  1. If he signs a one-year deal then as much as it will be good to have another year of him in the team, that's us effectively signing away our rights to any revenue/compensation. If we are thinking of profiting out of him, then it would need to be at least a two-year deal and sadly I really can't see that happening.
  2. GK: Dean Brill - arrived badly out of shape and left us wondering how bad he must be if Samson was dropping one in most weeks and he couldn't get a game. Left in the January without ever playing. RB: Ange Oueifio - Central African Republic defender signed by Billy Davies on a two-year deal who was made redundant when we went into administration having not played in over a year. CB: Daniel Sengewald - the only thing memorable about him was the fact he managed to remain on the bookies first goalscorer list years after he left. CB: Franck Bernhard - According to wiki, signed on March 16th, made redundant on April 29th in the admin era. God knows why we were still signing folk six weeks before it. LB: Franz Resch - one half of a curious Austrian duo signed by McLeish in the summer of 1997 who lasted about a month. Promising left-back Stephen McMillan had to be pushed into midfield to accommodate him whilst he was here. CM: Paul Harvey - I remember that he was a wee ginger guy and that he played for us, but I struggle to remember anything he ever done in a game. CM: Brian McClair (the second time) - I was eight when he signed and thought that us signing someone from Man Utd would automatically make him quality. Unfortunately, I wasn't old enough to realise his career had already been on the wind down for several seasons. He retired around October. CM: Jake Taylor - I forgot he played with us even whilst I was present at games when he was playing. There wasn't even any past tense about this one. FW: Ross McCormack (the second time) - Signed on loan in January after an awful first half to the 18/19 season, in both results and performances. The hype was big and we thought he could be the catalyst to turn things around. Was hooked after 45 mins on his debut in the Scottish Cup and managed less than 45 minutes accumulatively over three sub appearances in the league. Around that time David Turnbull started to show his brilliance and Jake Hastie went on his purple patch as we won six in a row and by the time he was back down at Villa for "treatment", he had genuinely been forgotten. FW: Lewis Grabban - Accumulated 18m in transfer fees over his career and was the star man in the "Sunderland till I die" documentary at one point, but managed less than an hour of fitba in a six-month loan at Fir Park. Often didn't even make the bench. FW: Neil Tarrant - was on loan during the 2001/02 season, I think that's actually the only notable thing I can say.
  3. Maybe David Turnbull and Robbie Crawford will be the modern day equivalent of the deadline day where we lost Faddy and ended up with Jason Dair. Despite that looking like horrific business on paper, we went on to do well that season.
  4. Hopefully we can get him on board in time for any post-split, meaningless games against Hamilton Accies. That's when he's properly at his best.
  5. Reading the graphic gives it more sense. I was always sure it was "23 and under" meaning he'd just qualify, but as the clause states, that won't be the first season in which he has been 23, so this summer will be our last chance for compensation. Providing he doesn't do a Cadden, would we be expecting a decent wedge? Just thinking based on us getting £550k for Erwin when he played 38 games for us.
  6. Anders Frisk it was, Swiss guy. Popped up at a couple of major tournaments after it.
  7. Campbell has been absolutely outstanding for us since the second he came into the first team, but what you need to consider is that the Championship and League One in England is full of physical, driven, terrier type midfielders and players like Turnbull who have that "can't be taught" natural ability about them are much harder to come by. If he signs a one-year extension, I honestly can't see a team using that as grounds to come in with say an £800k bid (figure plucked from nowhere in particular) when they can just wait six months and sign him on a pre-contract. I think the chances of him signing a two-year deal are even slimmer. He'll probably get the best value for himself (in terms of wages and signing on fee) from not signing a new deal and I don't begrudge him it. Edit - just checked and was he to sign a one-year deal, it looks like we would still be entitled to compensation as his contract would expire five days before he turned 24, that's good timing. Also when I was looking at what the compensation rules actually are, look who appeared as a case study. The bold Tony.
  8. There will be no shortage of takers for Campbell next summer when his deal is up. He's not unproven, 100+ games, several under 21 caps, 22 years old, adding goals to his game etc. I don't see why he would sign a new deal with a release clause in it when he's free to move where he likes to double his wage this summer anyway. I think we should just enjoy him while we can and be thankful we'll get training compensation when the time comes.
  9. Semple is supposed to be a highly thought of prospect and has done well in the first team before. I’d like to think a time like now is when he’d get the odd opportunity.
  10. Sadly I do. Freezing Boxing Day at Fir Park, Peter MacDonald hat-trick. 3-1 defeat for us which ultimately got Jim Gannon the sack.
  11. If you are turning on at 13:55 for sportsound, I highly doubt you could find anything that irritable that you would feel the need to go online and express your opinion of it. Before that, other channels and the mute button are available. If I was listening to something that I didn't like on a weekly basis, I would stop listening to it and then the problem would be removed from my life. Strange behaviour from people in this thread who's posts seem to take the "it was shite again this week" tone.
  12. It's funny how so many people in this thread seem intent on listening to something that they don't enjoy, followed by posting their opinion of it on the internet.
  13. I'm not sure what our sell on % was but I suppose income is income, even if it less than we expected. As much as the administration has played a part, the one year left on his contract would probably have stopped it being that much more anyway.
  14. A reported £1m, virtually what we got paid for him. Wigan being in administration and him having a year left on his deal would no doubt have played a part. If Leicester had kept him on and loaned him to us, then Wigan and sold him to West Brom, the transfer would probably have come to about £10 million.
  15. Was also left trying to do the maths after Jake Hastie claimed he was nine years old when we played Llanelli in 2009 and still nine when we play Panathinaikos in 2012. I hope he's got a financial adviser/accountant that deals with that five grand a week he gets.
  16. That's positive. I'm sure the "six weeks out" that was suggested for him would take him until the Aberdeen game. Robinson previously said Carroll was due back in October too, hope that's still on track.
  17. I think O'Hara has potential to be a good player. But he's not a holding midfielder, not as good a box-to-box midfielder as Campbell and not technically as good as Polworth. Which means for me he's probably first sub when Donnelly is fit. This article here from getting moved to midfield at Dundee in the record shows he doesn't think he's a defensive midfielder either. I think he has potential to be useful further up the pitch, but he doesn't have the capabilities to play in a role where he has defensive responsibilities. That's two weeks in a row he's switched off and it's cost us. I don't know what's happening with O'Donnell's contract, but if we were to get him and Carroll fit and playing as the wing-backs, McGinley in for Mugabi (he's done ok but lets face it, he'll never be first choice). Donnelly, Polworth and Campbell in midfield and then two of Watt/Long/Lang up front, I think that would be a good way to go. However, I think it's possible there are too many injury and short-term contract variables to ever see that team on the pitch at once.
  18. I thought we were actually very organised in the first half yesterday and restricted Celtic to playing around us. I'm not sure if I'm aggrieved about anything in the first goal, just wish we could have held out until half-time with a 0-0. The second goal was criminal switching off from O'Hara and not the first time we've seen it. I wouldn't mind him playing a more advanced role but as far as the DM role goes, the sooner Donnelly is back the better. The third goal was just plain frustrating with Hylton giving the ball away cheaply in their half, followed by the counter attack. Nothing massively different from what you'd expect and not catastrophic, but it's still worrying not to have a win before the first international break.
  19. Yeah, I'd agree with this. I think Donnelly's range of passing, coupled with the fact he doesn't seem to want to wander much from that position, makes him the best candidate for that role. I watched most of O'Hara's Dundee goals on YouTube not long ago and it seems any time he was influential for them it was getting himself into the box, I actually think he himself would prefer to play in one of the two further forward roles himself. He actually had a decent goalscoring rate at Dundee (I'm sure it was 5 one season and 6 the other). I think he's one of those guys who's decent at all aspects of playing as a central midfielder without being amazing at any of them. He's probably versatile enough in that he could fill in ably for Donnelly, Campbell and Polworth, but I'd still start all three ahead of him. It is also worth mentioning he committed the cardinal sin of hitting the wall with a free-kick last night. I am also dumbfounded when professional footballers can't get a ball over a wall.
  20. I think we sold Elliott for just under quarter of a million and Deloumeaux for about fifty grand. Which made sense as it got money in the door early on for two more developed players, whilst not rushing to sell McFadden or Pearson on the cheap. I would've said Polworth was about the only outfield player to come out of the first half with real credit for me. What I quite liked about him last night was his quick passing, there was a couple of times where he managed a one touch through ball. As for Grimshaw, I have always been reluctant to criticise players who put 100% in every week, but this season I'm finding it tough to have many positive words about him. It seemed last night that the two options were him playing an easy, no risk pass or giving the ball away. I lamented him at one point when he and Campbell were back for a corner and as he was being closed down, he could have passed it to Campbell and restart the attack, but took the easy option and went back to Carson. Then obviously the next time he tried a risky pass it started an attack for Glentoran. Pains me to say it as he's such a likeable guy, but we instantly got better when he went off.
  21. To be fair, I can see this being a game where we grab a plucky, industrious 0-0 or 1-1 draw after last night's win in Europe, only to be beaten by St. Johnstone in our next game and still be without a win on September 12th...
  22. Yeah definitely agree with the idea of using it to extend Gallagher and Campbell's deals. However, I imagine both of their agents will be advising them against signing new deals so they can walk away for free next summer (compensation in Campbell's case). I wonder if we were waiting on this going through before offering O'Donnell a deal longer than the transfer window. In terms of bringing new bodies in, I still think the squad needs to be streamlined before we add anyone new. I don't care how much money we have in the bank, the Baraclough approach of constantly signing more players in hope of finding a good one doesn't work. Robinson will be stuck tonight when it's three subs from seven.
  23. To add to the assists that did register, Gallagher got three assists last season and all of them were heading Polworth set pieces in the direction of the eventual goalscorer. So that's another three above his own assists. In fact, my only issue with Turnbull this season is that we haven't threatened from any of his corners really. So I'd probably go polar opposite and say can we keep Polworth's set pieces and give him the rest of Turnbull's game...
  24. I can see your point to an extent. But unfortunately our place in the footballing world is selling to the club who get the chance to make the real money off him. Bigger clubs, down south or further afield will be far more willing to pay the fees you mention after they've seen him win trophies, play well in Old Firm and European games. I think he didn't play the full season is a bit generous. He played in 31 games. His 15 goals included, Dundee x4 (relegated), St. Mirren x2 (playoffs), Accies x3 (10th), Livingston x2 (9th) and St. Johstone (7th). So these scouts have hardly seen him properly flourish in a game against Celtic or Rangers. Only 3 of his goals were against top six sides, one of which was a free-kick the Hearts 'keeper dropped in. Add to that two knee operations by the time he's 21. I've absolutely loved watching playing for us and it'll be a tough watch to see him play for that mob, but I really can not grasp people thinking £3.25 million plus add ons isn't good business.
