Well if you had looked at Oakley’s background you would see he is approaching 29, has played less than 200 games to any standard and has scored around 40 career goals. Hardly prolific and  don’t forget that when you saw him live he was up against Paddy McGinty and his fellow goats. Buyer beware.

So you’d be happy to lose him?

Kerr McInroy will be available in the summer.  And I wouldn’t have the slightest interest in signing him.

I’m not watching the game but is he effectively playing out wide on the right? I’m surprised Doolan thought he could fill in there for Lawless given how slow he is.

I still think if you played him in midfield then you can get the best from him but I’d guess Thistle will make the move permanent.

Aye? I would be very surprised if we are not in for him, he would suit us well I think but if the teams you mentioned are possibly in for him then we can file that enquiry directly in the bin.

I’m fairly certain we’re only signing Oakley because we can’t pay Dowds what he wants to stay. It’s unlikely we’ve pursued Oakley over him given how much Brown rated him.

For that reason alone I’d say he’s away to someone like Raith or down South.

In my overreaching analysis, Oakley has agreed to sign for Ayr and hasn’t told Morton yet and your boy Dodds has found out and broke the news and this is Imrie finding out…

More thank likely this is all just smoke and mirrors and Oakley hasn’t actually signed and the last 5 pages or so have just been hilariously pointless.

You’d have thought that the guy was told by someone at the club as is usually the case with local journalists.

Jordan Houston has signed for Clyde tonight. Sounds like a potentially decent signing for League Two and obviously McCall and Kerr know him. Should he do a job for us plodders down in the basement league?

Aye will be fine in that league. Hope he does well. He struggled defending in 1v1s but it’s unlikely he’ll be up against anyone good enough to seriously trouble him in League 2.

  6. Think folk need to remember that George Oakley wasn’t some international superstar before Morton. He signed for them off the back of a woeful six months at Caley when in doubt he had any other offers at this level. The contract he would’ve been on probably said as much.

Now that he’s out of contract I can imagine Morton will have offered him more money as is needed given the turn he did for them. We don’t need to be offering a huge amount of cash just to be outbidding Greenock fucking Morton.

We finished ahead of you, got to the Scottish Cup quarters, and had a game against the Old Firm in the League. Similar attendances. So it's very likely we've earned more than you last season. And yet you're able to comprehensively outbid us on contract offers for our own players.

I don't think "we aren't being backed hugely in terms of the playing squad" really lives up to scrutiny, if we're being honest.

Which is fine, we did it during the Rae era. But pretty concerning that Ayr, Raith, Livingston, Inverness, and possibly Partick and Dunfermline, are all paying more than they could afford without a financial backer.

We also played an Old Firm side and from what I know, have most of the money sitting from a sale we made last season which was over £250,000.

As it’s been said, we’ve made sensible investments into our infrastructure which should see us more than double our hospitality takings. We’ve spent cash off the field in a smart way which should see our playing budget increase.

Because like most fanbases, we also have our fair share of mouth breathers.

The rest of us know that Morton have arguably the smallest budget in the league whilst Ayr are bankrolled.

Bankrolled he says when we missed out on pretty much all our first, second and third choice targets last season.

Besides the investment into the ground I’ve seen no suggestion we’re bankrolled and we certainly aren’t backed hugely in terms of the playing squad.
