  1. For me, i'm not convinced he's any better than any of the options we have in midfield, especially with Scott Martin here for the rest of the season. and there are question marks about his discipline for sure. For next year, I can see it making a bit more sense with Gav Bobby and Omar all the wrong side of 32, but I'd be reluctant to see us pay a fee.

DC has had more hits than misses though for sure.

I'd feel a lot better with another defender on the books.

  2. Swankie didn't contribute anything positive today. He seemed to be screaming at goldy to 'just do your f***in job' after goudie pulled him up for not tracking back. He made no effort at all defensively most of the game.

Total speculation, but I wonder if he's really gelling with the team. At one point today he was in acres of space on the edge of the box, Hester was crowded by three players, and Yule ignored Swanks and played it into Kane.

Id like to think we have a gear team spirit, but from what I've seen  he just doesn't look to be fitting in

Savour the expectation....there may be a bit of a reality check this Saturday. We've struggled against Queens in recent seasons - usually well organised, physical, competitive and defensive. Boring and frustrating games and often ending 0-1. We haven't enjoyed the best starts in recent seasons either..but last season shows that's not always critical. Let the real stuff commence

I mind a game about a year and a half ago, we lost 1-0 and it was exactly like this. Starting lineup was full of loan players (skelly and Henry who I think got sent off). Was one of the most frustrating expeiences at gayfield in a long time. We were mince, they were a pie. And they'd  had been sittin oot of the fridge for a fortnight.

    Rank.

  4. Enjoyed that.

Nervy first half, but what a crackin last 30 minutes. TOB was phenomenal, easily my MOTM despite denholms goals.

Gold did really well on the left, great strike for his goal too. Glad McCord got the full 90, as he needs it. Showed a few flashes of what he's capable of.

Omar is going to struggle for a game this year. Malin looked ok going forward, but was a bit worrying at times in that position. Hopefully we can get a good loan in to give us more cover at full back, as neither he or Jamie Henry are convincing enough.

Not much to say about Hutton - had nothing to do.

Thoughts prunts looked OK, great to see his wee pep talk to Denholm as he came on. Clearly worked! Glad he's in the squad as he seems to be great for morale.

And well done Danny! Looking forward to more of the same.

Dunno about the first game but all the names were on the team sheet last time too, just had a N/R next to them. Maybe whoever done them just forgot.

After slagging him just a few weeks ago he's been ok in the two friendlies. More of a midfielder though so probably covered there.

Aye thats what i meant. Last two games he was down as N/R with the rest of the lads. Might just be an oversight. He did not bad in right back against Aberdeen, so wouldnt be a terrible idea.

Fucking hell, two friendlies in ffs and won them both. Says more about Arbroath that they couldn't hold on to their lead.

If we'd been playing Lothian Hutchison Vale, took 80 minutes to score and only did so when they had 4 trialists and arguably 3 of the first 11, I'd be ragin.

  7. Nail on the head with these posts.

Henry was lucky to stay on with his challenge. It was right in front of me and looked awful. In a competitive game he'd have walked. What was up O'Dea's arse!?

Yule looks fantastic on the ball, and that's been against top flight sides. More than held his own up against Scott Allan second half.

Better shift from Swankie today. Doris excellent again. Good work from Hester too.

If I'm a Dundee fan, I'm VERY worried.

    See ye's next season!

Also I thought Gold was very good Lichtyear. He was under a lot of pressure with some fantastic switched passes from McLean at times but he done away fine.

He did well in the second half in mid, but he kept getting caught too high in the first half and he couldn't match Storey for pace or physicality.

  9. Second half

Arbroath 1 (Hester) - 3 Aberdeen (Rooney, Stewart, Stockley)

Foot off the gas for Aberdeen. Stockley goal was inevitable with only one defender over 5' 10". Few decent chances.

Gold moved to CM with Henry at RB. Slight improvement. Henry looked ok, but nothing special. Gold did better than he did first half.

Skelly worked hard, but little reward. Seemed wound up. Some good runs and work from Hester, who really deserves his goal. Offer something different up top and showed a few flashes of quality. More from Denholm this half, possibly due to being moved out wider after Linn came off.

Nothing on note to speak of from any of the other trialists.

On the whole, the lads worked hard - a decent performance and an inevitable result against the second best team in the country.

TOB, Yule and Doris stood out. Really like the look of Yule.

Incidentally Sean Dillon was here, and wearing the worst pair of shoes I've ever seen. Dodged a bullet on that one!

  10. First half thoughts

    Arbroath 0 - 2 Aberdeen (Rooney, Stewart)

Goes without saying that Aberdeen are a different class, still we've looked ok but no clear chances.

TOB has looked good so far, and Blair Yule has been excellent on the ball although his end product has been seriously lacking.

Not much happening from Swanks or Denholm, but maybe understandable considering opposition. Goldie really out of his depth tonight sadly.

Seems to be a few communication issues with Linn and Hammy on the left. Doris doing a great job of holding ball up ask always, but no one really running on.

Miles Story and Ryan Christie have been excellent for Aberdeen.

If we get anything, it'll likely be a set piece. I can see us shipping a few late on when conditioning becomes a factor.

    Hiya lads, mind me butting in for a sec;

He was released by Elgin at the end of last season having started 14 league matches and being substituted on 13 times; was he any good when at Gayfield?

Agree with previous posters. Always looked solid. Scored an absolute brammer at Easter Road for us as well

  12. Two sides to the Swankie coin. He's obviously more experienced at a higher level than a lot of the boys, but he's obviously a well known petulant wee shite. If DC is confident he can manage him, then he could be an asset. I'd like to think our dressing room is strong enough that he wouldn't be able to influence them negatively, and if he did I'd hope he would get weeded out.

would only take him as backup, and for a fraction of his last contract
