If she is she's kept it quiet, mind you she doesn't generally work on a Monday......
Best if I have a thorough sniff through it myself

She's 48, maybe not quite what you're expecting

Och, you'll be fine, I'm sure. You'd know if it was serious.
As RN alluded to, don't enter the country without a work visa of some sort. They'll just make you leave and re-enter with the proper one. Pain in the arse. Good luck getting one without being married to a citizen however as, unless things have changed, they're like hens' teeth and aren't cheap.
Definitely go if you can. If things don't work out with the girlfriend, you'll be reeking of the fanny by the time you get back. The accent goes down an absolute storm, and I'm not remotely joking.
Thanks for that, I'm not planning on dumping her anytime soon but it's good to have a plan b!! Have been speaking to a couple of chef friends over there already, seems with my qualifications and experience I shouldn't have any problems getting an offer of employment prior to arrival and assistance with visas etc. I know things never go as smoothly as that, but planning on going over for a few weeks in a couple of months to get a feel for the place and sound out some employers.

I'll need to look in to work permit situation. Gf got a green card no problem last time, but I don't envisage it being a permanent move - rather a year or two for the experience.

Best stay here then ;-)

My gf has been offered a post in the usa, she worked there for 3 years or so but has been back in scotland for the past 5 years. She's keen to go, in makes great sense financially for her but I'm unsure about going with her. I'm a chef so work opportunities for me are excellent over there, just unsure about making such a big move. Anyone gone abroad to work and wants to share there experiences?

But surely that would only work once....Buy a top Institutional footy team for a quid.
Tell them about your ambitious plans and off the radar wealth.
Use someone else's money to clear any debt.
Strip the place clean selling everything that isn't nailed down.
f**k off to France
Oh wait....

Folk using their phones in toilets. And I'm not talking about those playing Flappy Birds, or reading P&B in the stalls. It's the twats who are actually conducting a conversation whilst having a shit or standing at the urinal. More often than not they'll just walk out without washing their hands as well. Manks.
I saw I guy pishing in the urinals at Heathrow T5 with his laptop open in his spare hand a few weeks ago. Ffs!

Tonight's dinner...
Pea and pear soup served with creme fraich and a ransher of crispy pancetta
Miso salmon and scallops on braised baby gem lettuce, asparagus and sugar snap peas
Home made vanilla ice cream on chocolate brownies, raspberry coulis and chocolate shavings
On my second bottle of verdiccio, so it could all go tits up at any moment

It is a acceptable measure. That's why you get the measuring cup sets, 1/4 cup 1/2 cup and 1 cup you get the picture.
Bit more complicated than that, depends on the type of ingredient being measured....
Liquids
1 tsp = 6ml
1 tbsp = 15ml
1/8 cup = 30ml
1/4 cup = 60ml
1/2 cup = 120ml
1 cup = 240ml
Dried ingredients
1 tsp = 5g
1 tbsp = 15g
1oz = 28g
1 cup flour = 150g
1 cup caster sugar = 225g
1 cup icing sugar = 115g
1 cup brown sugar = 175g
1 cup sultanas = 200g
Butter
1/8 cup = 30g
1/4 cup = 55g
1/3 cup = 75g
1/2 cup = 115g
2/3 cup = 150g
3/4 cup = 170g
1 cup = 225g
