I absolutely agree with you on this. But 5k? That’d be f***in right!

Space limitations aside, I genuinely don’t think the club has the money.

3,000/3,500 would be perfect. More than enough for the overwhelming majority of games. Supply very, very occasionally outstripping demand. Even in the event of the top flight, it’d be enough. Occasional tears about tickets from opponents, but who cares?

If we were ever promoted, the Hampden question would become contentious. A national association basically giving a team that couldn’t build their own ground an enormous sporting advantage by allowing them to rake in ticket dosh. You’re talking a seven figure sum from less than a handful of fixtures. Taking a step back and being objective, it would not look good. It’s just such a frustrating corner to have put ourselves in.

I'm not sure how much of an impact 'fan power' could really have but I do wonder if the most recent statement from the club is due to feeling pressure from supporters from forums such as this regarding playing staff.

The more pressure that supporters can put on the club to sort the mess around Lesser Hampden to get it into a state that is appropriate for a club at Championship level with aims to reach the Premiership then hopefully we might see some movement on that which I feel has stalled for the past year.

I don't personally mind games at 'big hampden' but I think the best thing for the club going forward would be a lesser hampden with circa 5k capacity that would then provide an excellent atmosphere and environment for football.

As a strategy, Hampden works if it’s permanent. We hold none of the cards to make that the case and we all remember what happened the last time we relied on the goodwill of the SFA. We have to treat this as temporary or the custard pie in the chops is inevitable down the line.

I’m not particularly worried about the here and now. We’re back in the Southside and slowly seem to be getting our act together. It’s precarious, though. I’ll be quite blunt and say the one stand that has been built at Lesser is a complete embarrassment. It’s absolutely terrible in terms of capacity, viewing and being able to create any atmosphere.

I don’t actually know how we could build a decent stadium without levelling the whole place, including royal box, recently built stand and JB McAlpine. There’s no world in which that’s happening, though. What we do need is a contingency plan if the rug is pulled. Laying the groundwork to build a support and being left without a suitable stadium would be a disaster.

any idea why not? - have we promised it to Celtic under 9's?

Think it’s just the deal with the SFA. This is still a huge problem for us down the line. The Hampden deal won’t be forever and we’re going to have to have a plan in place and ready to move when it does come to an end, because it almost certainly will.

New Tinto Park  has no seats and is uncovered except for a glorified bus shelter that might accommodate 100 folk (about 25 of whom could actually see the game) - surely a good opportunity to utilise the City Stadium and generate some local interest - and income)

Not happening, as I understand it. Unless we’re paying to have somewhere else done up, it’s difficult to see how the team will be playing locally. Lesser Hampden really is a vacuum of missed opportunity in every conceivable way.

Interesting! McKinstry was signed by the previous regime, but that does make me wonder if we might offer him another (short-ish term) deal.

He's been awful for the most part, but a full pre-season under his belt might make a difference. It was clear we were meant to be a stepping stone but I doibt clubs will be queuing up for his signature now.

I think he’ll get a deal, reading between the lines in Davidson’s end of season review. Motherwell fans seemed to rate him, and he showed a couple of fleeting glimpses in the latter stages of the season. If the folk who see him every day think he’s worth a punt, then fair enough.

Some players are slow burners. Wouldn’t have believed Thomson would develop into the player he has after the first few months. Not played a lot of first team football in his career, which is maybe something it’s tough to take into account as a punter. Our expectations, mine included, were maybe a wee bit high.

I actually wouldn't want him anywhere near our team. He strikes me as being the disruptive sort, not particularly good as a team player and not what is needed for a good dressing room spirit.

In regards to other posters comments about players celebrating in front of away fans as a bit of shithousery I'm all in favour of it. However that's 2 occasions now where this single brain celled simpleton has chosen to try and goad opposition support with,

    1. His absolutely pathetic t-shirt display to a group of children who had no clue what he was doing and

    2. Double handed sticking 2 fingers up to opposition fans. I was astonished that the ref chose not to book him given it was also in front of the stand side lino.

Coupled with his later booking for what looked like lining up a kick out at a player on the deck he could easily have been sent off and landed you lot right in it, in what was a very important game for you. So no, not the sort of idiot we need thank you.

  7. Will fly under the radar a wee bit, but Paul Nuijten’s role in keeping us up shouldn’t go unrecognised. Survived by one point and he picked up two really important Hampden results when morale and form were down the lavvy. Hope he sticks around, but if he moves on he’ll certainly have played his part in avoiding catastrophe.

I just hope we don’t go down the route of playing on a Friday…hated it when we played a lot last year. Saturday 3pm is the best time for football

I don’t mind it as much when we’re not playing thirty miles away. Best atmospheres this season have probably been on a Friday night, but broadly agree that Saturday at 3pm should be the time.

  9. That felt important last night in the context of our medium/long term future both on and off the park. As good a night as we’ve had at a notoriously difficult stadium to get anything going. Even in the locality, you could tell there was a game on. Chanting in the Florida Park after the game and a few scarfs in Ryan’s for the 1am finish. Feels like we’re slowly making inroads in terms of building a support and even just passing interest, where previously a lot of folk forgot we even existed. Really excited to see what next season brings.

It's important to me. All of our players need to acknowledge the fans more. Much more.

On a related note, I'm perfectly aware of the abuse Paton has been getting from Airdrie fans this season but I was furious when he chose to taunt them after scoring yesterday, rather than running towards us and celebrating his goal, in a home game. I know there are very few of us, but that doesn't mean we simply don't exist.

Don’t agree with this. I don’t even know if I’d even like football if this sort of shithousing didn’t exist 😀

  11. We have been dreadful at home. Three wins in seventeen, two of them against Arbroath. Inverness also honking at home, but we have to work on the assumption that they’ll win and take care of our own business. I like Links Park, but I’d rather not be heading up there on Tuesday night.

I have absolutely no idea what I’m expecting to happen here. All I know is that it’s already been a long old week and it’s only Monday.

Any scenario where Robin Veldman remained in charge this season would have seen us with significantly less points than we have now, regardless of January signings.

He was a disaster and I saw nothing to suggest things would improve.

Aye. It’s hard to overstate just how bad it was. Opposition fans openly laughing at how we set up.

Doesn't change the fact that Davidson's currently doing no better a job with a stronger squad.

Marginally stronger squad, aye. We were absolutely rubbish under Veldman. Honking. Dreadful. Stinking. There were very, very few occasions when I believed we could get a result. I don’t go into games feeling like that now, despite the recent ropey spell. Don’t think Thomas’ absence was a coincidence in terms of the recent poor run. We have no squad depth.

Saturday showed me that we’re still up for the fight and that’s going to have to continue to be the case. If it is a playoff, it’s important that we go into it off the back of solid performances. It’s going to be about getting the basics right. If we can do that, we have absolutely nothing to fear from the coming games, however many of them there are.

Davidson Ball hardly gets you off your seats tbf.

He had to make us more solid. Defending has been far from Franco Baresi, but we don’t look like we’re going to lose a goal every time the opposition crosses the halfway line either. We’re going to need a big turnover of players, regardless of what league we’re playing in. Too many guys who are just “ok” on their day.
