  1. Lanyard wankers. Folk that have their work pass swinging from their neck on the way home from work, on the train or worst of all (help me Jesus), in the pub. They should be garrotted with their own lanyards. The World Cup has heightened this because managers and even substitutes are wearing them.
  2. In case anyone's interested in watching a bit more rugby in the flesh, worth knowing that Edinburgh's season ticket prices are great, especially if you have kids. It's £185 for the ten Pro14 matches and the three Champions Cup games, and you can get an under-16s season ticket free. £14.25 a game for an adult and child is brilliant. I can't make enough matches for it to be worth it but I thought I'd let youse fine people know. And no, I'm not on commission...
  3. You really are Jack's granda. I think the problem is that most teachers were brought up in the post-grammar era too, so only the English teachers in secondary schools can teach it. It's much too late by then. Our lack of focus on grammar is one of the major reasons why we're so bad at learning foreign languages too. How are you supposed to learn the perfect tense in French if you don't know what it means in English?
  4. It's faster. Unless you can type really quickly it's still faster than typing or any other form of writing. I take minutes of a lot of meetings and there's nothing quicker than writing - plus, it's disruptive to sit there clattering away on a keyboard. Throughout school kids are going to have to write a lot. There's no way in the near future they're all going to be sitting there with laptops in front of them in class, taking their notes. It's also nicer to look at. I don't think I'd like to get a Valentine's card written in small caps. But schools are still miles behind, typing is an important skill now and they ought to be teaching it. And I'd happily see them spend less time on handwriting and more time on grammar and punctuation.
  5. True. It was most amusing last season when Rangers ended up scrabbling around trying to set up friendlies after failing to make Progres.
  6. So f**k those that it does matter to? Away and eat shite.
  7. I don't think I've ever seen a wheelchair in the ground. I've seen a mobility scooter but I'm not sure one would fit in that shelter, would it? Hopefully word will spread and it'll encourage new folk to come along. It's certainly the best facility of its type I've seen in non-league.
  8. Jesus Christ. You can't calmly raise a mild quibble on the internet without a ton of folk dropping a brick.
  9. I bow to your superior personal knowledge of the preferences of professional footballers.
  10. If you offered them the chance of three weeks' more holiday and no trips to teams you need to Google in the Baltic or the Balkans? I'm not so sure.
  11. Good. I've stopped going to Scotstoun entirely because of the prices. I've gone down from half a dozen league games a season and one or two European when we were at Firhill, to about 4 home games a season overall, to none this year. The play-off prices were ridiculous, especially to sit uncovered behind the goals.
  12. Why are you talking about segregation? FWIW, most fans don't go on the bus or hang about in the social club - I've never done either - so don't assume you know what they want more than I do. Yes, people want different things. One end of the ground is grass, so leave that for those who want that. I kind of get the feeling you're looking for an argument and will just keep shifting around to find something you can bet me with, so I'll stop now. This is how message boards always end up rubbish.
  13. I wouldn't have gone back to it if Fuzzy hadn't misquoted me. And my point was that if we got a Championship or Premier league team in the cup, we'd have even more interest. But I was done. You could speak to the people who use that area of the ground and find out what matters to them. Don't assume everybody is at the games with the same outlook as you. It's a football stadium for a non-league team in a small town, it's not Hampden Park. Bear in mind that if the kids are happy, the dads are much more likely to come; if the kids don't want to come, some of those dads won't either. I was taking my daughter to Prestonfield long before I was taking her to Hampden or Murrayfield. Btw, Musselburgh literally have a small playpark in their ground, just at the corner where you come in the gate, and most grounds at this level have a decent-sized area for kids to play.
  14. Rocket !! Whit? I said fans could have very unfairly missed out if it were a bigger match because tickets went on sale earlier than they said on Twitter, HTG said there's no bigger game, I gave an example of a bigger game. Not rocket science, just read the thread.
  15. Read the thing again. I was talking about the handling of ticket sales.
  16. You have already said we would need more than our capacity if we drew a big club but now say the ground is plenty big enough. I didn't say anything of the kind. Balls hardly ever land on the park during play, and it should definitely be overlooked. This is the most family friendly thing about Prestonfield, and about non-league football in general. There have been kids playing with a ball at the vast majority of non-league matches I've ever been to. And as those kids get older and their attention span improves they gradually play less and watch more, becoming fans who'll keep coming back. I'd say the next logical improvement would be cover at the social club end. If it were possible just to bolt it to the wall it could be done pretty cheaply. As most of the space under the current cover is flat, there's actually not that much covered standing in the ground.
  17. Why shouldn't it be in the club's thoughts. Because loads of kids kick balls around there, and their parents really appreciate that they can. The ground is plenty big enough and there's stacks of terracing round three sides of the pitch. Having space for kids to run around and enjoy themselves is one of the best things about non-league football. If you're in any doubt, go and ask the kids and their parents if they want concrete steps at that end.
  18. I was trying not to over-complicate it any further, but you're right, EL qualifiers can't get as many places as I said because of that Champions Path. Hibs, Aberdeen and Rangers would probably be much better off giving their players a longer break and having a decent pre-season. The trips are great for fans, but from a football perspective and in the interests of the whole season I'd rather be in the league cup group stage than the EL qualifiers.
  19. Thanks. Been trying to sign up but there's something wrong with the Capcha code thing - I'm ticking the box but it's not recognising it. Grr.
  20. Attendance for the Forfar game was 2,153. We'd have a bigger demand for a Scottish Cup tie against a Championship or Premier league team. WHEN that gets done??? Please tell me this isn't in anyone's thinking.
  21. But the club did pre-advertise, on Twitter. They said Saturday morning. I appreciate everyone is a volunteer but once they'd says Saturday they ought to have stuck to it. No harm done but for a bigger game this could have caused people to miss out unfairly. Anyway, looking forward to the game and I hope the guys are in decent condition so early in the summer. It's a testament to the efforts of everyone involved in the club that Hibs should think to approach them.
