I'm starting to get excited about it, but my enthusiasm is tempered  by the likelihood that the game is just too soon for us.

'I'm so excited that I've come on here to make excuses in advance'

I'm not excited either tbf  - absolutely shitting myself QLFMjQU.png

Pretty sure I'll be getting absolutely paralytic either way pond.png

I am shocked that the Natters didn't get an elected representative in England.

    Thanks for the insight, stubbso.

The key on the first one is admittedly not the clearest to read but neither image has anything to do with elected representatives. Mind you, it's still extremely obvious that it isn't an election result map.

The true truth is that almost 500 years of partnership with England and 300 years of being the same nation state has meant that we're almost indistinguishable from each other and there is almost nothing distinct about Scotland.

  4. Slightly off topic but somewhat related. Does anyone have recommendations for good driving instructors in Edinburgh (Leith)?

I idiotically never bothered when I was younger and now want to get it sorted.

Most folk I know learned 10+ years ago so I’m hoping P&B might have some recommendations based on more recent experience. Ta.

    Why only this age group?

It was the age range mentioned in YouGov’s tweet on the last page that thicko boomers were objecting to.

Obviously a bad time for everyone but the youngsters who aren’t miserable nihilists obviously aren’t really thinking it through.

  6. I don’t think we have the depth for a third place finish. Aberdeen ran all over our midfield without Gogic and a mostly second string team didn’t look convincing against Brora Rangers. There are about eight first teamers who could f**k our season with a significant injury.

I’ve barely paid any attention to those currently below us in the table. Motherwell should have beaten us at ER, they can push us for fourth in my prediction. After that, dey ken.

  7. Tbf, I get a sense of anger with these restrictions that I haven’t seen from people up to now. ‘Lost the dressing room’ is typically hyperbolic but I’m interested to see if Sturgeon’s approval ratings and the SNP’s Holyrood polling are impacted at all.

An unusual coalition of hardcore Unionists and Yes Da’s have been getting excited about Salmond’s case taking down Sturgeon for ages now. It’s not going to happen.

I don't believe their has been significant change in opinions. The only people I see talking about Brexit being a big factor are unsurprisingly people that want Independence already and always did, I've never met one Unionist that has changed their views because of Brexit. The Indy supporters use polls to try and show support but it's all polling done without having to have the debate, I sincerely think that the polls would be a lot more balanced if independence was actually on the table, basically the Unionist side aren't in campaign or debate mode so the polls in my opinion aren't particularly convincing to me, this is backed up by the SNP losing their majority and the strong return of Conservative MPs under May.

I know my anecdotal evidence is as meaningless as anyone else’s  but I know that many people who talk about switching from No to Yes, it’s hard to believe someone saying they haven’t met anyone in this camp.

You claim to have an issue with “circlejerks” as well. Try talking about current affairs to someone outside the Lodge and then let us know what they have to say.

  9. It’s true that not everyone votes along nationalist/unionist party lines.

It’s kind of irrelevant when discussing mandates though. If the SNP stand on a clear pro-referendum ticket and it’s successful, that’s the position they will (or should at least) advance.

If someone on benefits votes Tory because they hate foxes or whatever, they don’t get to opt out of the austerity bit that comes out of it. Likewise if enough pro-Independence voters back Labour, Lib Dems etc (lol, I know) and that kills off any prospect of Holyrood passing a referendum, tough titties.

Anyone who thinks that a rogue MP, who I've never heard of tbh, and has been dealt with swiftly by the SNP is going to make any dent whatsoever in our glorious path to self determination...is frankly for the birds

Seems like the SNP have handled it well to me. I’m sure if mud is slung near the election, they’ll point out how they’ve handled this compared to Cummings and co.

A bit like the exams thing, or arguably the entire response to Coronavirus, the Scottish Government always have the UK Government to somehow make them look good.

  10. I would actually agree that polls can’t be used to definitely confirm a majority position for something.

I’m not sure how long Unionists think they can convincingly speak in the present tense about being the majority though. Plenty changes in six years, especially on an issue with a huge age divide. You could argue against Yes having majority support and say we don’t know without another vote. Short of that happening, there is nothing to point to that says No is a majority view.

Not to mention polls are perfectly fine to use in an argument when it’s good news for the Union. If anyone can remember that being the case.

  11. I didn’t realise P&B poster ‘Stormzy’ likes Britain. Time for me to have a good, hard re-think about this Independence malarkey.

Firing off a bunch of cringey names about independence supporters everyday and then refusing to discuss the actual merits of the argument seems like a real winning tactic. To be fair, it also seems to the be Unionist parties’ strategy, so why should internet trolls be expected to produce anything better.

No wonder the No side has lost its lead.

  12. I think Biden’s team would be happy with a draw in these. Shading the snap polls is surely a good win for them.

He’s a corporate Democrat, not talking about policies is ideal. The whole campaign seems to boil down to not bring Donald Trump.

I’m sure his people will be telling him to tone down on stuff like calling Trump a clown (we go high and all that) but as long as he can get through another two of these without getting his cock out or dropping an N-bomb, the Dems will be happy.
