  1. If Naysmith has stated he doesn't need a CM then I'll be shocked and pleased if Thomson comes back. Someone saying on The Sons topic that he's signed for Livi. Can't find any confirmation yet but if GN doesn't want a CM then I expect Thomson will line up against us for some side this season.

If I remember correctly he never said he didn't want one but suggested there were other areas more of a priority, but agreed that Thomson would be a welcome addition if funds allowed.
  2. I think it is clear that he is not in the plans but an unexpected, emergency situation has arisen.

The point I am making - and you don't seem to get - is that if you have an experienced 'keeper available that you are already paying for then he should be considered to fill that gap over a young inexperienced 'keeper.

Any decent Manager uses the best players available therefore Robinson should have been on the bench as no.2 to Martin till such time he moved on.

Plenty of time thereafter for Leighfield to develop.

Ah well we'll need to agree to disagree on this one eh... football is a matter of opinion, part of the reason we love it.

Great chance to get the young lad experience in a game early in the season that we will be expected to take nothing from, it is possible I guess we get a hiding and it takes him two steps back after making one step forward but I hope not. Time will tell I guess.

  3. Your historical dislike of Marshall is well documented so it is no surprise that you seek to apportion blame to him.
Any competent 'keeper would have dealt with that comfortably, not that I am saying Leighfield is incompetent.
Not sure what you mean by " being questioned".
What I am pointing out is that he came across as really nervous and uncomfortable yesterday which is quite understandable and not something he should be vilified for.
His experience yesterday will help him but I would still say he is not ready yet for this level.

Incredible eh that a young gk comes across as nervous on his debut...

I stand behind the goals, maybe you do too, you couldn't blame one or the other for the corner conceded, both were at fault... move on tho it came to no harm.

If Naysmith is a man of his word then young Leighfield will be in goals at Tannadice if the no1 is not available. Personally I feel that's the way it should be. We need to free up the wage that Robinson is commanding and this will only emphasise the fact he is not in the plans.
  4. If Alan Martin is out for a game or two, hopefully the manager will stick with Jack and give him a chance to see what he can do. Very difficult position to play in as a youngster but sometimes being thrown in at the deepend is the best thing for them. I wasn't at the game today but are things looking a wee bit more optimistic or was it more a case of Brechin being poor?

Let's not be too negative as you can only beat what is in front of you, Brechin were the poorest league opposition we have seen at Palmerston for a good few years though.

  5. He's not being supported financially by the board but would you really trust him to recruit wisely even if he was?!!!!

Couple of ways to look at I guess:

    1. He is trying to bring in too many players on a very limited budget as he feels he needs depth as well as (if not more than) quality.

    2. He and whoever is assisting him are not the best at judging players.

I guess a part of the budget he has to play with is Robbo's wage though. My guess would be he is on a reasonable wage for our level and therefore moving him on will not be easy. It's unlikely on his performances over the last season will encourage teams around and above us to fork out on him to be a number two.

Someone mentioned in a recent post why is Robbie not 2nd choice, probably a couple of things again, GN is emphasising a point that he will get no game time and two he quite simply doesn't fancy him.

  6. Generally it seemed quite honest. Sure he fell back to the old we are a poor club finances excuse but generally he was honest and echoed the thoughts of the fans. I still prepared to give him time in the season

To be honest nothing he said is untrue. I agree with almost everything he said. The whole season depends on his next (hopefully) two or three signings and his ability to get the players to carry out the jobs he wants them to do.... providing they are capable of doing it.
