    Some Stats

    Team From To Record
    G W D L Win %

    Jim Weir

    Brechin City May 2010 September 2012 96 33 28 35 34.38

    Ray McKinnon

    Brechin City October 2012 May 2015 116 50 26 40 43.10

    Darren Dods

    Brechin City 10 June 2015 Present 143 35 23 85 24.4

Dods stats being skewed by the promotion and disastrous year in the championship but still a terrible percentage win rate.

Is that all competitions? Irrespective, even if (being generous) you take out last season's league games completely, you're left with:

    P 107

    W 35

    D 19

    L 53

for a win percentage of less than 33% - still lower than any of the previous incumbents. That's including a season in which we won promotion.

Chris Smith is alright. Probably an upgrade on Grant Adam but I'm not sure he's good enough for League 1 - I wasn't all that upset when he left Stenhousemuir at the end of the season. He's a big unit and can command his area well, especially at crosses, and he's capable of pulling off extraordinary saves from time to time. However, his distribution can be poor and he's prone to making mistakes more often than he should - there were a few times last season where he cost us goals. Graeme Smith, our current #1, is a better goalie.

Sounds like G Smith is doing well? Was great for City for several seasons albeit was prone to a meltdown at least once a year - but then had a tough time last year in the championship although was far from alone in that. Felt as tho it was the right time for him to move on when he did although would always wish him the best. For me, when you get your nickname read out by the match announcer before the game as well as/instead of your real name, you're in danger of starting to believe your own hype (beware, Paul 'Pabs' McLean); is he getting that treatment yet or is that too soon?

The 200 or so that remain deserve better

We scored 3 away from home last week. Week off, give us a chance to get a few stragglers fit. Tough game away to EF, get a point then let Jacko etc loose against Montrose at home - what's not to like? I'm with big Ryan

Love comments from fans of higher league teams saying x player should 'run riot', most probably never watched a League 1 game in their puff. In my lifetime supporting Arbroath the only man I've ever seen actually 'run riot' in the same league as us is the man Shankland last season and FEB in a rampant Dunfermline. Goodwillie and McAllister have a habit of doing it too but not when we’ve been in same league.

No doubt he'll do well though, hopefully gives the broken Brechin fans some more excitement in their lives after all they've been through!!

Would Ryan Ferguson back on loan from Montrose be a plausible short term option? He's not likely to feature much there by the looks of it.

I would be surprised if Ryan Fergusons next club isn't a junior club tbh

I see that, but we're pretty desperate. We fielded four subs tonight including the spare keeper and Darren Dods himself, who had publicly retired in the close season but must have hastily re-registered himself. Ok we had a couple of suspensions, and now we're out of those troublesome cups for another season we'll have fewer games to play... but we're still down to the bare bones of a squad.

Appears we may be down to 12 outfield players for tonight:spin: they need to get some more bodies in :soapbox:

Or, latest on my list of 'unlikely but apparently available, and could be getting desperate' - Martin Woods, ex Ross County, Thistle and Doncaster? 32, prob still got a good season left in him at this level assuming he still wants it?

For once, just once I would like to see Dods come out and slate the players.

He can hardly do that after the first game. It's not as if he's not had time to prepare - it was clear that we were going down from about October last season so he should have been planning for the first game of this season pretty much since then.

it's his responsibility to build a team and get it working on the pitch, both tactically and motivationally.  If they can't beat a team that were 2 divisions below a year ago - facing 10 men for 45 minutes - on match day 1, having been planning for this day for nigh on 10 months, then piling into the players would be a pretty poor response

the obvious response to that is well, we're working with a very tight budget and we are still going to struggle to compete this season too. This was basically Darren's take in this week's Brechiner where he said (more or less) that he's aiming to be mid table at Xmas and then see what's possible from there. Plus, obviously he had a few players unavailable for selection today that would have been first picks otherwise. But fans have a right to ask what happened to the money earned last year from the Celtic game plus big crowds against Utd and St Mirren. Even if we had some rebalancing to do to get the accounts back in order, you have to wonder how similarly sized clubs like Forfar are able to bring in the likes of John Baird, i.e proven players at the level above, while we are struggling to compete against Stenny.

Having said all that.. I never saw the game so interested to hear more reviews from those that were there

  8. Niko Krancjar is without a club. Just saying.. but in all seriousness there must be creative midfielders out there looking for a contract if only the manager wasn't so fixated on defenders? What about the boy Nick Ross who played for Caley and Dundee? Was away to Romania briefly.. apparently finished there and no sign of a new club. In the right geography and must surely be hanging on for the right deal. Let's hope Darren has his targets in mind and is about to surprise us all

I have always been of the opinion that last season was a free season for all involved at Brechin. We have now lost more than half that team and brought in new signings that, to be honest, haven't  set the heather on fire so far. These are not bad players, and need time to blend.................. Dods is not the man to galvanise this team.

After last night, we are now in a position that things need sorted......and fast.

Dods now has to leave. There is very little or any positives to be taken from the way Dods has set this team out to play.....no width, very little outlet & threat up front and, HIS SUPPOSED STRENGTH defending..... there is no excuse for the way we give away goals.

Bring in someone to get the best out of the players we have NOW......... Before it is to late.

Nonsense to be getting rid of him at this point, sorry. Last year was appalling, and fans are entitled to deserve better - much better - for their continued support and purchase of season tickets after that. But, if he didn't get punted in the close season then it makes no sense to do so now. We've had two decent performances, followed by an aberration, in which I'm sure he'd say he missed a few guys from his first XI

lets not forget this manager saved us from certain relegation (against all odds) and then got us promoted (ditto).

having said that, the pressure has to be on for the league games. There are 5 til the first international break in early September, two against promoted teams. We should be setting a target of 10 points from those and then if we don't make that, I'd agree time to make a change before we get too deep into the season, setting up defensive and still losing. Thoughts??

  10. Seems plausible enough. Will be a project though, and as someone else said, presumably wouldn't need international clearance. Here's a wild stab: Farid el Alagui?? I read that he went back to France after leaving Edinburgh at the end of last season but he's only 32 and was with Dods at Falkirk when he was banging them in a few years back? Would fit the profile.
