  1. Are Killie fans not seriously concerned at the gratuitous offering of three-year deals to every player Locke is interested in?

    Here we go again.

If you pay attention to the Killie forums it has been explained atleast half a dozen times.

They are 3 year deals but with get out clauses.

If the player doesn't play a certain amount of games they get shown the door after a year.

Millar and Cairney are prime examples of that last season.

  2. Yes we've signed 3 ageing players from a team that finished 3rd in the second tier but let's break them down.

Boyd is a proven goalscorer for Kilmarnock, and given the correct service plus a desire to prove last season was more down to the club he was at rather than him being on the decline.

Smith is a left back, a position we have struggled to fill in the last few seasons and have resorted to playing right backs in that position at the end of last season. Would still like to see us bring in extra cover for left back but the Smith signing strengthens the team.

McCulloch, the main reason for the other supporters to currently point and laugh, has a 3 year player/assistant manager deal. I'll bet that 2 years of that deal are as AM only. He's a backup squad player this season who as much as I detest as a player will prove to be useful when injuries/suspensions kick in. I'll be shocked if he makes more than 10 appearances this season.

It is telling that we played 2 different teams v Berwick yesterday and 'elbows' got a grand total of 0 minutes.

If McCulloch had received a playing only deal then it would quite rightly receive seethe from Killie fans and scorn from everyone else.

With regards to this being a gamble, 2 positions Killie have all been strengthened so far by Gary Locke. McCulloch is here as assistant manager and will be an extra body squad only called upon emergency.

Not as much of a gamble as it first appears

According to one of the papers he didn't play yesterday because he isn't registered yet.

But could he not have played as a trialist yesterday to bypass this?

    Probably paper shite as usual.

  3. Comparing Durrant to McCullough is like putting a well maintained Bentley next to a Sierra that's just failed its MOT. Absolutely ludicrous comparison.

I wasn't comparing Durrant to McCulloch.

I was just saying that some people aren't happy because he's an ex rangers player and "one of them".

It's a ludicrous, outdated and a bigoted view to take just because of a team he used to play for.

  4. This debate about McCulloch is amusing . He's a Killie player now , a controversial one , but I can remember a few in my time that merited more comment .

The ex drug addict McLaren didn't turn out too bad an acquisition , Williamson took a punt on him .

McCoist and Durrant were coming to us to pad out their pension , they didn't turn out too bad either.

All we should ask is that he does his best for us and enjoy the de criers anguish at our foley should he bring something to the table

    This.

    Exactly this.

  5. So you think signing him as a player is a good move? I've clearly stated that he may well be an asset on the coaching side, and I'm fine with that aspect.

Do you really think that a player who had to resort to thuggery in order to make any kind of contribution in the second tier has anything to offer us on the playing side?

We've had many players from the Uglies over the years, mostly towards the end of their careers, but I struggle to think of any who were this close to finished. Add the fact that his nickname is "Elbows" for a damned good reason and he'd be unlikely to get away with his unique style of "competitiveness" playing for us, and that his fortieth birthday is just round the corner, and I simply can't see what he has to offer.

I've always loved a player whose commitment takes him over the line at times - from McDicken to Pascali,I, and many other fans I think, appreciate dedication to the team. Slamming opponents with your elbow as a matter of course, or throwing yourself to the floor to claim a penalty against Stirling, ffs, is something entirely different.

As a coach, he may well instill some backbone onto the players - I would hope that the majority would have the professionalism and self respect to keep their competitive nature on the right side of cheating.

We've had a few diving b*****ds in our time.

  6. Is not that he's "wan ae Thame", tbh. Plenty of players have come to us from the Sisters and, as long as they give their all in blue and white, have been widely accepted.

The difference here is that he's a dirty player, and a cheat.

Ian Durrant was one of the best players I've ever seen at Rugby Park.

I welcome the dirty cheating b*stard. He's our dirty cheating b*stard now :D

  7. Put his in the other thread aswell

Jig meant to be a done deal. If you told me this 3weeks ago when our only signings were robinson and mcdonald, i would of be fuming, raging.

But now with alot of good signings and added optimsm to the club, i see this in a postive frame of mind. Now we have signed findley I see Jig being 4th choice at best behind ashcroft, connely and findley. He would be effect for coming on to protect leads and to throw up front for last 5minutes of a game, so as a player pretty usless.

But lets not judge him on that, thats not what he's coming here for.

He's here to coach, and nobody knows what he'll be like in this role. He is international experienced and played in top leagues across Britain, played under excellent managers so he should have good ideas, good contacts and good experience. Theres nothing to say he'd be a shit coach, so lets give the guy a chance. Lets see what he does, and pray he is only used as a back up, back up, emergency player.

"But he's one of THEM!:angry::angry::angry:"

    That's all you get.

    I welcome big Jig.

  8. Was thinking boyd scored 21 goals in a very poor killie side, with johnston and mckensie providing the service to him. Now we have a much better side with better players providing the services, players like Higgy, Tope, Carick, Maggenis and even Smith at full back.

What are the chances of boyd scoring more this time round??

I fancy him to score the same or more this season.

Paddy Power giving 16/1 for him to score 20 or more.
