  1. In my book Bo’ness Juniors have shown on the park that they are a viable football club. If they can demonstrate to the EOSFL that they meet the ground criteria and the general requirements of  the league there should really be no issue in accepting the club. I am not sure whether the club membership would perceive a rivalry or falling out with a Lowland League club as a defining issue.

Not how things actually work on that last bit. The leagues involved in the SFA's pyramid have retained the right to determine who they accept into membership through application and a democratic majority vote of the existing members. The EoS membership is therefore perfectly within its rights to decide that a club that has behaved as deceitfully as Bo'ness United Juniors have vis-a-vis the real Bo'ness United would not be a positive addition to their league and should be told to GTF.

I know these issues are very emotive but I suppose they do heal with time. My own solution would be for Bo’ness United Juniors (or whatever title) to become the Senior section of Bo’ness Cadora AFC. There would be a certain historical poignancy to see the Cadora name being fielded again at a higher level. It would also perhaps cement the position of the club as a contributor rather than a competitor to the Lowland League club’s great heritage.

It amounts to gossip because it hasn't actually happened yet and it's still to go to a vote on membership. At the moment new applicants are still being assessed against the existing criteria (which is why it's there) and it's only intended to be a new standalone division for new applicants next year due to the commitment not to disadvantage the original 67. After next year they would be integrated as normal into the WoSFL.

The Intermediate Division or linking up with amateur leagues isn't about this year but ideas for down the road.

If a WOSFL league official says there has been 17 “expressions of interest” I would have thought he is expressing a fact. But there is a long way to go before an expression of interest germinates into a successful application endorsed by the membership.

Gossip is when someone says Cupar Hearts are applying to the EOSFL but no evidence has yet to emerge. Fingers crossed that an application is submitted.

A club applies and is either accepted or rejected. What have the WoS done that the EoS aren't doing with regards to new clubs, can you provide examples?

You're forming opinion based on gossip on a forum. Be grateful the WoS and EoS are attracting new clubs, potentially over 20 between them for next season.

We will see what unfolds over the next month or so and whether the WOSFL have enough clubs to form a sort of Intermediate Division. Why Harthill would wish to play in a division that would be destined to become Tier Ten I am not sure. Hopefully someone from Harthill will explain.  We will also see how the EOSFL copes with the latest influx of applications.

The transparency of Parkcircus, a key official with the WOSFL, is not mere gossip and we have been able to get a glimpse of current issues in the WOS. Information provided has then been confirmed in podcasts etc. How things/structures will pan out remains to be seen.

I am truly grateful to both the WOSFL and EOSFL regarding the numerous clubs that are being accepted into the Senior fold - potentially more than 20 this time around. Like a number of others on here it is very difficult at the moment not to take my eyes off P&B to watch the latest changes in our real-life football drama in our covid closeted world.

  5. The deadline for applications to join the WOSFL for the 2021/22 season is 31st March 2021. To date there have been 17 expressions of interest, the majority of which appear to be Amateur clubs. There may be the possibility of establishing a new division.

If you are interested enquire here:

NB: It is possible that ground entry requirements will be relaxed for new applicants in an Intermediate Division.

How on earth do you come to that ridiculous conclusion?

Bo'ness Juniors or whatever they are called will be accepted as long as they tick the boxes.  It's not upto the league to judge whether two teams in Bo'ness is a good idea or not.

What measures are the EOSFL taking to assimilate progressive Amateur clubs or Youth set-ups whose facilities are currently not up to scratch but can be developed with a little time? In contrast the WOSFL appear to be on the crux of catering for such clubs - perhaps by establishing revised ground criteria for the lowest tier. We will see what unfolds in the next few weeks.

EOSFL could do the same which would provide a window of opportunity for ambitious Amateur clubs in the Borders, Fife etc.

  8. This article gives the latest position:

Sure to be left feeling more disappointed than most are ambitious trio  Clydebank, Darvel and Irvine Meadow whose outstanding `off the pitch ` achievements in gaining  SFA Licensing approval will  now become  devalued by the loss of eligibility to take part in the Lowland League play-offs that would have been a given had any of them been crowned eventual Premier Division Champions.

A sore one without doubt, however it has to be said all three clubs will not go unrewarded for their unstinting infrastructure improvements of the past twelve months, not least of all financially, in light of their new licensed status bringing automatic entry into next season’s lucrative Scottish Cup proper.

Yet neither can it be denied that future step-up aspirations are about to come up against considerably stiffer competition should the similarly determined likes of Kilwinning Rangers, Rob Roy, Rutherglen Glencairn , Cumnock and Auchinleck Talbot achieve SFA approval.

Fixture Secretary Kennie Young makes an appearance just after the decision to null & void was made. Nothing really new just another confirmation on what the WoSFL committee's plans seem to be.

Hoping to start early because of the 38 game Premier and cups, plus clubs probably wanting to get back to it. Mentions the 17 notes of interest that has since been trimmed with the WoS/EoS boundary decision. Harthill being the only exception in being able to apply.

Looking to keep the original 67 in Premier & 3 Conferences with the new applicant clubs making a new division underneath if the numbers are there. Which would go to setting up Premier,1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Divisions in 2022-23.

Here are adjusted listings of clubs which have expressed an intention or are considering, apparently, applying to join the EoS for 2021/22 season. However, clubs can change their minds and it’s the EoS which will decide who gets in for next season. (I have noted the source of the information in brackets after the clubs names.)

Tayside’s Chairman was open about preferring to stick with the ERJFS North clubs if possible. I have  taken the word of Whitburn Vale and leomessi1984 at face value and included Armadale Thistle, Sauchie CFC and Cupar Hearts. From what I have seen in the media the Bo’ness United Junior CFC club looks determined to join the EoS so they’re included too. Forfar West End are included even though they are north of the infamous Tay Bridge line.

Other possible applicants are listed but possible is the word as no-one knows if any of these will actually apply or would even consider applying for 2021/22.

    Clubs Applying/Considering Applying for 2021/22: (13)

    Armadale Thistle (Whitburn Vale)

    Bathgate Thistle (Club)

Bo'ness Junior CFC (Club - Considering)

    Cupar Hearts (leomessi1984)

    Forfar West End (Club)

    Letham AFC (Club)

    Livingston United (Club)

    Pumpherston Juniors (Club)

    Sauchie CFC (Whitburn Vale)

    Syngenta (Club)

    Tayport (Club - Considering)

    West Calder United Club)

    Whitburn Juniors (Club)

Clubs which could possibly apply from the current SJFA East Region South and North Divisions:

    South:

Fauldhouse United,  Harthill Royal (Whitburn Vale - to WoS) and Stoneyburn Juniors.

    North:

Arbroath Victoria, Blairgowrie, Brechin Victoria, Broughty Athletic, Carnoustie Panmure, Coupar Angus, Downfield Juniors, Dundee East Craigie, Dundee North End, Dundee Violet, Forfar United, Kirriemuir Thistle, Lochee Harp, Lochee United and Scone Thistle.

Bo’ness Junior CFC application has been lodged:

“They informed us via email on – I think it was Sunday or Monday night – that they are going ahead with an application to join the East of Scotland League which hasn’t gone down very well,” Muirhead told the Journal and Gazette.

Armadale Thistle and Sauchie community have now applied for the EoSFL for 21/22...

Is it Sauchie Community or another title? When they were applying to the Juniors I recall Dunblane Soccer Club being mentioned. It will be interesting to see what they”morph” into this time. The title of the club may influence the success of the application to join the EOSFL.

  12. West Calder Juniors Facebook - just an update

“Well it's now the end of an era for the club, due to the covid restrictions the SJFA was left with no other option but to declare the league null and void which now brings over 70years as a junior club to an end. We now look forward to gaining membership at a senior level of the East of Scotland football league, onwards and upwards,at this point we would like to thank the SJFA for their support over the years”.

No but there are still valid concerns on the cost of travel at such a low level of senior football often played in front of 50 fans or less. I hear one or two borders clubs have voiced concerns about the possible inclusion of Forfar West End, buses aren't cheap, nor is petrol money, plus it takes up your whole day. Not so much concern for one game per season, but how many may follow from Tayside.

Not really a problem if the bottom tier is regionalised. We need to build pyramids at the lowest levels not towers.

No idea alan, seems the squad is split on it..

Armadale are very close to the Harthill guys and they hav been talking to one another constantly over this.

Both clubs biggest gripe is TRAVEL,

Even when I mentioned to the Harthill guy about travelling to the likes of Dalmellington,Girvan or Kello,he still harped on about potential trips to Coldstream,Berwick Eyemouth or Hawick.

He also said the potential threat of any Tayside involvement in the EoSFL was the tipping point and moving West was a no brainer for HRFC.

The Armadale player reiterated the same point..

When Oban Saints (and their Argyll friends) join the WOSFL the travelling scenario for Harthill will be truly turned on its head

    Harthill to Oban - 2 hr 33 min (117.7 mi) via M8, A82 and A85

Harthill to Berwick will become a "walk in the park" at 1 hr 29 min (81.2 mi) via A1

The WOSFL is going to grow!  Some 17 expressions of interest at the last count.

This seems exactly right to me.

It’s often mentioned that fans are the most important part of a club and, if not them, then players - but what about the committees who, for the most part, are merely fans who have stepped up and volunteered countless unpaid hours to facilitate the games that those fans watch and that those players play in?

To expect these folks to work tirelessly behind the scenes to put on two and perhaps three games a week to squeeze in half a season when there will still be no fans to witness it, when many of those games will be entirely meaningless and when, in all likelihood, all COVID protocols will still have to be enacted is not realistic in any way when their families will need to come first when lockdown restrictions are lifted.

Some of the language used in an earlier post against the null and void option, eminently sensible imho when set against what is outlined above, is pretty much out of order and helps absolutely no one.

Agreed. I am very sad that we are not able to complete the 2020/21 season or get anywhere near the half way point. Truly gutted.

I think we need to accept the fact that this season has been prematurely terminated and keep the same format for 2021/22 with the 18 teams in the Premier Division. The First Division should be reformatted into three conferences with the addition of the new applicants. One promotion place for each of the conferences with five clubs relegated from the Premier Division. The other top clubs in the Conferences will play in the new First Division in 2022/23 so plenty to play for and to look forward to.

I think the sensible option would be to start the 2021/22 season in early July and see if we can beat this dreadful pandemic this time around. An early start should ensure that if there is an enforced  break at some time in the new season it will not destroy the whole campaign.

It is hard to come to terms with termination of our season and its consequences but much harder to accept the loss of family, friends or associates to this dreadful pandemic.

No firm commitment disclosed but likely Bo’ness Juniors will apply to EoS - seems to have went down quite positively with the locals after the local press covered the story

Any news whether Linlithgow Rose Community (renamed) are likely to submit a application to the EOSFL after going into abeyance for the curtailed season. Or are they candidates to return to Amateur football?

In what has so far been the only Lowland League Pyramid Play-off, Kelty Hearts beat Threave Rovers 0-4 away and 6-0 at home. Thing is they played each other in the SCC that year and Threave Rovers got a 2-2 at Kelty with Threave winning on penalties. With the 3 team format the SoS Champion will never be dominate, but has a chance to be a bit of a spoiler as they're 2 one off games for them.

The South out of the 3 leagues will also get stronger at the top if Dalbeattie and Gretna do end up there. For that to happen it means that the West and East will have lost some of their top teams.

There's going to come a change at some point within the league structures. Right now, especially because of COVID, working out where the South belongs isn't a priority.

There would be some benefits in creating a four team promotion / relegation play-off incorporating the EOSFL, WOSFL, SOSFL champions along with the last but one placed team in the LL.

Clubs would play for two LL places / reduced to one if an extra team is allocated to the LL following the LL /HL / L2 play-off.

Such a move would soften the blow of potentially two clubs being relegated from the LL each season, giving the last but one club a realistic opportunity save themselves and prove that they are worthy of a place in the LL.

If we look at what happened at Step 7 down south, these are the sort of parameters that could be established (obviously with some strengthening):

This is an example of a Step 7 league down South that uses slightly tougher ground grading requirements. Perhaps food for thought if the WOSFL are considering staggering the entry requirements for Amateur and Youth sides:
