  1. Problem is hes pissing away the money hes got. How many of us would actually trust him with more cash if hes happy to sign players of the standard of Harris, Kerr,Watson and Shepherd? If you've got a tight budget then its even more important that you don't waste any of it. Signing these players back up is the easy option and again makes it look like the manager cant really be arsed putting in the leg work to get better players in instead.
We all know that McKee is injury prone. He's hardly lasted a full competitive fixture since signed last January. And if Finlayson isnt ready for the first team at 19 then when will he ever be.

Trouble with this is we've been saying the same for the last 2 years.
Houston's record has been masked over the last 2 years with respectable 2nd place finishes. However in each of these season one of the favoured team have gone a bad runs - DU last season and Hibs the season before that.
It's just same old same old I'm afraid
  2. Football is a funny old game eh? Two weeks ago Falkirk were knocking back bids from Man Utd for Gallagher while Sibbald was overrated and you didn't need him to steamroller the league.

Tbf, I think we need more than Sibbald to steamrole the league.
I'm not sure he'd had made much difference tonight as the team looked lost all over the park. Livi were fit, hungry and made our team look limp not to mention their physicality and that was evident right through the whole team.
We looked jaded like we'd just finished a grueling long hard season.

We need to sign a striker, left back, right back. How many attempts did Austin, Miller, Hippolyte, Shepherd and Loy game tonight, I can remember any, did they?
If we have no money to change it were totally fucked,

Atrocious stuff, well worthy Livingston and great value for money, teamwork at its best, their management team deserve immense credit!
  3. Yes and thats okay if we're happy to piss about in the playoffs again this year finish top 4 and then get pumped out and find we're still in this league for what the 9th season on the trot but I for one would like us to actually make a decent effort to win the league and gain automatic promotion this season. We don't have time therefore to wait for him or anyone else to get up to speed I'm afraid . Our team should be ready for the off day one and hitting the ground running. It was different in Kingsleys time when we're finishing 27 points behind Ross County and able to give inexperienced players games but if we want to win the league we havent got that luxury.

    Great post. Absolutely

We cannot continue dropping points to DU, game one and already 3 points behind. It wasn't only Gallagher that was not at the races on Saturday. Kerr leadership? No chance, Grant, shadow of a player pre injury - tends just to lump the ball anyway he is facing, distribution awful. Harris and Hippo, was they playing at all after the first 25? Muirhead - again lost the plot making any slim chance we had impossible, McKee anonymous. Thomson had better days but generally been good. Houston... That 3rd sub, deary me - damage limitation. Talking of Gasporatto, thought he had gained some weight since last time he played.
I've said before we are lightweight up front and this showed on Saturday. Loy's injury and Austin's taken off gave us an insight into what we can expect as the season progresses. Lee Miller - time to focus on coaching for him. Shepherd and rarely tried O'Hara are not going to have defences quaking in their boots this season.
IMO we are not strong enough or invested enough to win this league outright. Play offs are our best option again unless we are lucky and DU are poor which I doubt as they have shown intent, belief and a wee bit of investment. They are actually showing us they are planning to WIN the championship this year. As they say "fortune favours the brave" and we are not in that club just now.

Look at all the silly points we dropped last season and we cannot afford to do the same again this year or the league will be over by March
  4. when Houston said he spoke to him for advice when he was interviewed then there and then its not right if he had doubts at the start, I couldnt fault Sibbs at all just been unfortunate the way its been panned out as he seems to be stuck between club and agent.

I sometimes wonder about our board if they genuinely want us to be in the Premiership or are content with a challenge each year in the championship and selling a player/cashing in to keep things on track for a bit cash.

Said this for years, the playoffs always appear to be our limit and focus.

IMO, DU have their sights set to get out this league this season despite all the skint stories etc.

Although we have started well this season we still do not appear to have that "this is our time" feel as our signing actions have suggested to me. Not trying to be controversial or on the wind up here, still think we are well short of champions material. The only hope we have is DU mirror last season's miserable performance.

Remember this is only my own opinion. We could be doing with another RB, LB and another decent striker - not another import from the under 20s. Loy apart up front and Austin as a developing back up we are still light weight. I can't in my wildest dreams imagine O'Hara, Shepherd and Hippo ever going to score enough goals that will allow us to win this league outright.

I think the BOD agree with me too, winning the league will take more investment and I think we had our fingers burned in the past and are frightened to go there again.
  5. I think if Sibbald goes the board will trouser the money and give Houstie eff all to spend. They'll probably use our swashbuckling start to the season without him, albeit against lesser opposition, as justification.

I hope not as I think we are still sort of quality to allow us too win the league outright.

One of my main worries is up front. Loy was an inspired signing but feel we need more. Miller is past it as a player, an impact sub at best.
Austin, O'Hara and Shepherd to me still need to show me more and of course a long season ahead when the going gets tough and injuries kick in etc.

I think we need another striker more than a player in and other position in the team. If we are seriously pushing to win the league this year then we still need to spend more. Otherwise it may be silver medal again.
  6. Surprises me that Luton are the only team that is showing any intention given the fact that lower league England have got the finances to buy cheap prospects. This situation will not be lost on them as it appears they are the only interested party and this will give us little leverage in any potential tribunal situation. Disappointed if this is the case

  7. Good signing for Falkirk. Should score plenty of goals.

Love that he's got everyone buying the "only club for me" chat  Would have happily been in Paisley if they offered more.

Yes but that's footballers in general for you. He was hardly ever gonna say "it's good to be back at Falkirk but if anyone was willing to give me more dosh then I would have signed for them coz I'm a greedy b*****d"

There's only one team I wanted to play for blah blah blah

  8. That a joke question?
Clearly folk want to be encouraged by quality signings. It's not rocket science, despite the boards difficulty with this concept.

It's not a difficult concept, the board have been maligned for selling players after the early bird offer, why would they not act quickly and make a couple of decent signings to get the ST's moving or do they feel that we cannot sell many more tickets than last season, have we peaked?
  9. honestly wish you would gtf go support some other team with another manager and another board or just limit your life to one f you are f*cking tedious

Bottom line it's a fans forum and it is everyone's right to give their opinions. Just because do people have differing views does not mean they are wrong our should be told to go support someone else etc!

Every view is different and as times go past, people can actually change their views. I would have ditched Houston a long time ago BUT I must concede he has done really well since he took over given the strength of teams in the league at these times, sure we're carried some luck along the way but the records never lie so we've finished second in the league for 2 seasons now. If we finish 2nd again this season, will many see this as failure?

Good exchange of views should always be welcomed IMO

WE NEED AS MANY BAIRNS AS POSSIBLE!!!
  10. Edited to add a couple of decent signings would tip me over the edge. Even a loy would do

The more of our players sign on from lady season, the less chances of and spending spree. Unfortunately finishing second last 2 season will I'm sure give our BOD a false dawn and like many on here have said papered over the cracks.

I like many on here am not parting with any cash until I see what our intentions and ambitions are.

I don't want another bored to death almost every Saturday playing pedestrian football. I'm not being conned this season
  11.

I think overall he has made more poor signings than good but that for me is the difficulty of the market we operate in, so I can cut him a little slack. Also he did bring the sexy back with BSLM, so that another plus.

However you mention Craigen and his case exemplifies why I would prefer he went. It has taken Houston almost an entire season to get him in a position that suits him & the team! His stubborn streak is a self imposed restriction and one that has cost us. To persist with Muirhead at right back, to continue playing Kerr and Taiwo together, to think Baird and Bob was a great partnership has been bewildering. It has meant that he once again has had to preform recovery subs to try and get something out of games when we should be winning. It worked last season, but didn't this. Best manager in the league! A better manager would have had us out of the league. But you are correct we will be challenging next year & more than likely the year after that, unfortunately more than likely still in the Championship.

I think Houston has done ok but I'm afraid he has blown it for us and don't think he'll ever get us out of this league.

One up against DU at home and our usual tactics came back to haunt us, we're never good at defending a single goal lead

SC final, tactics let us down again against a tired ICT who looked dead on their feet, we attacked pushing for the winner where some managers would have kept it solid and take the extra 30 minutes ET.

Murdered at Killie due to a lightweight team last season with promises of buying more physical players that never materialised.

Poor signings, poor partnerships on the park, favoritism towards out of form players, snail pace football out of position players, stubborn tactics.

I can't see much changing soon, same old same old... Pre season wondering who is coming in, who is going, penny pinching, scared to open the biscuit tin, Looney chairman, no ambition, play offs best target as better budget DU are still in our league, so let's try to do it on the cheap and slink to the big league via the back door or hope for league reconstruction.

Some poxy community initiatives to please everyone with little or no bearing on the most important thing about a football club... The 11 men on the park each week.

Apart from that I'm extremely happy. Come on Ye Bairns[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

  12. Leahy played in the number 10 role during preseason in the Highlands and did well enough to get a contract on the back of that. He then spent the next two years playing the part of a not-very-good midfielder. TBH, he should have been released at the end of his contract before Holt inexplicably gave him a new deal just before returning South.

I think Houston deserves a lot of credit because he turned Leahy into a very decent left back who did a reasonable job of replacing Kingsley. That's one of the things I like about Houston - he takes average players and makes them better, as he did with the two mentioned above. I have a suspicion that now he's survived his first season as a full timer Austin will be very good for us next year.

I thought Luke Leahy developed into a decent LB, his weakness was pace defending but had really good pace going forward? For a player his size he was very good in the air too.

Was dropped unfairly last season to accommodate Gallagher and put him in the shop window.

4 or 5 top drawer goals from a LB cannot be understated... When he scored, he definitely scored, no tap ins for him[emoji3]

Sorry to see the lad go and all the best to him. His commitment was unquestionable

  13. He won't. He's done, has been for 18 months.

You can never predict, football is a funny old game as they say but he is getting older, good strikers need pace and he has none, don't know how he is able to turn around his hustling bustling style into what we as a team need, a striker who can net 20 plus per season, l can't even see how we could use him as an impact player.

It's clear to me his time is up I'm afraid.

IF we want to well this league we need much better, brutal I know but that's reality. We need to spend some cash, it's as simple as that Austin, O Hara and Shepherd are not the answer either, they'll play their part but we need more
  14. Can't believe why there is so much debate regarding John Baird. There are teams in this league would snap him up. He is a nice guy, puts in a shift each game, is fully committed but we are in a results based industry and we simply need better, both him McHugh don't give us a good return placing more pressure on Austin, Miller and the midfielders to grab vital goals.
One word of caution, Austin is new and inexperienced, he was injury prone last season, let's not get carried away, he's had a couple of decent games and crucial goals but he is miles away from what we need, the game against DU showed us that where he was anonymous.
Houston will need to get it correct this time and stop wasting money on wages where we get little return.

  15. If we have any sort of ambition we must compete with our rivals. Failure to gain promotion next year would be potentially disastrous. Can't keep serving up the same old mediocrity and expect the fans to blindly buy it.

    Agree 100%

But we'll need to shift some players to free up budget. The big squad we bleated about all season made not one jot of impact in the home tie against a 'tired' DU last Friday.

Get the quality in and ship out the hasbeens!!!

Get the purse strings opened please
  16. It's an obvious one I know, but I'd like to think if Loy leaves Dundee we'd offer him something. We know what he's about, intelligent player that brings others into the game and scores a good few. Would be a great foil for Austin

I think St Mirren may want first dibs here and with our wage structure, can we compete?
