  1. Here's hoping we some cricket. We're likely to get pumped but I live in ridiculous optimism that we might just snatch it. No doubt to be expunged with 3 quick Anderson wickets tomorrow!
  2. The delights of fourth year continue. Turns out for one of our modules, the coursework has run into various problems. The question doesn't appear to have been externally approved, the coursework requirements were unreasonable given the relatively low word count, it wasn't anonymously marked nor double marked, we all received generic feedback and there wasn't enough "peer reviewed" sources due to the very live nature of the topic. All this amongst other things. Anyway, to cut a long story short we've a meeting next week with the Dean, must be about 50 students involved. I've got absolutely no idea what the outcome of this is going to be. Given it is important for our degree classifications, it's a real worry. Has anyone had similar experience before or experience of this from an academic standpoint? What are the likely outcomes?
  3. Not long finished A History of Scotland by Neil Oliver, as comprehensive a book on the entire history of Scotland as there could be without writing War and Peace. Decent read for a general overview. About halfway through Alex Ferguson's autobiography and meh would be my reaction. Undoubtedly the man's a managerial genius and gets some thoughts across well, but it feels far too rushed, lacking sufficient depth in places where some context and depth would make it a good read. The problem of rushing a book like that to print in under 6 months I suppose but it could be better. Next up is Managing My Life by Fergie, which will no doubt appeal far more given it covers his spell in Scotland.
  4. Brilliant effort from Scotland making it to the 2015 World Cup. Really didn't see it coming, fantastic news
  5. It's Aberdeen in May, there's precisely f**k all chance of that. Now if the game were in April, we'd have a chance - April in Aberdeen tends to have two or three cracking days. Then the rest of summer is crap! Nonetheless, good to see more tickets being bought
  6. I presume it'll be from the same site as me and AberdeenBud got from: http://livesport-shop.theshoppad.com/#/category/cricket-scotland Try that link, tickets should be listed further down the page, click there and purchase to your heart's content.
  7. Just got tickets for the Scotland v England ODI at Mannofield in May. Looking forward to it even if we're likely to get a hiding by a distinctly average England team. Think we might struggle in the Super Six stage if we beat Canada, and as such could struggle to qualify for the 2015 World Cup. Struggling to make progress unfortunately
  8. Meanwhile Scotland fall to inglorious defeat to Hong Kong in their first World Cup qualifier. Aye that's right, Hong bloody Kong
  9. Test Match Special given up the ghost and are more desperate that play continue into tomorrow so that Glenn McGrath's pink Charity fundraising day for cancer takes place. Boycott likely to be in cracking form today.
  10. Aye, you're bang on Lex. KP just doesn't seem to be able to play Siddle, almost as if he relaxed too much after Mitch's spell, it wasn't his first horror shot of the Siddle spell. Fully expect a collapse shortly, Bell and Stokes must dig in for the rest of the day
  11. He definitely had a go at both, Root had "less sense than a chocolate mouse"! KP was the predictable not got a brain to bat with. Great honest punditry, some of our football pundits could take a leaf out his book
  12. I predicted 2-1 England, it looks like I was totally wrong. England look a tired, past it, team and are being ripped apart systematically just now. Aussies have been different class, bowling with aggression, skill and intent and batting sensibly. At this moment, the Ashes are gone and 5-0 already isn't beyond the realms of possibility. Geoffrey Boycott at his brilliant best after the Joe Root dismissal on TMS
  13. Awful news, hope to god everyone gets out safe and well. Been enough ditched helicopters up this neck of the woods over the last few years without any more fatalities
  14. It's an aye from me and has been as long as I have held an interest in politics. We can do far better as a nation and a no vote would lead to stagnation at best.
  15. Don't worry AyrMad, I don't have the inclination to become that pedantic. Just thought it right to add my knowledge to the fray in favour of independence
  16. 96% of Oil, 52% of Gas equaling an overall 94% of hydrocarbon reserves lie within Scottish territorial waters as agreed in 1999 using "the median line". £10.5 billion of tax revenues was raised from Scottish territorial waters in the last financial year, reflecting 96% of Oil and Gas tax revenue intake to the UK treasury. This is the guaranteed fields that will be in Scottish control post a yes vote. And no I'm not Ad Lib, 4th year Uni dissertation this year is on what the energy market may look like post a yes vote.
  17. Gutting for Ireland, deserved to win the game but Sexton's missed kick makes all the difference. If only Scotland could run the All Blacks as close as that
  18. Breakthrough, Broad composed fairly quickly after a nervy first ball. Decent start for England
  19. Think it will end up a 2-1 English win. Hopefully a less competitive series than that though!!! Taken a while but right up for this now. Will listen to TMS an hour before bed, if I watch on Sky I'll stay up all night.
