Bricking a 3 nil lead at home with less than half a game to play doesn't help. The absolute worst you should have got out that was a draw. It makes your point today seem bittersweet no? We bossed them first half at EEP they were better second half. The game at our place was dugshite but Wighton scored with a free header. We are more than capable of beating them twice. They will feel the same about beating us. All to play for yet.

Airdrie could well kill the title race next week though 😜

At least, unlike some pars fans, you’ll know not to leave early regardless of any Airdrie lead!!!

  2. That was an entertaining double header.

When we click we can be really incisive in our passing and can press well. Don’t have the resources of Falkirk and Dunfermline but glad to see us compete twice.

Dunfermline were more powerful and in both games that told.

Would really like to see the off the inside of the post header from Fordyce. Watching it I thought it must have crossed the line given how long it took to claw back.

also thought the first yellow for Rae was a bit harsh. From the Pats review clip he was bundled over by 3 Dunfermline players pretty quickly after the goal. Not sure what his crime was. No complaints on the second and I did raise a smile that it could well have been 4 bookings in 2 weeks for him.

pars don’t like Hutton but he was always decent for us previously. Won’t be the worst keeper we’ll see this year!!

Although I’m sure like the footage last week, we’ll still all argue about the decisions anyway.

I've just put up the frame of just after he gathers it for a second time and he's in the D.

I don’t think you can say all the ball is over all of the line in any of the images. I though he did really well to manoeuvre himself to let his legs go forward and keep the ball back as far as he could.

One thing I’ll not dispute though, he looked guilty as sin after it!

Like most fans, I don’t know the rules of the game. If you gather the ball as a keeper in the box and your momentum takes you out, it’s not necessarily a card of any colour.

Interpretation seems to be that the Goal Scoring Opportunity was denied legally. It’s then just a hand ball outside of the box and that isn’t always a card.

    Who’d be a ref!?

But his intent was to prevent Wighton getting a goal scoring opportunity. You understand that, yes? Or did he just knock it away with his hands for a laugh?

I know we support the opposing teams here, but that’s genuinely not how I see the incident. I don’t think there’s any chance Smith can have the understanding of what’s going on around him.

I think he probably suffered for the ref not sending off the goalie with a second yellow

Lol, one of those ones were the keeper has the best view and if he's inside the box he stays to prove a point. He shits himself and should have been shown a second yellow.

Checking IFAB this morning… that’s not necessarily the rule though. So if you accept he was out of the box, which is tight. It can just be a foul.

Keeper should 100% been off the linesman had a great view of it.

Although it was never going to happen the referee could have booked him for taking his time with the re-starts he had a word in his ear and had a few opportunities after that to flash a second yellow. But would have been very unlikely indeed.

Just put the screen grabs from highlights on the match thread. Ball looks in from every frame I can grab.

Would like some clarity on it, because there was nothing wrong with it from my angle. Defender looked to have fucked it, judges it all wrong and Wighton takes advantage. Unless he was offside but think it was given as a foul.

Your keeper was definitely outside the box and he should have walked. As much as Airdrie put us under pressure and deserved their lead, the referee did help you along a bit right up until the sending off, which we took full advantage of. We could have scored more than 4 after it tbh.

    Highlights are up.

there’s actually a very clear shove in the build up which isn’t given, the goal scorer gives the gentlest of nudges which he probably didn’t need to do. Soft, but it’s the goal scorers fault.

as best as I can I’ve gone frame by frame on the big 2 incidents. Goalie it’s very tight, but I can’t see all the ball over all the line when I scroll through it. Footage doesn’t clear it up though.

Penalty incident is really harsh on Smith. He’s on the deck and can’t see the shot being taken. Not deliberate, is his hand in an unatural position given that he’s strictly speaking breaking his fall? There are 2 Airdrie players between smith and the goal.

It could have been waived on. Penalty hard to argue against albeit it’s unlucky. Red card feels too much.

From the goal highlights Smith halls and is rolling over. He's barely even looking in the direction of the ball when it hits him. Never a red card.

And why down to 9? Assume you think the keeper should have been sent off?

Very questionable Red card. He’s rolling on the ground, not clear from the angle whether it already hit his body and then deflected onto his arm and there are players between him and the goal.

Even the penalty you could argue was harsh, if your arm is breaking your fall it’s supposed to not be deemed a hand ball. He’s rolling on the floor.

Rae incident I’ve still to see. I didn’t think that the ball was out of the box. If it was then the ref bottled it - which might be why he then threw the book at Smith

Both teams could have scored a fair few more!! Game wasn’t short on chances.

  10. Can’t bring myself to read the thread, so apologies for anything already covered.

One to live long in the memory of Pars fans present (except the mini bus loyal who left at 3 nil 😂). Think it might be a key result in a title winning season.

bizarrely I’m not too disheartened. Dunfermline should be beating us. Budgets and quality of player should ensure that.

We’ve got McGill, McCabe, Dycey and Smith, each of whom didn’t really make the cut with you.

up until the penalty we were great. Not sure why your first was chopped off. Not sure how Rae stayed on the pitch after being deemed to handle out of the area (I thought he was inside).

After the penalty….. we just don’t seem to be able to play with 10 men. Manager has to look at that but given squad depth and budget I’m still happy with him over all. We can be incredible with 11 player at times!

Not expecting to pick up anything at EEP next week but after today, who would predict anything.

  11. Dunfermline fans seem pretty calm about this game which is disappointing.
I remember a few seasons back one of them posted, Airdrieonians, like burning the roof of your mouth with hot pizza.

Airdrie could blow the League wide open if we win the next 3. Don’t think it will happen but it’s the hope that kills you etc.

There's a match preview in this week's episode of the podcast (starting about 25 minutes in), with a wee shout out to the pre-match pub crawl mentioned above.

@AndyDD returns to take up his part-time residency on the pod to bring some Airdire balance to the show.

Cheers guys. Appreciate that as an away day it’s not one you look forward to but if any Alloa fans want to make a day of it then would be great to see you there 👍🏻

  13. Big game on Saturday in the battle for play off spots. Defeat would be awful for the diamonds so hopefully we can pull out a good performance.

It’s also my Fitba Nomad day. I’ve got the plaque from the Fitba Nomad (an Clackmannanshire resident don’t you know) and so I’m retracing the steps from his favourite day out of last season.

Starting at the West End Bar at 11am, onto Cue Here at 12:15 and The Albert around 1:45. After the game a final drink in the Stadium bar.

Would be great if some fans from both teams fancied joining. Great Pubs and hopefully a great game…. Patter is terrible as podcast listeners know.

Airdrie Fan TV there to capture the event. What goes on your, goes on YouTube!

  14. Hi all

Unlike you guys, my team is out the cup so our next home game is in a fortnight.

Looking at putting on something a bit different before the game. The Fitba Nomad is a ground hopper (from Clackmannanshire) who blogs his journeys. Last year his trip to Airdrie was his favourite day out of the year. Read the summary here:

    https://thefitbanomad.wordpress.com/2022/02/13/doting-on-the-diamonds/

He’s given me a plaque to give to the club and so I’m going to be retracing his steps through 3 of the best pubs in Airdrie and onto the game.

Hoping there will be a decent turnout (my dad says he’ll come!!) and if any Alloa fans wanted to join us that would be great. Appreciate our modern stadium lacks a bit of character and so hopefully this would make for a better day out.

Bit of an early start just to allow for time in each pub and the healthy step count to the ground! Pretty big game so hope it’s a good one.

More details on a Facebook events page.

Let me know if any of you fancy it.

I know it always seems to be the world & his dog is against you when at the bottom of the league but we have not had a break at all this season. From our side the forward pushed our defender which may have led to the ball catching his arm. We got away with that with the keeper saving it. Thought our luck had possibly changed as we got away with a bit of help from the woodwork & could have been well behind. Poor defending from us for your first with nobody on the post. Not sure about the 2nd pen as there was no reason to take him down & off course got posted missing for the 3rd although some reckon it was offside but i could not tell about that. At the end of the day we were well beat but most of us have seen an improvement in the last couple weeks & have to hope things go our way before long.

Wasn’t at the game, but from the highlights on the first penalty the footage isn’t from the right angle to show the incident, but your defender’s reaction probably didn’t help your cause! He looked guilty and didn’t really complain afterwards.

For the second Robert Dalzell’s still image does make your defender look clumsy in making the challenge.

It’s all well and good people coming on here and saying that it’s obvious what we need, or that it’s ludicrous that we’re signing kids instead of experienced pros/strikers instead of defenders, etc., but there is one glaring problem that most folk seem to be ignorant of - if the players aren’t there, available, or willing to come, what are Rhys and Dycey supposed to do? I’d wager that if you scan through the team threads on here for L1 and the Champ, most teams would be looking for a no-nonsense defender/destroyer midfielder/prolific striker (delete as appropriate), it’s not as simple as folk make out.

To suggest that McCabe (someone that has been in the pro game for well over ten years now) can’t see where our deficiencies are is just plain daft to me. I don’t doubt for a second that we are looking to address it but unless a Liam Fontaine turns up at the Excelsior reception asking for a contract, a player like that will be extremely hard to find.

We all want Airdrie to do well, none of us like that we’ve been in this league for 10 years straight now, but in my view, there’s nothing happening at the club that suggests they aren’t trying to resolve this. I get incredibly frustrated as well when I hear things like ‘this is the worst team for 4 seasons’ or ‘our disappointment of a chairman PH’. People seem to forget how grim things were painted to be at times on here under Murray - hell, as others have pointed out, if it wasn’t for an unheard of, frankly, freak run of results last year, we wouldn’t have finished the way we did. Not to discredit what the boys did last year, it was fantastic, but if anyone on here that has watched Airdrie over the past 15 years or so think that should be the norm, they haven’t been paying attention. We are where we are and while I am in no way saying we should accept that, we have to come to terms with the fact that it’s going to be incredibly hard to dig ourselves out and doing so will entail a lot of good fortune. As for PH - does anyone here have any idea of how much of his own money he’s dumped in the club in the last 5-odd years? I’m certainly not going to claim to know, but know enough to know that he’ll have taken huge financial hits to keep us as competitive as we’ve been in that time - he invested enough to keep last season’s squad together (bar Easton) and added what we expected to be known quality (Ballantyne/Rae), so it’s not like he’s not trying.

I get that this is a forum for discussion and debate, I get that Monday’s performance/result was infuriating (and not for the first time this season) but you’d think we were cut adrift at the bottom of the league, or were 12 points adrift of the playoffs the way people are going on. This league is still wide open and unless you’re serious title contenders, there’s no difference as to whether you finish 2nd or 4th (as we found out to our detriment last year).

My hope is that folk don’t start to turn on, by all accounts, two good players/blokes that are working hard for the club and early in their coaching careers in McCabe and Fordyce. Or that people don’t start to tear down lads early in their playing careers just because they make a few mistakes (see Euan Devenney who was public enemy number 1 6-8 weeks ago or most recently, Jay Riley). There’s plenty for us to be hopeful and positive about - we can get where we want to this season, but we need to accept it won’t be as pretty as last year.

Good post. I wish the board woulD communicate about the business plan. I did ask if a Director would come on the podcast, sent questions in advance and said they could hear it before it went out and request deletions. I was effectively told it’s a private company and we’ll run it as we see fit.

I struggle to understand how Edinburgh can sign players who would be excellent for us (Fontaine, McDonald) when they are posting attendances in the 2 and 3 hundreds at points.

It’s comparing apples and oranges. Teams like Kelty and Edinburgh don’t have the big stadium that we have and all the utility bills that go along with it. Although Stad co is separate, ultimately I guess our rent still has to cover a lot of the costs.

We can’t know the finances unless they tell us. I wish they would be a bit more open. It would be easier to accept signing the bum fluff brigade if we knew the financial limitations.
