Disappointing BUT first bad result since November.

The problem being that that bad result in November also happened to be an important game in front of a large crowd against our biggest rival. Unfortunately there is absolutely nothing coincidental about that. These are the type of the games that make and break title challenges. In three promotion seasons under Jefferies (2) and McCall we lost 1 out of 14 against a direct title rival. We simply do not win these games any more. It's perfectly legitimate to be pleased with the progress and improvement made this season whilst simultaneously pissed off with our never-ending and all too predictable no shows in the games that really matter. I've lost count of how many times this happens, but basically every time.

Circumstances leading into this game could not have been any better really - good run of form, confidence high, genuine strength in depth and options available on the bench. Yet we never laid a glove on them. Again. That's concerning, especially in light of another high-pressure game on the horizon on Monday. We really could do with finding some bottle and quickly.

    Thought Nesbitt was brilliant

Credit where it's due, if he's had a better 90 minutes in a Falkirk shirt I cannot remember it. Very good performance. Same for Kennedy and Morrison, Airdrie could not handle them at all 2nd half. Morrison's run deserved a goal.

Great result after a rocky start suggested another bottle job might be on the cards. Penalty save was crucial and we stepped it up massively second half, should have been four or five in the end. Very comfortable.

Probably not too many Airdrie fans kicking around here for the rest of the weekend. Shame.

Tuned in this morning to a view from the terrace and very surprised and disappointed to see the Darvel Falkirk game wasnt even mentioned. Especially when they did a complete review of the Scottish cup games, the Darvel manager was the featured guest last week, they tipped darvel in the banker and the game was live on the BBC! Also 6 goals, sending off and media attention. Poor from a programme I really enjoy

Did you really expect anything different when the show is presented by a bunch of bitter, Falkirk-obsessed supporters of absolute nothing wee outfits such as Raith Rovers and Stenhousemuir ?

As much as you hate to say it, you’ve almost got to hold your hands up say fair play tbh. It’s still not over but it’s definitely theirs to lose now.

No "almost" about it to be honest. That's why they will win the league and probably with a bit to spare. Bottle.

Had we beaten Dunfermline at home in November the gap would currently be one point instead of seven. That's how damaging our complete and ongoing inability to win the big games against direct rivals is. Until we start rectifying that, it's always going to be a struggle to get out of this league.

They've pissed it and shown up the standard of this "really tough league" for what it is. Fair play.

Can’t say I’m shocked that the bitter, Stenny w****r on that show wants us to get beat. Had no real issues with Stenny (barring them delaying putting the Ochilview roof on we donated to them back in 2003) until he came along but hopefully we pump them silly on Monday & Stenny continue to be L2 jobbers.

Like so many fans of other teams these days, he's far, far more interested (make that obsessed) in what we are doing than anything his own wee mob are up to. Which given he supports Stenhousemuir, probably won't be very much. All about the Falkirk. Quite funny really.

Was just going to ask that - perhaps @Kelheartcan say if KH is as fit to blow his stack every week or if it's just us.

I'd be amazed if he was the same absolutely raging mess against any other side tbh. Or anything close to it.

I've never been able to work out what his problem is. My (vague) recollection of his time at Falkirk is that he was signed by Pressley, was generally pish in his first season, had a very good first half of the following season, culminating in his performance against Celtic in the League Cup s/f at Hampden which earned him a move to Huddersfield Town and no doubt a significant pay hike. Not much to be pissed off about there. Maybe I'm missing something.

    Basically, guy's an idiot.

Can't see any way back for Lawal with the Meekison signing though, McGlynn didn't fancy him before to start and now we have Nesbitt and Meekison in the same role.  A shame as rated Lawal from the flashes we saw.

I'd be massively disappointed if that turns out to be the case. Fair enough, he struggled for game time for the first few months, but, when finally given his opportunity, he showed exactly what he was about, able to pick up the ball in midfield and drive right at the heart of a defence. Capable of scoring as few as well. Really like him and I would not be discarding him so prematurely. Injuries, suspension, loss of form - we'll need a squad if we are to get to where we want to go. In all honesty, I'd want him back to fitness and available for selection as soon as possible. Can never have enough options. To that end, if's there's one further bit of business to be done it's surely got to be holding onto Kennedy for the remainder of the season. For all that today's business is incredibly promising - on paper - losing Kennedy would be a real blow. Probably would not have been saying that eight weeks ago, but much improved now.

In the summer I decided to start keeping a note of the predictions, just because I was curious to see who was genuinely ITK and who was at it.

You are joking I presume ? If not, well, I don't think I have the vocabulary to describe how strange this is. Utterly, utterly bizarre behaviour.

What would you rather have, us getting promoted this season OR beating Darvel in the next round of the cup?

Why does it have to be one or the other? I'd view both as perfectly realistic objectives.

If they aren't, just shut the doors and forget the whole enterprise.

You'd genuinely think we were facing a trip to the Etihad or Bernabeu the way some are going on.

I fully expect us to both beat Darvel and get out out of this utter shit tip of a league at the fourth time of asking.

    Anything less is failure.

Yes, you're correct, it doesn't make much sense to me. I didn't say that it wouldn't make sense to the people who haven't signed up.

Please don't try to put words into my mouth either, I did not suggest that any Falkirk fan should reproach themselves for not getting involved.

You've been openly asking on here for the reasons why people have not signed up.

And the simplest answer - in the politest possible terms - is that is it absolutely none of your - or anyone else's - business. It is not for you to understand

The whole "buying a season ticket/paying at the gate/going home and away is no longer enough" uberfan w****r narrative that intermittently rears its head can just get so, so, so far into the sea. And stay there.

  11. 5 minutes ago, ShaggerG said:

You're contradicting yourself a wee bit here IMO. We're attracting a support of just under 4000 who must be happy to buy a season or pay £18 or £20 at the gate yet they're unwilling to invest the equivalent of £2.30 a week on top? That doesn't make much sense to me.

Why does it not make much sense? There could be a million and one reasons - financial or otherwise - why they may have made that decision. None of them need to make any sense to you. They'll make sense to them, that's all that counts. It's called personal choice.

The last group of fans on this earth that need to reproach themselves for the support provided to their club is the Falkirk support.

Think people are missing the point of Oliver in this side. He’s not there to be a goal scoring striker he’s there to link up the play and bring the wingers into the game which I think he does very well. Although he doesn’t have the sharp finishing you’d expect of a lone striker, we wouldn’t have had half as many chances as we do with him not there.

He's playing up front for Falkirk against some truly terrible opposition in the third tier of Scottish football. He should therefore be absolutely capable of scoring goals, and the fact that he isn't is the reason fans simply don't rate him. I cannot understand this "either or" type argument that his cheerleaders are putting forward. He should be able to do both. Juan Alegria, in the first home game against QOS in August, was on the park for about 55 minutes, during which he scored one, created another and never gave their centre halves a single moment of respite. He was superb that day, that was the standard, and whilst by no means consistent, he could offer a bit of everything, physicality, ability to hold up the ball and genuine threat to the opposition. Oliver lacks the latter and is no where near the same level. Not even close. Whilst you'll get away with that against a rancid Clyde team, you won't against any sort of semi-competent opposition. Alegria to Oliver is such a downgrade.

Oliver had a decent enough game today, but we've now got a far tougher run of fixtures on the horizon and far better is needed. Hopefully that is addressed this week with the addition of a proper centre forward, preferably one who is now miles down the pecking order at Tynecastle.

That's the Jambos signed another striker…

I'd be pretty surprised if an enquiry has not been made to Hearts with regard to Henderson. I'd also be pretty surprised if numerous other clubs have not also made the exact same enquiry. He is clearly not going to make the breakthrough at Tynecastle.

If there's one player I'd like to see us bring in this month, it's him, without a doubt.

  14. 1 hour ago, SouthStander1876 said:

Obviously very much in the minority, but I'd have absolutely no interest in him returning. He had an excellent debut, looked decent his first couple of games, unfortunate to be injured early on, but after that offered nothing more than the (very) occasional flash. Did nothing at all at Cappielow and summation of Morton fans from his time there was "complete sand dancer" . I don't see what he offers that's any different or of an upgrade on what we already have. If Alegria is gone we are crying out for someone with a bit of physicality and presence up top. Oliver's performance on Saturday simply highlighted how woefully lacking we are in these qualities.

Given the limitations of the financial situation, he'd be way down the list of priorities. Absolutely no thanks.

Another poster said the Board should go if it’s true so I was replying to that!

The same poster who, last summer, spent weeks and weeks peddling his "boardroom leaks" theory which, to the surprise of absolutely no-one, turned out to be complete, utter and total nonsense.

If you're still paying the slightest bit of attention of him - don't bother.

But you said there would be no financial penalty to the club by having these conversations.
Of course paying them off and bringing in better players is preferable but it costs money.
It is not McGlynn being brave or not it the financials in the main IMO will drive these decisions

Eh? Who said anything about "paying off players"? It certainly wasn't me anyway.

The idea that McGlynn simply sitting down with a few players for an honest conversation about their future would automatically, inevitably lead to the club being disadvantaged on a financial level is simply nonsensical. There are numerous possible outcomes to such a scenario, none of which would leave the club any worse off, and some the opposite.

  17. 2 hours ago, Back Post Misses said:

So he tells them that and they say fine I will just sit tight and see put my contract and take the cash?
If anyone who has a contract now the reality is you will have to pay at least a proportion of it to move players on. That is the reality. Having that conversation comes at a cost sadly

Paying them a proportion of their wage - in return for nothing - between now and the expiry of their contracts is still preferable to paying them their full wage.

  18. 11 minutes ago, Back Post Misses said:

There is a difference in making the hard calls and the affordability.
If McGlynn could have do you not think he would have cleared virtually all of them last summer? Personally I do but finance dictated he was stuck with them.

Six months left on contracts may make things a bit easier now hopefully.

The hard call to which I referred is the decision to tell a McGuffie/Nesbitt/McKay whoever that they are not part of the plans going forward and free to look for another club. That, at least, can be done without a financial cost to the club.

  19. 43 minutes ago, PedroMoutinho said:

If he really wants to free up funds he will need to look at players like Hetherington, Mcguffie and Nesbitt. Is he prepared to get rid of them?

If he isn't, then in all honesty, he is not much use to us. Managers are paid to make hard, unsentimental decisions. That's the job. I'd like to think someone of McGlynn's experience has now had enough time to fully evaluate what he has at his disposal and realise that the make-up, and probably even more crucially, the mentality of too many of the current lot simply will not take us where we want to go.

Moving on players (and there's 2 or 3 of his own signings I would not be remotely sorry to see the back of) and freshening up the squad is a hell of a task, but every effort has to be made. Otherwise it's a fifth consecutive season at this level.
