The deadline for applications is the end of this month so it won't be long now before there are some clues as to whether or not there are any potential new clubs.

It would be entirely understandable if the decision to keep the last in-take of clubs (i.e. ex Juniors plus Edinburgh College) tailed off in a bottom division with only one guaranteed promotion spot puts off clubs from outside West Lothian from applying to join a West Lothian division dominated this time around.

If Cup results are any guide it has also meant that some stronger West Lothian have been held back and the lower divisions of the league will remain, unnecessarily, out of balance as it will take time for clubs to find their appropriate position in the league.

We already know about one new club in the EoSL next season - Vale of Leithen relegated from the Lowland League.

Regarding the HFL/LFL champions play-off, Fraserburgh, Buckie & Brechin is "too close to call", whilst Bonnyrigg can watch with interest to see which club they will face. .Interesting.

Anyone know if City are planning to continue with the Friday night gig after this season?

As a Stranraer fan based in Edinburgh it doesn’t impact me, but for anyone coming to an away game from the likes of Stranraer, Elgin or Forfar it’s just a bloody nuisance.

From a City fans’ POV has it had a positive impact, e.g. on attendances?

And will the refurbished Meadowbank Stadium be ready for the start of the 2022/23 season ?

Duns are the obvious ones from the Border Ams, former EoS members, have got their ground upto licence standard I believe, and with the leagues reverting to P-1-2-3 from next season it may be the right time for them to re-join if they can get a competitive team together.

Yes Duns are the obvious choice for an additional border club in the EoSL.,

Outsiders could be Selkirk Vics who have strengthened in recent years, and could be looking to fill the void left when Selkirk FC folded.

Interestingly Eyemouth United are not competing in the Border League this season, but there is an amateur club : Eyemouth United Amateurs FC ,who are keeping football alive in the town (as a possible successor/phoenix club ?).

Culter or Bridge of Don appear to be progressive clubs. Assuming Banks O'Dee win promotion this season, there needs to be some licensed clubs for 2023/24 ?

Thanks for posting this. Not as large as the mooted 1,500 seater but I like the mix of seats and standing (but closer inspection of the plans reads 5 rows of seating or 10 of standing). Note also the Proposed Fan Zone to the right of the main stand.

Look forward to the new stand being ready for the start of the 25/26 season.

Progress at last - good news.

2025/26 is a long way off though. which is disappointing

The NCFA is a well run (thanks, @NiallFH et al!) and generally competitive organisation and has a rightful role within the pyramid. It's impossible to subdivide Scotland into equitable regions in terms of geography and population and the depth in the Far North is always going to be shallower than the North East, as the depth in the Highland footprint is shallower than the Lowland.

    I agree.

What some posters seem to ignore, is that the pyramid is supposed to incorporate all regions of Scotland. Ask the  the leading North clubs in the North Region if they want to play clubs in the north highlands and islands on a league basis, The answer is no !

The NCL is a competitive league as is demonstrated by the current league table. It presents no 'threat' to the promotion of clubs like Banks O'Dee,  Culter, etc ,  unless of course an NCL club (when licensed) defeats them in the HFL play-off.  It does however provide pyramid football for Highlands, Islands & Moray clubs if/when they are relegated from the HFL.

Similarly, I can't see many/any South of Scotland League clubs defeating WoSL or EoSL clubs in the immediate pyramid play-offs, but (like the NCL) it still operates as a genuine senior league.

Latest photo of St Andrews United's floodlights and recent Social Media post below . . .

    Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen,
This time tomorrow we will be making history by playing the first ever Senior football match under floodlights in St Andrews!!! The lights now meet SFA standards and look fantastic, as can be seen from our photograph!
The game against Kennoway Star Hearts kicks off at 7.45pm and the top gate will open at 7pm. Entry is the usual £6 for adults plus £3 for concessions. There are a limited number of programmes left from the Edinburgh United match since we produced a double issue and The Social Club bar will be open at 6pm.
See you tomorrow and enjoy the game!

Robert, you're prone to presenting your personal opinions and wishes as truth, and then being very defensive when you're called out on some of the inconsistencies. It's not a competition, everyone up here is well aware of comings and goings in the NCL, just we don't feel the need to post unsubstantiated rumours and Football Manager-esque fantasies about Skye United or Ness and Point joining the NCL...

If you read my original post about "Skye United", i suggested that whilst the Isle would be capable (IMO) of entering a team in the NCL, although it was unlikely in the foreseeable future. I did encourage Skye footballers to enter a club in one of the NCL cup competitions. None of my posts have ever referred to Ness or Pont !!!.

By all means, disagree with my opinions, but  don't attribute  my opinions to being facts. And by the way, it was me who first posted on this forum, that  Loch Ness, Nairn U23's, Alness, & Scourie, were joining the NCL.  If you check back, you will see it was an information post.

And don't put me in the same category as "The Lurker", who has regularly presented his views as facts, on this and other P&B  forums, and then changed his mind when they are proved to be incorrect.

Why so against a little speculation? It's a Forum after all and without a range of views none of us would be here!

Robert was, after all, the first person on P&B to come up with the West of Scotland League title. He took stick for that one too.

One thing though we should all anticipate is that there are more changes coming to the HL pyramid area. Hopefully that will strengthen the N Cal league.

    Thanks Asim.

Yes I agree, and will watch future developments with interest.

    Stop making stuff up

If you check back, you will see that I was the first person to advise P&B about 4 clubs joining in 20/21, and about 2 other clubs making an enquiry about joining for 2020/21.

If Skye footballers could unite, they should enter a winter team in a North Caley cup competition.  It would provide an outlet for younger/developing players to further their experience, without any on-going commitment. Sadly, this is probably unlikely at present.

I also highlighted the likelihood that Lewis & Harris would (re)enter an NCL cup this season. They did.

The SFA updated the list of licensed clubs, as at August 2021. However, Banks O'Dee and Golpie Sutherland were still listed under the "Other Clubs", whereas they are now  in the North Regional 'Junior' and the North Caley Leagues, both pyramid clubs at Tier 6.

As we are now in December, can any one give an update on their own club's progress in applying for a licence in 2022 ? For example :

    * Armadale Thistle                                                                                                                                                               * St Andrews United                                                                                                                                                         * Hill of Beath Hawthorn                                                                                                                                                   * Irvine Meadow                                                                                                                                                                 * Lochee United                                                                                                                                                                 * Tweedmouth Rangers

What is the deadline for submitting an application for 2022 ?

Skye and Lochalsh could put a decent side into the NCL. Was always impressed by Sleat and Strath/Strath and Sleat (always get it the wrong way round!) and there’s a few other players dotted around that would do a job in that league. The travelling and the crossover between the summer and winter season are the biggest barrier though, especially through the winter months.

A Stornaway team would probably be travelling the same way PLUS the length of Skye from Uig (which is a trek in itself!) AND a ferry. With most team being based in Easter Ross, it’s just too much to expect week in week out.

Ullapool would be the obvious choice for a new team in the NCL. It was folly to base a team in KLB/Scourie and I said at the time the best players up there could be persuaded down to play for for an Ullapool based team

Yes, Skye could enter a club into the North Caley League, but it would be more likely that they would enter 1 or 2 of the NCL cup competitions first, as a way of testing the water. Lewis & Harris have done so in recent seasons, but won't consider joining the league whilst covid flourishes.

More likely new NCL applicants would be Nairn St Ninian (struggling in the North Region league), Clachnacuddin Reserves/Under 23's, a (unified) a Black Isle FC, Buniliddh Thistle (rejoining),, Muir of Ord, and/or Ullapool (possibly within the next 2-3 seasons)?

    Watch this space.

A while back there was talk or speculation that the North Region Juniors located west of the River Spey might get allocated to the N Cal area and that current Highland League clubs located west of the Spey might be allocated to the N Cal feeder league (to the Highland League) if they were ever relegated.

Anyone have the latest news on this?

This could possibly affect quite a few clubs. Some below will be Spey valley but east of the river:

Nairn St Ninian, Dufftown(?), Forres Thistle, Burghead Thistle, New Elgin and Cromdale (?).

    Potentially from the Highland League:

Clachnacuddin, Rothes (?), Brora Rangers, Forres Mechanics, Lossiemouth United, Wick Academy, Strathspey Thistle, Nairn County and Fort William.

As individual club's fortunes change over time the N Cal area could look quite strong in ten years time if present Aberdeen/shire and Midlands League clubs win promotion to the Highland League!

Early in 2021, two clubs made enquiries about joining the NCL for 2021/22, but didn't submit applications (probably decided not to apply because of the ongoing Covid situation).  They may apply for entry next season, if the situation becomes more stable becomes ?

In addition, Fort William face potential relegation to the NCL, and Bunillidh may decide to re-activate their league membership. However, I consider that it would be unlikely for the NCL to accept more than 14 clubs in a single division, because of weather and fixture problems, and I think it's unlikely that  the league would split into two small divisions again.

As an aside, I notice that Lewis & Harris have entered the NCL's 2021/22 Football Times Cup after a few year's absence, although they are very unlikely to join the league in the future.....unless there is a serious benefactor/sponsor, out there somewhere ?

However today's opening results suggest that the league will be very competitive this season, if today's results are anything to go by :

    Golspie            4        Inverness Ath   4
