    I don't disagree in terms of his recent form but the cynics among us would probably look at the fact that this return to form has come off the back of him being binned out the starting XI for Scotland and Clarke telling him that if he wants to be involved at the Euros he'd need to be playing (and presumably by extension, playing well).

    The counter of course is that by the point he picked up his "injury" we'd won 1 (ONE) of our previous 14 and without him in the side our form actually picked up. We won 4 of our next 9 with one draw without him in the starting line up albeit with 3 complete doings in that run of games to boot.

    I'm clearly not as unkind as to put that entirely at his doorstep but I don't think it's in any way a given that we'd have gone to Rugby Park and Easter Road and kept clean sheets with him starting.

    There's a lot in what you say re pre ' injury' Dec stats but in all fairness we all need to remember who he had to nurse through games i.e. the then bombs scare Mugabi and the let's say ' work in progress' Lamie!!

    Even a prime time Costacurta or Baresi would have had his work cut out to impress .

    As above good last season and poor this, the paper talk has only made things worse and I think many well fans have just ran out of patience with him. Bit of a joker with a good few mistakes in him mixed with some excellent performances, not a leader. In truth I won’t really miss him, we’ve had far better in the last four or five years. He would certainly, be a solid signing and the Aberdeen support should find him ok as long as they don’t have huge expectations.

    I'm probably in minority as ( paper stuff aside which btw unless I missed it was never confirmed) I feel he did well this season.

    It ain't no coincidence ( and CPT Oates alludes to this) that Dec's  return to the team some weeks back has seen our performances improve and contributed to our impressive clean sheet record .

    Aberdeen are getting an accomplished player whose strengths lie in his composure, game reading and distribution.

    His main weakness is his lack of pace but his strengths outweigh this.

    Wouldn't play him as a Captain though as I don't think he is cut out for this.

    I think this is kind of it. I totally get what they're doing and why they're done it. The 'strategy' so to speak is to give an 'authentic' representation of the season.

    It's about the 'highs and lows' and other cliches. Essentially the logic is that if you're only leaning into the good stuff then you're not being true to yourself. That's.....fine? As an idea it makes total sense when it's stuck up on an ideas board or if you're on a sports marketing podcast explaining what you're trying to do and talking about it as a 'Big Idea' and it's something that totally works in a season like our 3rd* place finish but this season it's been a slog and ultimately if you're sticking to the same schedule and socials plan on a match day and following the same format then it just kind of dissipates.

    I think where it becomes problematic is for example, the feeling that you're not talking to Allan Campbell or whoever on the final whistle because he's got something to say, you're doing it because you're ticking a box on the content plan because that's what you do. What seemed 'fresh' 18 months ago feels less so now purely as a result of having done it every fucking week win or lose over two seasons and subsequently in an empty stadium.

    It's a fine (and difficult) balance to do stuff that will engage your own fanbase but also appeal to enough users to grow your #numbers so I'm wary of sounding like I'm taking shots at the media team. Also, the fact that I've literally been sat in a Social Media/Digital Strategy meeting for my own work for the last hour and a half means I empathise with what they're trying to do.

    I'm broadly in the same camp as @Neil86 in so much as I think the ideas and the #content the socials channels put out is v.good and tbh it's better than it should be quality-wise given the size of the team.

    Like most it's the foot-in-mouth tone that's been grinding my gears recently...I mean, pumped 4-1 by a side at the bottom of the league, without a win in 10 and we're popping up with 'A clear lesson to learn'? No fucking shit lads.

    Did no one take pause to think 'how does this actually come across' before hitting the 'tweet' button? Same with the Ricki Lamie = a brick wall post on IG...I mean really? No one thought 'Hmmm, the bold Ricki's had a few decent games recently but maybe we'll just dial that one back a bit."?

    Also, Hey! Turns out this is my 8000th post. Time well spent I think we'll all agree.

    Congratulations Cpt. Don't always agree with you but you never fail to make interesting comments.

    Crawford is the glue in our side at the moment.  And if people think we're losing Campbell and then still want to bin Crawford then wow.

    Can understand what Martindale means about his "chasing" though, he suffered from that early with us but seems to have become a lot more disciplined recently.

    What's Forrest's contract scenario? 🤔

    Forrest replaced Lawless at Livi when he went to Burton Albion. Martindale added that if anyone is to get the best out of Lawless it's important he is played on right wing.

    I'd be surprised if Crawford wasn't offered an extra year tbh.

    He's started most of Alexander's 12 games and I don't think it's a stretch to say he's been a better option in midfield than O'Hara. That's not to say I'd be building my midfield around him but from looking at the teams Alexander has been putting out it's pretty clear who he 'trusts' and who he doesn't - I'd say Crawford's the former at the moment.

    Crawford's made 17 league appearances for us this season - 10 of them have been starts in Alexander's 12 games and interestingly he was an unused sub on the bench for the Accies game (of his 5 starts under Robinson we only lost 2, didn't win any but we drew with St Johnstone, Aberdeen & United).

    @crazylegsjoe_mfc's 'clean slate' point is a good one. While there's clearly going to be a massive churn in the summer it's probably counter-productive in the current climate to be cutting loose players who could 'do a job' with no guarantee that those you bring in are going to offer much more - especially when it's fairly obvious that we're going to be losing a raft of 'key' players.

    I'm also in agreement that there's probably a question mark over a couple of the contracted players like McGinley who I think has shown in fits and starts that he's a useful player (specifically his appearance against Hibs) but circumstances outside anyone's control seem to have made this a bit of a tough move for him.

    Living in Livi and often speaking to Martindale it's interesting that he says Crawford was very unlucky at Livi because he was replaced by the slightly more effective ex Hearts player Holt who impressed on a trial. Martindale was nevertheless full of praise for Crawford saying his only fault was that he tended to " chase the game too much"  rather than being patient.

    Meanwhile, Livi fans without exception feel Crawford was never given a chance at Livi. They wish him well at FP.

    As an aside Martindale was less praiseworthy of Lawless believing that his best days were behind him and that Alan Forrest was the better of the 2.

    Nah, I think the question is Gallagher or Magloire solely on the basis that Lamie's naturally left sided whereas the two of them are right sided.

    I mean instinctively it'd be Gallagher but there's no getting away from the fact that he's been dugmeat all season and him doing his best Shane Duffy for County's goal in Dingwall is still pretty fresh in the memory.

    C' Mon Captain You're better than that. Dugmeat????

    Yes, not as good as last season but still miles ahead of anyone else we've had to play in central defence.

    Also, in addition to his Captain duties he has had to  regularly ' nurse' Lamie and Bevis through their --- if I'm being kind---erratic periods whilst often not having a reliable left back or for a period a competent right back.

    I mean, he didn't get sent off, concede a penalty and wasn't at fault for any of the goals...so thats something.

    Tbh, I'd have thought O'Donnell would be straight back in.

    If as some would have us believe that only SOD will be back for Wednesday I think there's a strong chance that Max will remain at RB ( I thought he did ok all things considered) and that SOD will replace either Baresi or Maldini ( I meanTyler or Lamie).

    Other option is Mc Ginley at LCB as this according to Robbo is his preferred position.

    I'm with you. From 15 minutes onwards the entire momentum is with the Accies whilst we are facing upstream without a paddle.

    Put another way, we gave ourselves no chance to salvage the game.

    Still doesn't fully exonerate our slow start, bad marking at first goal and SOD's brain fart but let's try and see the game in the round.

    Next Saturday will be a better indicator albeit in addition to SOD we look to be without Mugabi ( dislocated shoulder?) and perhaps Gallagher.

    Step forward Tyler, Mc Ginley or the rarely spotted Malone!!

    He's that rarely spotted I got Nolan's name wrong.Doh!!

    Yesterday saw a soft early goal but it was the sending off that killed us and after that the game plan is gone, a bit like our chances against Aberdeen.  I will assess our next performance where we keep 11 on the park as a better judgement of our progress, but what will our defence look like next week?

    Crikey - as recently as the late 1980’s 😉

    Funnily enough after the main concern being we finish in one of the bottom two places this one is only secondary to that ! Especially as Goodwin is suddenly Guardiola and has become a bit of an arrogant twat in his after match interviews.

    Win on Saturday and can focus on catching the mighty Paisley buddies and get them below us where history dictates they belong 👍

    Disagree re your slur on Goodwin.

    Check out his post match comments after Buddies loss to Livi in semi. Despite certain key decisions going against his team he chose more to give Livi credit and to wish them well in the final.

    He's done likewise with Motherwell praising them highly and seeing us as a benchmark for his team to aspire to.

    As for his tactical nous I would agree with a lot of the ' experts' that he knows his stuff.

  11. Overjoyed with the win in a game that not long ago we would have lost.

    Our strike force is rapidly improving ( Cole Wow)  although Smith is showing early signs of Fisher/ White syndrome!! Still bags of time to impress though .

    Kelly is proving an able deputy for TC. SOD and Jake both steady as usual.

    Bevis although getting better still gives me the heebie jeebies as seen by losing his man at United's goal. Lamie-- best I can say is that I've seen him play worse. I fully expect Nolan ( or perhaps Tyler) to replace him sooner than later. Hope Dec returns quickly too.

    Campbell back to something like his old self. Crawford did well but faded.

    Now Maguire!!. Yup I'm in a minority but I really don't get the 'love in ' with him. Yes, no one can't fault his effort and desire to do his best but to me he is seriously limited re guile and craft. Add to that as witnessed tonight he is regularly dispossessed , guilty of misplaced passes and set pieces often going astray. Fully expect  O'Hara or even Foley to replace him when up to speed.

    All in all its great to get the win and certainly grounds for encouragement.

    As far as I'm aware we can bounce folk out on loan to the Championship and below all through February. Folk like Semple have been training at the club through the season anyway so I'd think Alexander would be able to have had a look at all of them. Loaning Semple to a team at the other end of the country in a fucking pandemic seems fucking daft in hindsight.

    From that squad you could easily imagine Semple, Cornelius, Devine, MacIver, Devine (and Hussain) all being loaned out once the lower leagues start up again.

    In terms of winners and losers this window I don't know if there are many of the former but bringing in 2 wingers and a couple of centre backs doesn't seem like a vote of confidence for Seedorf, Hastie and Lamie (or McGinley to a lesser extent).

    Overall though while I'd imagine folk are quite underwhelmed by the names:

    Kelly = upgrade on Chapman
    Lawleff = upgrade on Seedorf/Hastie
    Smith = not Jordan White
    Foley  = our only real cover in midfield had been Maguire and Cornelius
    Roberts = not Seedorf/Hastie
    Nolan = not Ricki Lamie

    If Magloire ends up signing then yeah, "also not Ricki Lamie".

    Either way this window has definitely been an admission that we absolutely fucked it in the summer.

    However underwhelming the ' window' may have been I do feel it's important to remember a few things;

    * Retained Dec, SOD and Campbell.

    * Guys signed are upgrades on what was at the club.

    * These guys are only here until May as per loans.

    * We have several players injured . Their positions needed covered.

    * Most importantly, these signings are all geared towards securing our safety.

    Set in this context I'm satisfied.

    Also, give the guys a chance
