  1. I'm thinking back to a few years ago when the Celtic fans on here insisted having a minute's applause for remembrance was somehow appropriate, rather than a completely transparent attempt to drown out disruption. The tannoy guy even had the brass neck to call it 'the Glasgow Celtic way' of doing things.

FWIW I don't think Celtic or any other club should be under any obligation to have a minute's silence. TBH I'd rather keep politics out of football, and that means no commemoration at all, including at Morton. But that 'the Glasgow Celtic way' thing really stuck in my craw. It was plainly, obviously because they knew the silence would be disrupted, but held up as an example of Celtic piety.

Either do it properly or don't do it at all, is what I'm getting at (and not doing it at all would be my preference. When I go to soccer or baseball games over here in the US everyone has to stand for the anthem and it's completely unnecessary IMO.)

Fair enough post. I don't agree with minutes of applause either. I find them disrespectful.

  2. To be fair, Celtic's inability to have silences for solemn occasions is far more ridiculous than a man in a costume standing quietly.

Sorry? We had a minute silence at Parkhead last year (against St Johnstone?) and it was impeccably observed.

I didn't realise it was our responsibility to organise one at Ross County's ground though.

  3. Wee assistant teacher at my old school getting done with making a sex tape with a pupil.

Gutted it wasn't me. It's the quiet ones you have to watch out for.

  4. On an unrelated note, how many pubs are there in the Barras/Gallowgate?

There must be about 20, how on earth do they all survive. I was down the Barras a couple if months ago and there is a pub right in the middle of it, I think it's called Traders. I really wanted to go in for a pint to sample the atmosphere but the mrs wouldn't have it. :-(

I drink there sometimes when I'm over. Got closed down the week before the Ajax game but they're trying to sort it.

  5. It was a right wing salute ...call it a nazi salute or whatever that was used in the '80s when singing Rule Britannia and 'The Queen' at games. With the arrival of PC it was more or less done away with and everybody left a little embarrassed by it all. There is actually a picture of a Rangers fan standing with an Israeli flag giving a nazi salute.

Then there came the Red Hand of Ulster salute excuse. Good luck to anybody doing that at a Loyalist parade in Northern Ireland! A community that takes great pride in the sacrifices they made in destroying National Socialism.
