Oh dear game off, frozen pitch did someone forget to put the covers down

You try and put a cover down the size of a ships sail in gale. FFS! You could have come and just talked hot air all night - that would have helped.

Welcome to the Highland League as they say, its not all plain sailing and thinking you will just turn up and win is a bad mentality to have, like your management team. Teams go to the death here and many a winner, equalizer is scored in the 95th minute ! Your down fall is your own doing, the Broch game at home a great example, you should have been up 6-0 ht.

Haven't you got one more year at it before the backers / sponsors pull out ? Better get yer skates on or you will be in here forever !!

I love all the made up shite. No single backer. Sponsors signed up to 3 years..... seems like if you dont know anything make it up.

    Great club?

Arguably. We had a great 35 years of out performing our Angus neighbours when they were stagnating in the lower reaches of the domestic game. We have more league titles than any of them too.

Admittedly we have imploded in dramatic style over the last 4 years.

We are in a rebuilding mode with new committee, new enthusiasm, better community and business links, better involvement with the youth football of Brechin and a successful share issue.

Many involved are learning as we go along with much achieved against some unrealistic (but not much) expectations. I was under no illusion that it might not be year one or indeed year 2 but we are laying foundations and hopeful avoid the boom and bust.

If there was no new committee there is every chance BCFC might not have existed - some folk forget that.

Was it a scrambled late goal or Brechin hitting the woodwork for 90 minutes against a parked bus kind of day?

P.S. Hearing the goal came from an incorrectly given free kick, but after a fair amount of 2nd half pressure. Sounds like Forres have got their manager merry-go-round in some kind of check and were unlucky not to get away with a point.

    Not a scrambled goal.

We were poor against a pish team who parked the bus and was playing at it the whole game, taking forever to do anything, their manager kicking the ball away etc.. gamesmanship stuff. Despite us being poor we missed many a chance before McHattie lobbed in a volley at the death. Q wild scenes and Bain celebrated wildly in front of there manager.

Nil nil at half time, really poor , should be beating these teams ,worrying that no players came in in January to freshen up the squad, will just drop down the league now.

We have brought in 2 Nathan and Seth. Admittedly after a bloated squad and some shifting about we could do with a couple of midfielders. Anyone would miss Max but watch this space.......

Looks like our season is gone now , a few players left and arguably our best player gone back to his parent club, yet no sign of replacements coming in.

Have Brechin become a really bad club that no one wants to come.

Another season in the highland league beckons.

    And here they come.

The parasite's from under there stones - players have been shipped on cause they were not interested or not good enough. We have little control on parent clubs recalling loanees. We have brought in two; Nathan and Seth with both being more than adequate.  We still have a couple of loan options.

Ewan has also made an impact since getting a chance.

Whats your thoughts on the wins and style we are trying to play? No doubt find something negative to say about that too.

They looked as if they could play a bit as well, or at least a number of them could.

From what I saw on Saturday, if they can keep up that level of performance then I should think Turriff and Strathspey will be looking over their shoulders. I still think they’ll have too much to do but I think they will get take some points off the poorer sides in the league without a doubt.

How long will some of these players stick around though?

Yes they are on short contracts, gotten some local seasonal work (some are students who are inbetween years or finding jobs). A fair chunk of the squad have spare days through the week and are effectively training full time on some days through the week. I also know they have another 4 guys to come in. I wonder if any of there pre rebuild squad are still about or have they all been binned?

Anyways if you played them prior to the rebuild your goal difference will have benefitted, unfortunately ours will not.

    Seriously?!?

Correct, although he did say it was all his own fault. The door was a bit sticky he knelt down to pull it from the bottom and BOOM smacked him square in the beaker. Broken nose. A nice welcome to league for him.

    He was fine.

I personally thought that was a straight red.

So did I and yet nothing, Scissor tackle through the back of someone whilst getting nowhere near the ball. There big number 9 who eventually got sent off should have had a straight red too for launching a head butt at one of our players. Victim got booked for standing his ground. Hey oh.

Agree that if FW can calm the aggression they look like they have enough to get pints off of teams outside top 6 or so.  Nice enough guys off the pitch even if Glebe Park managed to break their managers nose before the game....ouch....

Unless of course your club decided to lift money for no investment in its playing squad and stinked out the division with a record low points total and zero wins all season.

    Which has worked out well.

And your back - missed you irrelevant wisdom.

  10. As a thought to those who have been in HL longer than us.

I was reflecting on what I miss and dont miss from the SPFL. One thing I do miss is that you always had something to play for whether that was promotion or relegation playoffs. Rarely you wnet into the last half dozen games known exactly where you were likely to finish.

In HL it can be pretty much over with half the season (certainly feels that way). I wonder if there is an appetite to change the format for more than the top team getting a playoff opportunity, say top two even.

That said I am not getting a real desire to do anything else than get a HL title to their name.

    Thoughts?

  11. Oh dear. Where to start.

    Maybe best not to.

On a general note, no extra money has been thrown into the playing squad than previous years. Similar budget to previous seasons. The real difficult is trying to attract players of the right calibre and who are prepared to do the traveling. Sure many folk on here have the answer to that one.

We are learning the hard way on how this league works and having the best of everything (in terms of training facilities and travel) is no guarantee for anything.

We like other HL clubs are about to lose some of our loanees back to their parent clubs. I am led to believe they will then be assessed and farmed out to higher league clubs.

We have some wiggle room to bring in a some reinforcements but from where?

I had hoped for a bounce back to SPFL but also recognised that we may need a few years to adjust and get the balance of players required to get out of the league.

    Anyways onwards and upwards.

I very much doubt you'll fail to make double figures.

We, all season have a habit of scoring a few and then stopping. It bit us big time at the weekend. So I would think if we get to 4  or 5 by half time then we will start farting about and not sieze the moment.

Hard to tell much from that about the first sending off apart from it making a hell of a clatter.

Some say it was a clear red and other a yellow, linesman was saying yellow but I suspect the rush of Fraserburgh players swung the decision. The lunge was unnecessary and the rest is history.

On another note are we likely to be the first team to play the 'improved' Fort William? Think their game this weekend is off and we play them the week after. Suspect we have no idea how these new players will be. Might be a mixed bag.

Lets hope its not a banana skin.

    Brechin's in house highlights.

    Painful.

Not much to add that has not been said elsewhere but young guys on loan making mistakes in crucial games is nothing new for us; sending off and possibly keeper for a couple. Oh and Davidson should not be getting sent off either - the game is gone let the guy run through. No idea who will be available for next week.

Massive turnaround required. Dont look to far ahead is my motto. Play each game and if we gain points on any teams each game gr8. Our last 2 games are elgin and albion. I would happily take being 3 points behind with 2 games to go.

Biggest issue for us recently is literally everything and I mean everything has gone against us. Draw 0-0 at home with a perfect legitimate goal in injury time. No person can say otherwise. Following week albion score a last min goal to wi  3 pts. Elgin score a last min goal to grab a point when losing 2 nil at one point. Elgin last game score in 93rd min to win 3 points.

These are things that are huge and we need to make that shift happen somehow.

New signings are incoming. We should never have lost the edinburgh game at home so that was another wee punch in the stanes.

Get behind the lads every game. If we finish bottom then hopefully that will b finishing bottom with putting up a huge fight and comeback eg too little too late rather than being miles behind and having to go in low on confidence.

If we did end up in play off nothing to fear from bonnyrigg rose or fraservurgh or whomever we WILL be a better team by that point 100%.

The season before we went to Championship we won 9 of our last 10 for our Great Escape. However free fall in the last 4 years.

Unfortunately it had to happen for us to take stock of situation; all bar two of the previous committee kicked out and replaced with new ideas and energy. Successful share issue almost complete.

When at bottom of lg2 we always felt hard done by and then it was over (lets not get into our old chairman's attempts at keeping us in Lg2). I am talking on pitch and in a crucial game v Kelty we had a young loanee send off and that was that.

It may take a few years to come out of HL but we are laying the foundations.

And I would not underestimate Fraserburgh - they are grafters and if nothing else battle there way in Lg2. Although not sure they are bothered about that,

The top 6 or 7 teams would probably  hold their own in league 2 .  Below that the standard is very poor. You can see by the table the obvious gulf in quality.

Hard to say how other league 2 sides would fare in this league as I don't think there are many in as bad a state as Brechin were in those last couple of seasons.

Although our team and overall displays have dramatically  improved since our SPFL decline I would say the team still have to get a bit more streetwise . The football we play is sometimes fantastic but the appetite to really finish teams off just isn't there .  Broch showed on Saturday, as they have done on many occasions , a real will to win. If Brechin are to get out of this league then we have to do the same.

We have dropped points against most of the teams at the business end of the league. These teams have been built over time to win  the HL and have experience in the league. We are new and learning some hard lessons along the way as to what is required.

We have all season taken our foot off the gas when the game looked done and dusted - most teams you can get away with that but not the better teams. Take a look at our goal difference, not to the level of others (tho we still have FW to play twice). Point is we start flapping about once we get what is considered a winnable position, where as we should keep going.

We have an inexperienced manager too and a squad of players who are all pretty much new to this. Much as it pains, year one was always likely to be a learning process. I was confident we would be competitive but always new automatic promotion would not be a given.

Don't think Fraserbugh will drop 7 points and tall order for us to win every game. Its theirs to loose.

As things stand right now in terms of the new rules no, but the old rules didn't stop them from trying to barge their way in last year with SFA help so time will tell.

Aye but the Lowland league quite happy to have the ugly sisters in. Despite weekends result I am quite enjoying the HL.

What is being built at Brechin does not and will not depend on what happens this year, as painful as Saturday was we are still on track for improvement. Granted on the pitch success may not happen this year but we are building and it will arrive.

  18. The 500 would not impact much on Highland League games, maybe for Brechin, Buckie and Fraserburgh where crowds are around this number. Most grounds I have been at could accommodate this number with spacing. Spectators also seem to be making decisions by not attending to protect themselves.

We play Fraserburgh on the 3rd Jan, remains to be seen if travelling supporters will be banned, possible decision at the various meetings happening today. My links with NHS suggest that their modelling shows we are not near the peak and merely in the foothills. The reintroduced restrictions might be enough to get on top of the Omricon variant and save the season. If not then there might be an intermediate stage of no crowds before a total ban.

    Time will tell

See post on our facebook  that Max is not being allowed to play by St Johnstone against Darvel that would be a major blow

Not sure where you are seeing this. As there is nothing in the most up to date other than discussions ongoing. Although I suspect it will be a no in case they are needed at St Johnston, good as he and Jack Wills have been, dont see them in St J first team this season.
