shirts.

    Avoid - vests, short-shorts and T-shirts with 'hilarious' pictures/slogans.

  4. Relatives who every single year, force themselves into my house to "celebrate" Christmas. It stresses out my mum out something rotten and is completely unfair for us to have to continually foot the bill for "Christmas Dinner". It's a fucking joke. Everyone else has big houses so size isn't an issue for them hosting. There was plans for it to be held in Edinburgh, which seem to have been deliberately dingied in favour of coming to ours. :thumbsdown

Anyone with a contagious disease currently? If so I'll pay for your services to plague me with this illness so I can have a Christmas time where I can just have some peace and quiet and get hideously drunk throughout the day.

Christmas Day has always been round at my parents place. But usually relatives will foot the bill for different parts of the day. So one relative will supply all the wine, another will bring the spirits and mixers along, One set of grandparents would do deserts and the other all the starters leaving my parents to do the main part of the meal and not having to pay for everyone to be fed and watered on the day.

Seems the best way of doing it.

  5. Aye I work in a supermarket part time.

A big chain? Have you applied for any of the Supermarket graduate schemes (might seem an obvious one).

I suppose it's not a bad way to keep earning some FT cash while looking for a job if you can get the hours - a lot of my friends worked in Sainsbury's during and then after Uni while the job hunted, most of them seemed to enjoy it enough as a stop-gap.

  6. Aye it's brutal, the amount of shitey online personality tests I've had to fill out to see if I'm "the right fit" is ridiculous. I'm just panicking that I'll end up having to move home again once I graduate next year as I won't be able to find anything.

In my 4th and final year of a Business and Marketing course, and sitting comfortably in 2.1 territory. I'll have a look about for recruitment agencies, as I reckon these will be pretty much the only way to get into SMEs, saving for handing out CVs one by one. Filling out those graduate recruitment forms is an absolute shiter considering how much other work I've got on my plate just now.

Have you had any p/t jobs while at Uni or in the holidays? Should probably mention at this point I work in recruitment.

  7. Does anyone have any advice on applying for graduate jobs? I was at the SECC graduate fair today and it all seems a bit daunting. I should probably have went to the careers advice desk but spent the full time talking to employers, and got a bit carried away at Hewlett-Packard as the bird was a looker.

Prepare for a lot of rejections. It's a brutal process applying for grad jobs and you may well have to take an absolute shitter of a position as a stop-gap.

  8. Got two for today;

    1) I've been waiting 6weeks to receive a mark for my postgraduate dissertation, when the dept handbook promised I'd have it back "within 5weeks"

    2) I'm "between levels" on FIFA14, meaning I can't get a decent competitive game. I'm either beating people 5-0 or getting gubbed 8-0.

Heard it is just the ones that pass who get their marks back within 5 weeks.

    Nae luck.

  9. I did shite at school (should have got straight A's). Managed to squeeze into uni. Got a 2:1 (poor me). I am now a fully qualified accountant and hopefully about to get a job in the oil industry where I will get a 20k pay rise.

Nae bad for someone with 2:1.

Im also not a virgin :-p

    Doing what for who?
