  1. From what he has said on ayr's os - he wanted a fresh challenge commenting that the second division looks more appealing. Good luck to him but I feel we can get a better central defender in now!!

And who can blame him with Sevco, Dunforever and East Fife International in the mix ? Never mind two trips to Stranraer.

  2. It's always been the problem for Lithgow - his past. Some fans won't ever let it go and Alan honestly isn't the nasty pervert some would have you believe. He did a very stupid, disgusting thing and he's paid the price for it ever since. I know we've offered him a deal but I don't know how long that will be on the table. He's held out for as long as possible each year in the hope of a full-time offer but it could work against him this year as I don't see Murray waiting about too long for him to make up his mind.

Rumour is that Murray and Lithgow had a bit of an attitude thing when he was put on the subs bench for a couple of games.

If Murray gets himself stripped for a centre-back role this season then with Graham he would form a balanced right/left central defence, so the loss of Lithgow need not be acute. Having said that he's been a decent player for us so I'd not be fazed either way. As for the flam.......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  3. I reckon we're a good striker and a centre half, preferably Lithgow, away from a very decent starting XI.

    .......Grindlay/Keeper

    McGinn Graham CB Smith

    Gils Turner Aggy McDougall

    ......... Fleming ST

We then need another keeper, 1/2 more defender(s), 1 or 2 wingers, a couple of centre mids and another striker. Won't all happen though.

Apparently Big Lithgae is a doubt to re-sign. A possible factor is that neither he nor Murray were particularly happy with each other when he was relegated to the bench for a couple of games towards the end of last season.

  4. While that looks a decent team on paper do you think the the balance of the team is totally off. That midfield would offer little protection to the back four. A risk.

Halfway to two thirds thro last season I would probably have agreed with you that there was a preponderance of fart-arsers in there. However, as has already been stated, there was much more appetite for the sleeves-up stuff about most of these guys from Xmas onwards.

And allow us to bask in the observation that a Dumbarton team may have too much football about it - quality !!

  5. given how awful our defence was last year I'm a little surprised that most people seem content to go either same keeper and back four. Even after Murray arrived we conceded 45 goals in 24 games. It is an area that definitely needs improvement

Yep, agree with that, but you have to bear in mind that there were quite a number of defensive comings and goings thro last season - eg Forsyth, Devlin, Creaney, Urquhart, etc., I can't help feel though that a decent centre-back and 'keeper should be high on the list, in addition to another midfielder and striker.

The goals against weren't all down to the one cause, and I think we need to have options in a few areas, difficult in a small squad I know. If last season taught us anything, it was that the cover has to be reasonable.

  6. scott agnew said on twiter going to dumbarton this weekend to sign up

    Good if true....

There will be lots of ducking a diving in the next wee while; a reliable source tells me that some players are looking for more poppy, whilst another is apparently on the radar of four 1st Division clubs.

Scott Smith is one I'd like to see signing on, and as for the lad Horne, the Murray man has maybe seen something he can work with.

  7. It'll be disappointing if Lister leaves, whatever the reason, but as you say he should leave with our best wishes after what he's achieved as part of this team this season.

I'd actually be surprised if any from that list in your second paragraph were retained tbh. It will be interesting to see who of our 'main stays' are offered terms. I doubt Murray will want to keep all of our regular starters, so it'll be interesting to see who 'makes the grade' in his eyes.

I'd like us to keep the core of our side in Graham, Lithgow, Turner, Agnew and Lister, as well as Prunty and Gilhaney, although I'm not sure he'll even be actively looking to keep all of them.

He'll have his own targets and from his comments, he might be eyeing us playing in a different style next season, so who knows what players he'll have on his list for the summer. That said, I too would like to keep Scott Smith if possible, and he's being released by Hibs, so that could be a realistic possibility.

Thomas Mueller has always impressed me....

  8. A premier seat means you can sit close to big jim Cunningham and Fraser the.numpty and listen to their sparkling repartee about referees and linesmen. Enjoy.

The latter is a bampot. An interminable bore of a man who for 90 minutes suffers from Tourefs Syndrome.

  9. This could be a great signing for both player and club(s). If he hits the ground running for an in form Dumbarton side it's a win win situation for all including St. Mirren. When i say all i don't mean the other teams fighting relegation of course whch a Cowden fan already pointed out. Bring on Saturday hopefully tomorrow's dry weather gives the pitch plenty of time to dry out. It's been pissing down today again and has been all week.

Agreed, and I like the fact that Murray is trading upwards in an effort to build on what he has - this boy could be the next Ian Chisholm.

I would though like to also see a Neil Scally, Bobby McConville type ballwinner in midfield; Chris Turner has been a wee bit too anonymous for my liking in recent games. Still, it's all moving in the right direction.
