  1. Meekings would be good. He has pace and a better reputation among ICT fans than Devine and he's been brilliant since December. Also, it would likely inspire absolute seethe amongst the Celtic fans when we play them which would be hilarious in its pettiness. However, as the article states, if Hibs go in for him, we can't match them financially. Ryan Edwards 2.0 could be a good option, just looked him up and appears to have done a clean sweep of Morecambe's POTY awards. My main problem with these two is that they're both right-footed. Having Liam on the left of a three as a left-footer has really helped our ability to pass out from the back but it's not the be all and end all. Both of them are decent ages and could definitely improve in a similar way to our centre-halves of the last few years under Archie.
The winger, Mitja Lotric, is the kind of signing we haven't really made yet since promotion. Someone from mainland Europe who no one has heard of. A look at his transfermarkt page tells us that he can play right wing, attacking midfield and centre forward but I'm not sure how accurate that his and how adept he is in those positions.
I can't really think of two many other potential signings for us but we do need at least one centre-half and an attacking midfielder/winger and if the right option is there, a striker.

  2. FWIW, before Thistle fans get too hyped about 5th (I've even seen talk of 4th), they should be looking at their record against the top half this season so far (2 wins in 14 matches)

Although I think fourth is impossible I believe fifth is. I think the thoughts come from the fact that we are a much better side now than we were when we faced those top half sides earlier in the season and Hearts are a much worse team. We took points from Celtic which was a bonus and I can't say I think we'll do it again but I don't see why we can't get something against Rangers in both fixtures if we turn up. We'll likely be against St. Johnstone at McDiarmid and our record at their place is fairly good. We'll have to see how Aberdeen respond to today's result but it's still hard to see us getting something against them although not impossible. The crunch game is the Hearts one. If we can beat them, that would close that gap of three points but a win would be difficult. The real reason for the hopes of fifth is the question of where will Hearts be picking up points? A difficult game against Killie at Rugby Park followed by the split games. It wouldn't really mean all that much and would say more about Hearts' capitulation than it would about our quality but would still be another note to add to this season's success.
  3. Fair dos. I'm not saying he won't. Just let's enjoy it and stop with the glass half empty shite until it happens. No point worrying about it. We just achieved something to enjoy but change is always inevitable.

Although I agree, we should enjoy the achievement. The sooner we start to think about and sort out this sort of stuff the better and I venture to think that there have already been talks of this nature behind the scenes which would be ideal. Thankfully, being in the top six does allow us to plan further ahead, safe in the knowledge that we'll definitely be a Premiership team come next season.
  4. Unfortunately I'll be amazed if archie starts next season in charge.  There must be quite a few teams taking a serious look at him. I'd be gutted for us but he really does deserve a big job,the man's a legend.

Maybe Shaggy could make the step up to manager rather than going with Archie as assistant? If Archie were to go.
  5. Don't throw things at me, but I'd be tempted to keep Amoo. Was watching some goals from the last couple of years on YouTube last night and the number that he has been involved in is quite impressive.

He's at his best when he's driving to the byline and getting dangerous crosses and cut backs in but he seems to rarely take his man on. Potentially more of a mental/confidence thing?
  6. And there's always the potential for us to shite ourselves against Motherwell.

That's the fear. We can only focus on what we have but the Motherwell game (depending on tonight's Killie result) will have the same feel as County away just before the split last season and we can't afford to sh*t the bed like we did in that game. If Osman is out until at least the split then I feel like Danny Devine is going to be a key figure against 'Well, I don't care who it is but someone has to step up and fill the Osman gap because we'll need a leader.
  7. Seriously not concerned.     It's done and dusted, we're in the top six. That Kilmarnock team we played a couple of weeks ago are simply not capable of taking the minimum of five points they require from their three remaining fixtures.

Bookies make us 1/100 for a reason and if they think it's a certainty and every other supporter think it's pretty much a certainty I don't see where the doubt and nervousness come from

I agree to an extent. On paper it's a done deal. On paper we will beat Motherwell while Killie should lose all three of their games but in reality Motherwell will give us a tough game since they're fighting right amongst the bottom group and Hearts aren't in the position their in based on recent form and have a history of dropping points to teams below (eg. Us, County, Dundee, etc.). Plus, Rangers are in a weird period that is allowing Pedro C. to acclimatise to Scottish football and no one really knows what to expect as Pedro C. seems to do things his own way (eg. subbing three defs. at half time or announcing his team over 24 hours prior to a game) so we can't rely on them to put Killie away. Hopefully, Killie will lose tonight so that, even considering the probable loss tonight, we could potentially tie things up on Saturday at Firhill. Despite all that's being said about Killie potentially winning two of their last three, you could just as easily see them losing tonight and Saturday, at Celtic, confirming us as the winners of the top six race by Match of the Day at the weekend regardless of our result against the 'Well. So, as much as it hurts to do so, I'm hoping for a Rangers win tonight and a Celtic win on Saturday.

Forgetting all that nonsense, if we beat Motherwell, Killie would have to win all three games (considering out vastly superior GD), one of which is a trip to Parkhead so it's in our hands, overall.

  8. Although it seems like the wrong attitude to go in with, we have to almost treat the Celtic game like a loss. If we do get anything then that would be a massive bonus but we have to make sure that everyone is fit for the 'Well game as a win in that could confirm top six.

We know that a few of the players were carrying knocks but they may have cleared up over the international break, however, if there are any key team members with such injuries then they should be rested if possible. Considering that Doolan supposedly has a knock, Azeez should be a nailed on starter as I thought he did quite well last time at Parkhead. If we can grind out a draw or even steal a win in some unfathomable circumstance then great but focus has to be in Motherwell as that game will likely be the decider in the top six race.

  9. Good result for us with County beating Dundee. Just need Killie to not beat Sevco and Hearts and we're in, no matter what happens against Motherwell.

If only Rangers and Hearts weren't such bottlejobs...

None of that sh*te will matter as long as we beat Motherwell on Saturday (Presuming Celtic beat Killie, which they should, especially at Parkhead). That match is going to have the same feel as the County game at Dingwall last season.

  10. So, we saw the club pay a transfer fee for Adam Barton last summer. It was likely pish-all, nevertheless, if we sell Lindsay in the summer as expected do you think the plan is to try to bring Keown in permanently? I believe I read that his contract is up at the end of next season so he would have a year left at the end of this season. I guess it all depends on how highly Reading rate him and with the way he is playing at the moment, they'll probably want to keep him but I would love to see him join permanently and the club seem to be moving in the direction of not having to rely on free agent scraps from League 2.

  11. A quick question on Liam Lindsay. Since Scotland have a friendly coming up and the Thistle defence has conceded just 6 goals in the last 12 games, do you think Lindsay should get a senior call-up? The alternatives are hardly impressive and he's been a regular for one of the league's better defences for almost two years now and seems to have eradicated his tendency to make mistakes. I personally think he should.
