Hearts goal difference was -10 in the group and ours was level pegging.  Stats, miniskirts etc......but it does give an indication of a series of closer, competitive matches.

The calibre of opponent was similar in terms of the two good sides, but you had a Latvian side in your group.  We have recently faced a couple of sides from that nation winning 12-0 on agg over four matches. Us drawing twice with HJK wasn't too clever either, but generally they are a fairly established side who were seeded ahead of us.

When I was in Thessaloniki watching us put in a credible performance against PAOK, the Greeks were all asking who this pub team from Scotland they faced in the play-off round were !

As stated, you get another go at the groups next year, and the positive is, you can hardly do much worse.

I was thinking this yesterday playing the semi finals at Hampden gives the Glasgow clubs a massive advantage.

Given that few clubs outside Glasgow have won the cup since Aberdeen's great days then it's incredibly difficult to do.

Aberdeen beat both in 1983 at Hampden and also beat both in 1982 albeit the Celtic win that year was at Pittodrie.

Dons also beat celtic in the semi and rangers in the final to win the 1989 league cup

    #cans i am guessing

No idea who Craig Reid is either.. strange poster isnt he

I think he was the guy who assaulted langfield in the last game of 2013-14 but that clown McLean let the goal stand.

This meant we had to play an extra qualifying round which we won convincingly before going out at the final qualifying round as usual.

Motherwell had their usual home and away run in europe losing if memory serves to some Icelandic diddies, well daft is indeed a most apt user name

Any Saints fans want to own up to leaving early? 🤔

Why wouldn't they, game heading to a routine away win and then the sevco coach sticks his oar in.

St mirren should remember their place as a training ground for Afc managers,as meatloaf said 2 out of 3 ain't bad but definitely want more fergies than goodwins

You mean a team who have existed nearly 30 years longer earned more points in that time? Wow. (Over 300 points for you before we were formed...)

Pre 1900 doing some heavy lifting for Hearts!

In the last 10 years you've been relegated as many times as youve finished above us.

Even last season you managed to finish below a Jim Goodwin / Barry Robson team.

    😄

Of course I do, but I already addressed that in a previous post.

If it’s not deliberate, then the only other way a penalty can be given is if the player is deemed to have touched the ball with their hand/arm when it is in a position that makes their body unnaturally bigger and when that position is not the result of their body moving fairly as part of play (that’s the exact wording from IFAB). Goldson didn’t do that, IMO.

Hence why I don’t believe his, nor the Hearts penalty on Saturday should’ve been given as I believe neither were deliberate (which you’ve already agreed with) nor was their arms in an unnatural position that is not the result of their body moving fairly as part of play (this must be the only contention you have).

You would have been screaming for a pen if that was at the other end,you would have got it as well.

Old Firm matches excepted, generally I think these things even out. The good fortune Aberdeen had midweek does seem to have had its counterpoint today

Both saints goal midweek and Aberdeens yesterday would have probably stood if scored either celtic or rangers.

Likewise can't see either pen being awarded against them

The exit of Williams should create an available salary slot. Traditionally, this transfer window has been rather uninspiring, so I don't expect a significant amount of activity, although any potential transactions are more likely to occur closer to the deadline.

I would work the saved Williams money into a better offer to barron
