I saw this theory on the Premiership relegation thread, and thought it was a useful non-scientific way of working out what might be the promotion threshold.

Glencairn have been in this league for 8 of the past 9 nine seasons, under a 26-game set-up.

During those 8 seasons, the highest points total for the 3rd place team was 53 points (2015-16). Divide 53 by 26 games, and multiply that by 30 games, and that would give you 62 points for promotion this season.

As I've said, it's non-scientific, and there are other factors built in this season like the bottom three losing a lot of games and consequntially the promotion contenders getting more points. But it does give some sort of indication of what may be required, from the highest points total for third place over the past decade.

The average points total of the 3rd placed teams over those same years is 48.25 points, which would equate to 56 points for promotion over 30 games.

The lowest points total of the 3rd placed teams over those same years is 45 points (seasons 2009-10, 2011-12 and 2012-13). That would equate to 52 points for promotion.

Make of the above whatever you want, it really is only just me playing with statistics, as each season is different, but it perhaps gives some sort of indication of what might be required.

What is significant to note, though, is that Benburb have already passed the highest points total for 3rd place over 26 games, and they have only played 22 games. Also, Glencairn are already above the average points total for 3rd place over 26 games, and we have only played 21 games. It would be particularly irritating to beat all these historical milestones of the past decade but still fail to get promoted. I think I'd just go and watch ice hockey if that happened.....

That would be an interesting thread lol

What do we reckon will be the points requirement for promotion now, given that a few of the teams at the top of the table have still to play each other ?

Tough one but I think you will need a minimum of 65 given the remaining fixtures. Think 67 will get you up.

It might be less but that's my thinking.

I take your point, but if it happens, Rossvale will have lost 1 game in 16. Arthurlie will have lost 6 and Cumbernauld 5. Rossvale Benburb and Glencairn will only have lost 4 games between them.

I never said anything was certain, but it would be a long road back for the rest

I think winning games more likely get you promoted than not losing them, your win ratio is lower than Cumbernauld,Rutherglen and Benburb..

Could be a very decisive week in the promotion race. If Rossvale, Glencairn & Benburb all win, I think it will be very difficult for the other contenders. If it goes the other way, what a finish we are in for.

    I will go

    Away

    Home

    Away

    Draw

    Draw

    Home

    Home

    Home

I don't see it like that, you could win on Saturday and quite easily lose your next two difficult games. Then again if you get beat on Saturday I would say its Rossvale who will find it difficult to gain promotion. All ifs and buts.

Maybe Peter Leonard was just on his holidays in Dalmellington.

Interesting that, I did hear a young boy saying before the game that Peter Leonard was attending the game, if true sure the decision had nothing to do with the Craigmark performance on Saturday I thought they had had a decent youthful team and will give teams plenty of problems certainly at Dalmellington.

I'd settle for a scrappy 1-0 right now, with an own goal for the winner.

Larkhall have to get better at some point, and being at home to the league leaders might inspire them. We're taking nothing for granted.

There certainly was an improvement in their overall performance against us last Saturday compared to our meeting in early August.

  7.  Two away victories and no goals conceded and we top the league.Last night was a comfortable win and could have been much more but credit to Larkhall who kept going to the final whistle. Its obvious they are going through a transitional period, last night they fielded a very young team and it was always going to prove difficult against an experienced 'Nauld'team. We wish them all the best for the season and many thanks for the welcome and hospitality provided. As for us onwards to Saturday and we look forward to welcoming Neilston to Guys Meadow.
