Was browsing some old YouTube videos the other night and came across ones for Frontier: Elite 2. I used to love this back in the day. Are there any games like the modern equivalent?

I've heard brilliant things about No Man's Sky these days but haven't really touched it since the debacle of the launch.

You should jump back into NMS for a go as it has improved massively and they keep adding more free content.  It’s great in VR too if you have a headset.

Elite Dangerous is good too but way more challenging and technical so it depends what you’re after.

  2. Why is the basic one not worth it? It allows me to gain XP to get the tokens so I can progress through the levels and get the rewards. What else is there?

Genuine question by the way, I’m wondering what I’m missing? £99 for a battle pass, deluxe or not, is utterly mental.

  3. I’m confused at people saying the battle pass is £99. Where are you seeing that? I think I paid about £8.79 to get enough COD points to buy the basic battle pass.

I did but MW2 mind you, is that why? Surely to f**k it’s not almost £100 for a battle pass? That can’t be right. You can buy the special edition for £99 which comes with the battle pass I would assume but that’s the game you’re buying as well.

  4. Spends the past week and a half packing and preparing for her holiday today. Yet, somehow, is still charging around in a panic this morning, rummaging under the bed and making a racket looking for something while I’m trying to have a lie in.

HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE? After a week and a fucking half of watching her flap around “preparing” she STILL isn’t ready to go on the day?

  5. Ok, asking for advice.

Have got a serious grievance against promotion and interview process that's been going back five years now.
I know that I need to leave but its something that needs talked about.
Upcoming appraisal and I've mentioned what happened in it.

    Not mentioned in review document
Colleague was borderline alky on a warning for timekeeping. Wouldn't do his job and was a square peg in a round hole. Tried to apply for job and got blocked by manager who wanted to keep him in our department.
Next thing he gets given lots of extra roles and responsibilities and some taken from me and others depsite doing nothing wrong.
All of a sudden a job is announced (that hes been groomed for). Interview process goes wrong because they need to justify it to HR. Two week delay in selecting him.
Very dodgy reasoning given to me why I didn't get it. Completely contradicted what supervisor had told me a week before.
He was also told to apply for the role by the interviewers.
Told that if the role came up again I would be fast tracked and no need for interview just informal chat.

For context this supervisor is notorious for picking yes men and favourites who back his schemes of failure and lots of overtime.

    Mentioned in review document
Next role supervisor is off sick for a few months. He pre selects his two juniors by telling them they should apply in advance.
One is his pal he sits with at break. Other one seems odd but has been sychophantic and two faced behind the scenes. (Not mentioned obviously)
I apply for it, its completely informal. No job description and knocked back.
Smoke blown up arse and told my skills are actually much higher technically than the two new supervisors. It is true actually in terms of what we do. I'm also more qualified than both put together. Neither has excelled at leadership but one has little experience before. The other was actually moved for causing issues with staff and tried to bully a female colleague.
Again told that thanks for stepping up and this time the top of the business has been made aware so if any job comes up you will be in line.

Next step, few months later (two/three) the first job comes up again because the original guy is leaving. I ask the supervisor what's happening. He tells me he doesnt know. At the same time another colleague tells me that hes told someone else if they still want this job. (He also applied for first role, we were both close)
Next thing email comes out last thing on a friday saying that the colleague the supervisor asked if he wanted it has got the job. No interview, no discussion, nothing said to me.
I know that I'm more qualified and can output twice what this guy does every day. Hes been called lazy by quite a few colleagues.

Spoke to supervisor asked why I wasnt even spoken to. He tells me it was another department that made the decision.
This seems to be a lie considering the history plus hes a notorious liar and bully.
He threatened me once and I mentioned this to his boss. So.....

And that's pretty much present day, this is where all my moaning comes from. Sorry it's a long read and if anyone can bear reading it all can you advise?

Appraisal coming up soon from one of the junior yes men so I'm assuming they will be told to sweep it under the carpet.
Should I push it with hr?

Happens almost everywhere I imagine. In my experience there is absolutely hee haw you can do about it. In fact kicking up a stink about it will almost guarantee you don’t get any subsequent promotions that come up.

The workplace/world is not a meritocracy.
  6. Once again I'll wait a couple of months and pick the game up for buttons after it's been properly patched.

The days of me buying PES on release day are long gone.  It's always a complete mess on day one and there are no decent option files available for a wee while either.

  7. Young lady at work today:

Her:  "I seen two swans down the park the other day, well they were ducks but ducks turn into swans don't they?"

Me:  "That's The Ugly Duckling you're thinking of."

Her:  "So what are baby swans called then?"

    Me:  "Cygnets."

Her:  *gives me a look where she thinks I must be taking the piss then turns away*

I'm fairly certain she still believes that ducks turn into swans.

No it’s no. It’s pish. You’re only saying that because you’re a Ger.  Slippy could spunk in your eye and I would bet you’d still love it.

You got me.  I didn't even watch it really, I just love Gerrard and Rangers so much that I trawl football forums promoting his documentary.  Even though the documentary doesn't actually feature any of his involvement with Rangers.

Not sure why having semen in your eyes is your go-to insult, maybe you should have a wee think about your life choices.  You might be a happier and more rounded individual if you just be who you really want to be.

    It's not.

I would argue that some journalists deliberately omit certain details all the time in order to spin a story the way they want it to go.  This is what I meant when I suggested it could be considered "good" journalism, even though it's not the textbook definition of it.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story and all that.

I think his lack of remorse at the "tackle" is pretty grim (of course that might have been edited out) but the whole piece taken together shows how he turned a potentially ruined life into something more positive.
    Not bad journalism at all.

His lack of remorse and his apparent complete lack of context or understanding of why the fans are giving him such grief is what painted him as a bit daft to me.  You're right, a lot of what he said could have been cut out for all we know.  Which, from a journalists point of view, is probably considered good journalism but from a readers point of view it's bad journalism as it's not giving us the full picture.

His story of getting his life together after getting into bother and the fact he's warning others against going down that path was a good read though.

  11. I also thought it was a bit stupid of him to whine about fans shouting about his career ending because that's how he supports his family right after he's put a, potentially, career ending tackle into a fellow professional.  Not for the first time either.

Players like him who revel in their "hardman" status on the pitch then moan in the media about how the big bad fans shout abuse at them are pathetic.

Other than that it was a decent piece.

There was a game for the PS4 acouple of years ago called "Road Redemption" that was basically a Road Rash remake.  I've no idea if it was any good or not.

It was absolutely horrific.  A disgrace to the Road Rash name.

I thought it would be almost impossible to make a mess of a Road Rash remake but those idiots managed it and then some.

So what's the updated thoughts on this?

    Is it getting any better?

I've been keeping tabs on it (big fan of previous Fallout games) and from what I've read it's getting worse rather than better.  Read an article today in which the author said he doesn't believe the game can be fixed.  Patches to combat various exploits people were taking advantage of have not only punished the cheats but also the players who levelled up fair and square.

I was going to wait and get this game on the cheap just because it's Fallout but now I'm thinking I'm never going to buy it.  Just seems like a hot mess from start to finish.

The whole thing sounds like a failed concept IMO.

In a previous workplace a colleague started calling me 'Harry Potter' because I wore glasses. Such patter. She genuinely thought it was hilarious and some others found it really funny as well.  Just awful chat.

Tell her your new nickname should be Johnny Two Times then tell her to f**k off.  Twice.

Im not trying to be oftw, just thought as im in town this afternoon and if i was spotted after saying im not coming it might not look good! Appreciate the reassurance folks.

Just my opinion of course, every workplace is different and has different dynamics.

I would say, in general, that a new boss turning up to a night out for someone they barely know while they're off on annual leave could be considered a bit of a "try-hard" or possibly even only there to check up on how folk behave on work's nights out when they have a few bevvies in them.  Especially if you're not drinking.

Offices are weird places full of weird people.  You can't judge them using normal standards.  Just wait for the next night out and go and get steaming with them.  Sorted.

Bonding via alcohol is almost always the way forward.

  16. Turning up to a work's night out when you're on annual leave is OFTW behaviour if you ask me.

If you weren't on annual leave I would say go, buy a round and then bugger off sharpish with an excuse about having to pick someone up or whatever.

As you are currently on annual leave, I would say don't bother going.
