  1. That looks spot on to me. My only concern is that Duffy is out of contract and if he doesn't sign a new contract by mid May (at the latest), then we could lose a few of those players while he makes his mind up. I'd like the board to be pushing him to make a decision in this month and then look at getting the players signed up. It would be nice to have a core of players that know each others game already in place instead of having to sign an almost entire new squad for the umpteenth season running. Although with Forbes already signed up, I wonder if Duffy tipped him the wink that he'll still be here next season.
Wondered about the Duffy situation myself, all managers have to deal with inheriting a squad so regardless of Duffy staying/going it makes sense to get the better performers tied down.

Arbroath benefited from a settled squad signed up for two years and although we don't have that financial luxury, we pretty much know our fate and can start planning now for next year to get us on the front foot.
  2. Now that we're all but mathematically safe, it's time for our annual "Keep or Punt" discussion.  For me:
    KEEP
    Brennan (as number 2)
Wardrop (if DU are releasing him)
    McGeever
    Neill
    Rico Quitongo
    Hutton
    Carswell
    McKee
    Forbes (already signed up)
    PJ Crossan
    Layne
    Jai Quitongo
    PUNT
    Pettigrew
    Crawford
    Zata
    Wilson
    Jones
    McCluskey
    Tierney
    UNDECIDED
    Langan

Would applaud the board for some future planning, get some of key players signed up right now.

P.s. would pick one of Carswell/Hutton, not both.
  3. I think the issue is our season is effectively done, realistically we are not going to get into the top 4 unless we have a smashing run of form and we are unlikely to end up relegated or in the playoff due to the teams below looking even worse. Classic mid table mediocrity.
This season is a bit of paradox for me. I'd have bitten your hand off for mid table at the start of the season but strangely feel disappointed about how it's likely to end.
  4. I think the refs have a far harder job than we give them credit for, but football is a bit pantomine and we like easy targets (says the man that regularly gets caught up in the moment and gives the refs pelters) [emoji2960]

If it is on a par with Arbroath then it will be a challenge. Just watched a programme on Refereeing in Scotland with Thomson ad Crighton: it showed how fit the top refs etc are and how difficult offside is to judge, but I still reserve the right to discuss their standards when we win! ( The officials I mean) Signing off now!

  5. Kudos is due, but I don't know how many of signings were by design or opportunity. The proof will be on the field, if we can get the new(ish) signings to click the optimist in me says we can we should be targeting the playoffs which would be remarkable given the early predictions.

Given that Wardrop should be as good as if not better than Tumilty, Jones will be better than Shiels, Quitongo is an improvement on Scullion and Forbes will be better than Frizzell I take it that all those who were criticising Duffy for not getting his finger out are now eating humble pie?

  6. For what it's worth at 3pm the park was more than playable and in better condition than it was for the Stranraer game. And our manager was standing there with me. I do feel for the ref as he was put in a no win position at the time. Still goes against me as a postponement which is annoying..
From your comments the postponement decision was a political one, wouldn't take it to heart.

You have to wonder about Dumbarton. Fan involvement. What has the trust achieved in its 20 years or so.

You have to wonder about a club with old filing cabinets in main concourse and a car park that resembls the wastelands of Aleppo.

I know the trust aka PTA mean well. And they have their little table, shiny landyards and importantf titles. But what the f**k has it actually done, other than fund the ballboys jackets and make a few feel more important than they did before.

As for the direction of a club. One week it big hurrah and partnership moving forward with youth committments and local football partnerships. Then its one outfield sub available due to lack of playing squad.

All a bit wee diddy club like one thinks.

  8. Strikers obviously do more than just score goals but I decided to see who had the highest goals to game ratio of the decade. Here's the top five.

    1. Craig Dargo 0.58

    2. Dom Thomas 0.53

    3. Chris Kane 0.50

    4. Isaac Layne 0.47

    5. Jon McShane 0.41.

Only Kane and McShane played 30 or more games from those. A select few others are Jim Lister 0.38, Bryan Prunty 0.30, Colin Nish 0.14, Archie Campbell 0.07, Christian Nade 0.21, Dennis Wyness 0.29, Lewis Vaughan 0.26 and Kevin Nisbet 0.00.

You wouldn't happen to have wave at fans vs minutes played ratio, would you?

  9. Would have thought, financially, Aberdeen away would be up there, happy to go and get cuffed by 4 or 5 and have some extra in the coffers versus watching a draw against Queens Park (Just a reference, no offence to the spiders).
