  1. The fact McCann has him as our number one striker would suggest otherwise.
McCann seems intelligent and it looks like he's picked up a couple of good players again in the summer. That's why it's so strange that he continues to play the moron.

I think McCann wants an outlet up front and feels the type of player who can dominate with back to goal is ideal for that.
He clearly thinks / thought that Moussa would fulfil that role but I think we can all agree he isn’t the answer.

To give McCann his due I do think we’ve looked very limited when we’ve not had a ‘big’ striker playing (whether it be Moussa or Haber).

Also I don’t know if stubbornness is the reason he kept Moussa and punted Haber but he was happy to concede that the Wolters experiment was up the poley and he’s now gone.

In short I’ve no idea what’s going on in McCann’s head but Moussa needs sent to the glue factory.
  2. If the money isn’t there then there’s f**k all we can do about it.
Do we blame McCann for poor recruitment? Probably, but he has brought in some good players so his eye for player clearly isn’t terrible (Moussa aside).
Do we blame Hartley for poor recruitment and ridiculous contract policy? Yes but that’s done and we can’t go back in time.
Do we blame the board for not being ‘cute’ enough with their dealings? Maybe, although they seem to have run a tight ship transfer wise but we have no idea the salaries being paid.

To sum up multiple people near some responsibility for the situation we are in. But we can only piss with the cock we’ve got. If the money isn’t there we can’t spend it. If the perceived quality / value isn’t there (or we can’t find it), we can’t magic it out of thin air.

There are things McCann can try (I’d prefer he did this preseason but hey ho); Deacon as a striker? Not sure if we tried it last season but could be worth a go. The young lads...? If we get no joy from Moussa and Mendy then I see no harm in giving Henvey, Lambert, Scott etc a run out. Also the new young French (I think) boy.

I know it’s a bit champ man but if we can’t bring someone in for financial reasons then we’ll just have to work with what we have.

    * enormous caveat - ideal world I’d like the board to get down the back of the sofa and find extra money for someone good.

  3. McCann in the paper saying he is getting priced out of getting any strikers down south..

I hope that is a ploy to try and get more money from the board because if we don’t improve the striker situation we’ll have a long hard slog this year.

A decent finisher is the difference between (relative) comfort and another relegation fight.
  4. That’s me officially given up on Moussa. I’ve defended him in the past and still feel he has positive attributes (hold up play) but today his first miss in particular is fucking criminal for someone who is supposed to be a professional footballer.

To take the positives from today; I think generally most of the squad played well.
    Madianga is some boi.
    Nabi looked positive.
It was nice to have a left footer at LB

if we manage to bring in even one striker that can actually test the opposition keeper then we’ll have a half decent team.

  5. I was looking for a shirt to wear this evening - I am going out for a meal - only to discover that it was in the ironing pile. Not the end of the world, however my wife decided that the best way to put it in said pile is to scrunch it into what can only be described as a ball and then chuck other things on top of it.
This now means it’s going to be nigh on impossible for me to get it crease free.

    Pie. Boot. Etc

  6. According to my Dad my first game at Dens was a 4-0 win over Clydebank in October 1991 - I have no memory of this. My first vivid memory from Dens is the final game of the 91-92 season when we won the 1st Division despite losing to Montrose on the day. I was in the main stand just above the tunnel. Interesting looking back at the table and realising we’d only got top spot 1 point ahead of Partick Thistle.

What’s folks earliest / most vivid memory at the football?

  7. We are apparently trying to hijack Heart's attempt at signing Demetri Mitchell on loan. Can't see in what world we'd be successful but it is what it is.

I was impressed by what I saw of him last year - the only way I see us being successful is if they aren’t able to guarantee playing time. Even then I’d assume they would probably still have more chance of getting him.
  8. Agree with the above thoughts. Personally I’d try and push the price up a bit as the English deadline is tomorrow so we have the upper hand. But take the approx 1.5 - 2m (minus anything due to Caulker) and reinvest 50%. That will go a long way to helping balance the squad and filling the known problem areas.

I’d like to keep him but it makes far more sense to get the money, he came in for nothing.

  9. I think Parish is an upgrade on Scott Bain. It's odd because form clearly doesn't follow players from club to club.
Hemmings, Stewart, McGinn and the other way coming in too with the likes of el bak, yordi (lower tier I know).
It just clicks and I have total faith in Parish.

I wouldn’t say I totally echo your view on Parish but I do feel he shouldn’t be dropped and with a settled back 3 / 4 in front of him who are all comfortable together we’ll perform reasonably well. I’ve noticed Caulker commanding the back 4 and talking everyone through the past few games. Parish is no where near as bad as folk suggest.
Most likely neither is Hamilton but I reckon the staring position is Parish’s to lose.
  10. Although  El Bak, Vincent and Haber are our on loan how much of their wages are Dundee still paying?

I don’t have any inside knowledge, I just speculate like anyone else but I would imagine that the loan deals will be fee based ie. the receiving club will pay a set fee for the players service. That will of course be based on how they and we both value the player... it could be as low as 5-10k if we aren’t being clever or as much as 50k if we’ve done well.
I don’t think they are really done as percentage of wage anymore. Although it could be expressed as that - I think if we are getting anywhere near 50% of a wage covered we are doing well.
  11. I understand the concerns that many folk have for this season - to an extent I share these. But I think that whilst unloading a lot of dead wood we have still strengthened in midfield - I like the look of Elton and I think Madianga will go on to be our best player this season. (I think Kamara will be away although I’d be chuffed if he stays). McCann seems to be going with Caulker & Meekings at CH when both are fit so I’d be encouraged if we can keep a consistent back line, that was one thing that changed virtually every week last season and it didn’t help us at all.
Keeper wise I’d probably keep Parrish in unless his form drops to the extent that there is no option but to play Hamilton - who I think is Scott Bain mk2.
The only bit I’m a bit disappointed with is up front. They must be working on bringing in one or two but I’d rather they work away and get it right rather than waste money on some diddy.

  12. Targeted advertising that shows you stuff you've already bought.
I keep seeing adverts for a pair of trainers and some clothing I bought a couple of days ago, I'm not likely to buy them again before they've even been delivered.

I also find this irritating. Same as yourself, purchased some clothes online and still get adverts for the same ones I’ve bought.
Wouldn’t be quite so bad if it was new different stuff I’d not previously seen.
The internet itself, whilst being quite useful is a PTTGOYN in itself.
