I think when we play him on the right teams know he will just cut in onto his left.

Absolutely right. You could liken him to the way Johnston was for Hamilton today; a real handful until the defence figured out how to handle him. On his day he can be electrifying, but not seeing much evidence so far and I think he needs a few more tools in his toolbag to make himself a proper threat for a whole game

I thought McAllister had his best game in a long time. Did you not notice how Hamilton improved when McAllister went off ? I certainly did.

Hamilton improved after their substitutions and Johnston came on, not because the defensive workhorse that McAllister isn't went off. Once Tait figured him out he faded out and went for a quick pass or cross

even McAllister looked back to his old self in the first half.

He was in the game in the first half, but did his usual disappearing act in the second and deserved to be hooked. If he wants to be a regular in the starting 11 he needs to raise his game big time for the whole 90 minutes. Living on past glories and the hype and excitement that came with his return to the club, but so far this season he isn't doing it for me

To soften the blow, we did recoup some of that money back from the sale of Ross Stewart to Ross County.

Surely the recoup of the 75K only occurs if we somehow manage to get anything for the sale/development of the player himself? Yes, it all affects the revenue and bottom line, but any fee received for another player can't be argued as offsetting the unjustifiable cost of another any more than the increased sale of hot dogs or caramel wafers from the snack kiosks, and I suspect we got a bit more from John McGinn's move to Villa than we got from Ross County.

It's easy to look at us and reckon we're a shambolic basket case, looking for our 4th manager in 13 months but in reality, we've lost one to a bigger club, one was the most monumental of fuckups by the club (every team has one at one point) and finally Oran Kearney.

From the outside looking in, it strikes as a 'what the f**k, why did they empty him?' scenario but digging in a bit, there's a bit more to it than that.

Kearney has never made any secret that he missed his family and struggled with the commute and leaving the kids behind - he spoke about this publicly on a few occasions. I think most of us had accepted that it was something that would be a work in progress and OK himself had mentioned the possibility of bringing out his family for good in the summer but had reservations about kids going to a new school and leaving pals behind.

I fully get that it's a difficult choice to uproot kids but that's the life of a football manager - particularly one who shows ambition in testing themselves in other countries...and therein lies an issue. He applied for the job twice, we didn't uproot OK, he did so willfully. He came to us in the first instance and interviewed well, just missing out. On the 2nd occasion, we apparently sent for him. If that career path is something you actively want to pursue to any decent level, you have to accept the pitfalls of the role too and that is moving about a lot.

The thing that strikes me as very, very off though and the reason I believe that OK actually was working his ticket out and left the board with no option was the almost 6 weeks of murmurings and speculation leading up to him leaving.

A gentleman on Twitter calling himself 'Irish League insider' posted  6 weeks back that Kearney was 100% going home for good and this was derided by many Saints fans as bollocks (myself included). This guy though was so certain, so cocksure that this WAS going to happen, he offered his twitter account up if it didn't happen (then reneged, the fud) The same gentleman also said that his information was as close to the source as you can get. When Kearney then announced he was staying, it sort of put him to bed and he relented.

But then other things started happening - things that with hindsight, make you wonder WTF was actually going on. Jimmy Nicholl upped sticks and went to Dundee. No prior warning, explanation, no insight as to why or if he was offered a new deal. Kearney played it off as disappointing but there was no indication from SMFC that Jimmy Nicholl did anything other than a great job.

Kearney also wouldn't answer questions on his future until a week or so after the season ended at which point he committed to not leaving. This was understandable though as he had the Dundee Utd match to focus on. A simple 'I'm happy here and have no intentions of leaving' would have sufficed though.

Then Gordon Scott's interview on STV sport - he didn't exactly exude confidence that OK was happy in his living arrangement or in Scotland and did mention that relocation is something they'd like to discuss 'in the future'...again, not '2 weeks from this interview, take it or leave it', he didn't sound confident in OK's happiness but also didn't seem to be pressing the issue publicly.

Coleraine also, were quite clearly holding off and holding off on appointing a new manager - 6 weeks now! When it seemed that OK was finally staying at Saints, they then went to Dundalk for permission to talk to their assistant and that very quickly fell apart...since then, all quiet. Chairman since saying that they'd like to speak to OK if indeed he does leave us.

The only question left is how it took 'Irish League Insider' 4 weeks longer than he expected to get to the outcome he KNEW '100%' was going to happen! The only part of his prediction yet to pass is that OK is not the Coleraine manager yet.

My purely speculative opinion  is that OK DID plan to go after the Dundee Utd match but something changed in the intervening 4 weeks at one or both sides that made both parties happy to continue as is.....and then changed back again. leading to the events of the last 5 or 6 days which evidently became very, very embittered on both sides.

Far, far too sensible and logical a post for a football forum!!!!! but can't do anything but agree with everything you say. As much as OK did to keep us up last season, and as much as he appears to be a thoroughly decent guy, I can't help but feel that between them OK & Coleraine tried to "play" the club one way or another. Who knows if we will ever find out if they won, lost or drew in that process, but all sides can now move on preparations for the new season and life in general, thankfully.

Hard to read anything in to that other than that the club are NOT happy about how this has all turned out.

The Coleraine fixture being cancelled (and their mischievously timed Tweet about it still being on) make me think they and OK have been trying to engineer his move back there in a way that financially benefits Coleraine/OK to Saints' detriment.

I doubt we'll ever find the truth, but I think it must be along those lines.

Let's get Goodwin in, and move on.

Bring on the annual accounts and we might get a hint of the financial outcome of this ...

May well be Saints that are holding announcing the whole thing up while the agree terms with a new manager (Goodwin). So that we can do some sort of announcement similar to when Rodgers left Celtic and Lennon was immediately appointed albeit on an interim basis. This would at least ease some of the uncertainty that we’ve started this new season with.

If we are the good guys in all of this, it could be that finalisation of any settlement with OK/Coleraine needs to factor in any compensation payable to Alloa (other club's managers are available), hence the hold up in a formal announcement

I would disagree it seems pretty clear OK has tried to bounce the club into accepting his terms for the new season but I reckon GLSs reaction is mostly about keeping his alpha-male status at the club.

The longer this has run on, and the longer the club has said nothing, the more convinced I am that OK has tried to move the goalposts in some way. It is clear that whatever arrangements were in place last season worked therefore why change them unless either something was agreed/written enabling them to change and the parties can't agree on how they should change or one party has proposed a change out of the blue and has tried to force acceptance of it and the other isn't happy about it.

It's easy to join the dots of OK's teaching & Coleraine jobs still being available as a personal Plan B for him, but what club would leave their managerial position empty for so long in the summer with little evidence of trying to find someone unless it was part of a longer game with the knowledge/probability that their preferred candidate would be available in the future? Even OK's comments after the play-offs about working out a solution to his living arrangements started alarm bells ringing for me.

Frustrating as it is, based on the above, I don't blame GLS or the club for digging their heels in if that is what's happening.  My guess is that money could make this situation go away but If the club/GLS was to give-in to a settlement beyond what is due under the circumstances it would open the door to any future manager or player thinking they can chance their arm in negotiations. I get the point about retaining "alpha male" status, but at the end of the day it's business.

  9. Having watched the video of Sunday's match "from a different view", you clearly see that Hladky was no more off his line than Seigrist yet I don't remember seeing Beaton speak to him. We can easily start to sound paranoid over this, but it's difficult to argue in favour of Beaton's performance and decision making

From my seat in W1 West stand it looked like the Accies lad just smashed Gary Mac with an elbow.

I haven't seen it back yet so I’ll be interested to see if Collum bottled it or got it correct.

I thought we pretty much pounded Accies second half, with some good patient play.  It looked like we were going to have one of those nights when we just couldn’t get the goal. But Flynn and Cooke made the difference as we made the extra man count.

McAlister took his goal superbly well, and Kyle Magennis has a touch of real class. Two of our own academy boys.

All roads lead to Dens :thumsup2

TV pictures were clear, McCoist & Stewart were adamant no foul or no intent at the time, but then both back-tracked at half-time and agreed it should also have been red. The Hamilton thug clearly put his shoulder into McKenzie's forehead after making no attempt to get the ball.

Collum bottled that decision and got a few others totally wrong. All the talk about things "evening out across the season" and him being held up as one of our best referees is absolutely laughable and speaks volumes about the standard of officiating in Scottish football.

The idea of having non-Scottish referees is utterly ludicrous. I watch a fair bit of football from around Europe, and overall there is absolutely no difference between Scottish refs and other nationalities. If I was a Scottish referee just now, and my employer came out with the fact that they were thinking about bringing outsiders in, I’d tell them to stuff their job. This is solely to placate the paranoid twosome.

Surely the point of foreign referees is the opposite of what you suggest. Other clubs are falling foul of decisions made in favour of the ugly sisters based upon allegiencies, real or perceived.

While foreign referees may have similar levels of in/competency, it would certainly be far more difficult to levy accusations of bias, therefore removing one factor from the equation.

Not again!!!!!! Better get used to this I suppose.

Lesson to be learned from how Jack conducted himself regarding Barnsley though. Showed respect by meeting them and gratefully withdrew. Look what happened to the guy they appointed .... If Ipswich don't have a pot to pi55 in that will be clear if/when he speaks with them and he can make his decision once he is equipped with some details.

Also, Jack has 2 years to go on his contract so buying him out of that plus compensation from any potential suitor will cost them, no matter how much that is by comparison to the numbers St Mirren is used to dealing with. If Ipswich don't have it they can't spend it.

Hopefully we'll take 9 or 10 points from our next 4 games and that will more or less see us over the line, you'd imagine.

I thought exactly the same when I read the revised fixture schedule. That has definitely put the emphasis on earning enough points from the next 6 games to ease the pressure there will be if we don't get back on form as every one of the last four games is a potential banana skin if the league isn't decided by then.

Saying that, how good would it be to either have the league wrapped up before or to even secure it on the day when our hygienically challenged neighbours come to call.
