  1. Jim Duffy on off the ball today Tam Cowan - You'll be happy Ayr got pumped last night aye Jim? Jim Duffy - Aye
  2. We set up the same as the Raith game but we didn't want the ball for the first half hour of the game, when we won it back we got rid of it almost immediately. You can't play attacking football if you don't have the ball. We lacked a Mark Kerr in the middle of the park, someone that could take the speed out of the game, we were giving the ball away so cheaply and getting caught on the break constantly. it was a horror 15 or so minutes, The rest of the game was fairly standard, we defended well and had plenty of pressure but created zip. Part of me is relieved it was only 3 when it could have been so many more, I thought it was going to be at least 5 at one point, part of me is glad that Bullen made changes that improved the team and turned the performance around. But there is still a huge effort needed for us to stay up, there are still a lot of problems with this team to be fixed to turn it around, it'll be a while before we are good to watch.
  3. From kick-off, Ayr looked completely lost in the occasion, no one put their foot on the ball, we just lumped it forward, played it out the park or just gave it away. Midfield was completely overran and changes had to be made. Normally to make changes after a second goal goes in is standard, however, when the third goes in after 17 minutes its understandable changes weren't made before then. Maxwell hadn't touched the ball when he came off, McKenzie was slightly better. For a period, I thought Fjortoft was possibly the dopiest player we have had since Allan Gillespie and David Smythe. A clumsy big fanny that keeps making stupid challenges, however, he probably saved us going 4-0 down by getting sent off. If we hadn't scored I'd have left at half time, we didn't look like scoring, we looked like we'd concede another 3-4 easy. Once we scored, the game changed, Kilmarnock were dreadful at the back and we started to take control of the game, We were still horrifically disjointed going forward but were playing on the front foot. Both Kilmarnock fullbacks were very bad but we had taken off any wide threat by the point we were attacking and our main threat was from McGinty and Muirhead pushing up the park and playing balls in to the box, we were almost playing a back two of Reading and Baird at points. 442 was a failure, in hindsight, dropping Maxwell or McKenzie for Dempsey and playing 4312 might have been better. Playing the two up front should have been the case but it should have came with sacrificing a forward player rather than a midfielder.
  4. Phoned SSE today, asked why my direct debit had gone up. They said it was to cover my bills. My gas bill is £98 and the next two direct debits are £60 so I will be £20 in credit by the time my next bill comes in. I asked why it had gone up to £100 a month and he said that it would put me more in credit for future bills. They gave me the option of dropping my direct debits back to the previous level until my next bill or keeping them at £100
  5. I moved to SSE about a year ago, my bills were £38 a month for Gas and £47 for electricity. 3 months in they contacted me to say they were putting my direct debits up to £90 because they didn't believe my meter reading. They dropped them back down after I called. That happened every quarter last year. I got an email 3 weeks ago saying they were putting my bills up to £50 & 60 a month. I got another tonight saying they are putting them up to £98 and £100. £62 a month increase for gas in a year? near enough an extra £750 a year for gas ? This is exactly the same usage as last year its not like I have started running a furnace or crematorium. Robbing c***s.
  6. I think Scott Brown has a few branches to hit on the way down before he lands on ours. Probably half a dozen clubs in the premier would take him including a team he used to play for, managed by a former team mate.
  7. Out of interest why do you think Yogi would jack it in? Seems to be his way, achieves something then chucks it.
  8. Unless he chapped Hopkins hotel door during the summer, or played in a free agent game for Duffy to watch there is no chance he would have signed for Ayr. I’m not saying Bullen, Mathie or Glendinning have played a blinder here but they trying to put together a jigsaw rather than just picking up a wage.
  9. McKenzie offers protection to Houston and does the dirty defensive side of the game that Gondoh doesn't. Much the same as Maxwell Vs. O'Conner. It really depends on what the opposition do in relation to how much you would notice McKenzies role. On Saturday there was less defensive work to be done so McKenzie could move in to forward areas more. It would have been the ideal game to play Gondoh.....had McKenzie not been involved in most of the goals and had Gondoh not done very little when he did come on.
  10. We have needed someone who can not only give an out ball for the forward players to keep hold of possession but someone to sit in front of the defenders and offer more protection by disrupting play. Hopefully this guy fits the bill.
  11. Yes, but it did with Murdoch missing and Muirhead in midfield last week. 3 big points dropped last week. The formation was changed to suit the personnel available this week rather than square pegs in round holes and we won. This is the type of shooting ourselves in the foot I am talking about.
  12. My post had positives and criticism of the problems we still have. We are potentially two or three results away from a dreadful end to the season and there are very little positives to be found in that. We are also two or three results away from coasting to safety. Until recently we had the worst defence in the league and the worst goal scoring record with the bulk of this team, we went about three weeks without a shot at goal with the bulk of this team. The new signings have been a big help but Dempsey getting injured last week showed how one piece of the puzzle missing can bugger the whole thing up if the wrong selection and formation are chosen. Everyone wants Ayr to do well and we have to make sure that standards are met and we don't shoot ourselves in the foot at any point. I'd take a defeat if we are outplayed or at the hands of a bad refereeing decision but the last 18 months have seen us lose games because we reverted to playing eye bleeding football with a third of the pitch between the one poor sod up front and the midfield. Some supporters see a couple of good results as a corner turned then we make the same mistakes. The fans, players and manager need to keep the pressure on until we are safe.
  13. More players possibly inbound this week before the Kilmarnock game. Maybe 1-2 out on loan as well ?
  14. The sooner we are safe the sooner we can start building a squad for next season, not knowing what league that will be will put a few players off from signing for us. We need to get some business done early including some of the loan players. We can't be going in to September again missing players in key positions. The players we have signed up for next season would take a fair chunk out of a league one budget, we would probably lose a few of the players like Murdoch and Reading meaning a bigger recruitment job for next season. We have beaten Kilmarnock and like Raith have competed well against Arbroath and Hamilton. we also play Morton in those 4 weeks. Anything over 7 points from those games and we'll be ok. Anything over that will be a bonus.
  15. McGlynns post match interview is odd, he looks like a supporter being interviewed on fan TV. Looks absolutely raging and frustrated.
  16. I think one of the current bottom 6 will make the promotion play-offs at the expense of Raith or Inverness. I think Arbroath will win the league. At the bottom end, I can see one of the new managers hitting a poor run after an initial “bounce” and taking their team down. But I don’t think Dunfermline will go straight down. I think Hughes will keep Dunfermline up via the playoffs and then quit.
  17. We lost to QOTS last week by reverting to the type of tactics that have not worked for us all season, where we barely have a shot at goal. We are then too slow to change them. We win 2 games and then Chuck it away on the third, and have done all season. If we lose on Friday night and QOTS win on Saturday, if Morton beat Partick and Hamilton win, the. We are deeper in shit with one less game to play. They both have a game in hand over us. this isn’t about negativity, this is about making sure we don’t go out next Friday, the following Saturday or the next….and shoot ourselves in the foot before a ball is kicked. Peter Ustinov described a pessimist as someone who knows how bad things are and doesn’t want them to get worse. We are disjointed going forward, we had scored the least goals of any team in the league until Yesterday. There are people talking about us making the playoffs in the last 12 hours, after last weeks defeat they were talking about us getting relegated. All I am trying to do is temper expectations and inject a bit of realism.
  18. Is there beef with Raith fans and James Maxwell ? was he getting abuse today or anything? His two celebrations were weird, I get players giving stick back but it looked out of the blue today. It happens occasionally when someone scores against us and some no-mark player starts giving a GIRFUY gesture to the side terrace for no reason. The picture from the club photographer shows some awkward Raith fans acting like they are trying to ignore a drunk person on a bus.
  19. After going in to the second quarter, I wouldn’t have kept any of the squad we had. Going in to the final quarter, there is probably 6 players we need to keep and maybe another 6-8 we should keep. We have signed players up for next season already and signed Players on loan with the hope/intention of keeping them beyond it. The squad is getting stronger and there is more options available in the style of play we have compared to 6 weeks ago. Bullens learning curve aside, there is an improvement.
  20. I have never hated a team as much as I hated Hopkins Ayr team. The team just now has flashbacks to then, the disjointed forward play and the habit of defending deep and getting hemmed in. Even under Duffy you knew we would probably get beat, it came down to whether we had a shot on goal or not. Now, none of us go in to a game knowing we will get beat, there is a bit of hope and expectation creeping back in. There still isn’t an expectation of a victory but there isn’t the same doom we had earlier in the season. Next week we play Kilmarnock who have been hit and miss. Morton play Partick and I think they will probably beat them, QOTS play Raith and you would expect them to win on current form. Dunfermline play Hamilton, a win for either team would be bad for us. Putting in a performance like we did last week would drop us back in to the shite so we need to be on it from the first minute.
  21. Thought we looked better with a midfield 2, still looked disjointed going from middle to front, far to many final balls given away. Raith were honking at the back and we took advantage. Adeloye proved what he brings to the team, someone puts the ball on to his toe and he puts it in the back of the net. Maxwell showed composure that is sometimes missing from his game. Ashford did a lot of running and support work that he normally can’t because he’s isolated on his own. Scored a good goal as well. Thought we looked good at the back, a couple of hairy moments with Fjortoft but he hasn’t played for months. Gondoh was a bit of a waste of time when he came on, maybe needed longer to make an impression, also nearly caused a goal. O’Conner was brighter. I was happier claiming the clean sheet than I would have been going for a fifth and maybe conceding one. Makes the selection for next Friday more interesting.
  22. Good game from Ayrs point of view, early goals helped us to take a foothold in the game and keep it going. Raith didn’t retain possession like they normally do, Ayr were disjointed moving the ball from middle to front as always but managed to exploit the left hand side of Raiths defence a few times. It was as bad a defensive display as I’ve seen in a while from Raith. Ayr looked solid at the back but the midfield worked well in and out of possession. Raith and Inverness look to have chucked it but I think Morton, Ayr and Hamilton will cut each other’s throats and none will trouble the play-offs
